SUPER BOWL WEEKEND

Before we begin, this is well worth repeating: David Paulus was a career public servant. He bravely battled brain cancer for the last few years, and that battle was expensive. Mr. Paulus leaves his wife and three children. There is a Paulus Family trust which you can donate to: Make your check out to the  David Paulus Family Trust: and mail the check to : David Kahn, Esq. at Green & Kahn,
317 71st St., Miami Beach, FL 33141.

Here's what you do: On Friday or Saturday night skip that night out at Capital Grille or The Palm or Mortons, and mail a check for $250.00 or whatever you can afford. Then check out last weeks post and go to one of the pizza joints and get a pie and a six pack and sit at home and eat some pizza and drink some beer and feel great about doing a really good deed.

The Captain Reports:

Welcome back Judge Glick .....

That's Lenny Glick by the way as he will be sitting in for Judge Colodny who will be on an extended leave from the bench.

Great seeing you Judge.

Super Bowl: There is one more football game to be played this Sunday. A few facts: If they win, the Giants will be the first 9-7 team to win the super bowl (The Cardinals advanced to the super bowl as a 9-7 team a few years ago, but lost in the last minute.) The Giants will also be the first team to win a super bowl that gave up more points then they scored in the season (-6 for the year).   This will be a close game but we look for some surprises. The cheaters could come out....running?? Meanwhile the Giants defense which beat and battered Brady into submission a few years ago is expected to blitz often. Just don't be surprised if they drop 8-9 into coverage and try and force Brady into making some mistakes.

More on the game this weekend.

How are the new judges doing? Are they finding their home room ok? Are they getting along with each other at lunch?

Here's the thing with Mitt: He just can't help himself. Every time he gets  a big win, he puts his foot in his mouth.

See You In Court.

Coming Saturday: WWMS? (what would Mitt Say?)

Why would brain cancer be expensive. We are a civilized nation, didn't the National Health Service care for this poor man?

The Captain Predicts:

Best Super Bowl 46 Prop Bet ....

It happened on December 28, 1958, at Yankee Stadium. On that day, the greatest game ever played took place between the Baltimore Colts and the New York Football Giants. The game included 17 players that would later make it to the Hall of Fame. Raymond Berry caught 12 passes in the game, a record that stands to this day.

But what made the game one for the ages is what happened at the end of the game. You see, with the Colts trailing 17-14, and with two minutes to play, Johnny Unitas took the ball and led his team from their own 14 yard line to the Giants 13. With seven seconds left, they kicked a 20 yard field goal to tie the score at 17. That drive, still considered one of the greatest in NFL history, was the first time the term "two minute drill" would be used. The score was tied and the teams would play in the first ever OVERTIME CHAMPIONSHIP game in NFL history.

After the Giants won the coin toss and received the kickoff, they went three and out. The Colts took over on their own 20 and Unitas drove the Colts to the Giants one. Alan Ameche took the handoff and carried the ball across the goal and into NFL lore as the Colts won the first and only NFL OVERTIME game 23-17.

The first NFL champion was crowned in 1920, which is 92 years ago. This is Super Bowl 46 and the odds say that there should be one overtime game every 46 years.

So, the prop bet is - put all of your money on the prop that the game will go into Overtime.

And send some of your winnings to the David Paulus Fund.

Enjoy the game.

The person who wrote in to congratulate a judge for an event in her life will not see the comment. It is a well intentioned comment. But it is a comment about the judge's personal life and I have no idea whether or not that judge wants that event publicized so I will not post it. Sorry, but the road to hell is often paved with good intentions.

The State of the Shumie which was originally set for Thursday night but was canceled, has been re-set at Caribbean Cigars for Saturday night. Just head west on Bird road and stop right before the Everglades when you see the big gator with the cigar in his mouth. as the rules require, the address will be given before Super Bowl sunday, but unlike the famous incident in 2008 it will not start at 11:59 pm. Show up around 8 and grab a cigar and party with the shumie cigar girls.

I don't like anyone. I am smarter than everyone. I don't care. If you get to know me I can be a great friend, but I won't let anyone know me. I am smarter than you and a better lawyer than you.

Let's see...what else...oh yeah

The Steelers should be in the Super Bowl. They are better than the Giants or the Patriots.

Get away from me. You bother me. I

Two Items of Interest from AP

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico -- Every one of the 2,500 police officers in this Mexican border city has been ordered to leave home and stay in a hotel after the killing of five officers by a local drug cartel.

The gang threatened a week ago to kill one policeman a day unless Police Chief Julian Leyzaola resigns

and closer to Home

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- An appellate court says 911 operators can record incoming emergency calls and call-backs to the same number but cannot record outgoing calls to other numbers without consent.

The First District Court of Appeal ruled Thursday in a case reversing an Escambia County man's aggravated assault conviction.

A mother had called 911 to report a disturbance at her daughter's house next door. The operator then called the daughter and the call was recorded. The man could be heard threatening to shoot everyone in the house.

The court decided the call could not be used against him. Florida law requires his consent before the outgoing call was recorded even though it related to another emergency call.

The case is Perdue v. State of Florida, No. 1D10-5496

Hey Rump, The Captain says bet the prop bet for OT. What do you think about that advice?

Here are the odds:

Will the game go to overtime?

Yes (+650)
No (-1200)

I'm thinking game will end 30-27, Gints. Could happen in OT

( please don't stomp me down BT. I promise I won't ever post again. )

Uhho...you my friend have no idea of the kind of hurt you're about to bring down on you. It will make the beat down BT put on you look like a date with your girlfriend at a Barry Manalow concert where all he sings is Mandy.

To quote my friend Phil's favorite movie-Oceans Eleven- "Reuben: This sorta thing used to be civilized, you'd hit a guy, he'd whack you, done. But with Phil....at the end of this, he'd BETTER not know you're involved, not know your names or think you're dead because he'll kill ya, and then he'll go to work on ya. "

Really my friend, go Google the phrase "you've bit off way more than you can chew" then go erase your post and go hide under your couch for the rest of the weekend. Don't open the door, don't answer the phone, don't check your emails. Good luck and via con dios.

Tally Ho from AP n The Herald"

1. Your Citizens Homeowers Payments are going up. Florida’s mammoth state-run insurance company is looking to downsize, with lawmakers turning to unregulated out-of-state carriers to help with the effort.
The state House passed a bill on Friday that would allow so-called “surplus lines” carriers to take over policies from Citizens Property Insurance Corp

2.A proposal to ban state lawmakers from influencing bills that could earn or cost them money is pushed aside for the fifth consecutive year. Senate President Mike Haridopolos assigned the ethics bill to five different committees. IT would prevent senators from proposing, participating or voting on bills that could provide special, private benefit for themselves, their families, their employers or their colleagues.

3, State Employees ( ASAs APDs AGAs Judges Clerks) lucked out on Health Insurance , the proposal that would have increased cost at least $100 a` month or more died. While the budget does calls for layoffs and prison closings, it keeps intact a perk for thousands of state employees who pay very little for health insurance. House members agreed to keep state employee health insurance premiums at their current levels even though the cost for state is expected to go up by nearly $50 million

4. Insurance vs Doctors : They are still fighting on the 411-PAIN bill, trying to both reduce PIP fraud is the primary goal, but also trying not to penalize people who file legitimate claims and receive treatment from reputable healthcare professionals. .

and finally:

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. -- Inmates in one southwest Florida county picked 6,400 pounds of free oranges for their jail and local homeless shelters.

The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office said Friday that jail inmates were allowed to pick oranges for free for two days from the Peace River Plantation in Punta Gorda. Grove owners Waldemar and Henny Bokrand extended the offer.

The 6,400 pounds will help feed other inmates in the jail and some will be donated to the local homeless coalition.

Last year, inmates picked 10,000 pounds of oranges from the plantation for a food bank in Fort Myer
