TUESDAY MORNING HEADLINES

(for those smart and educated readers who disdain CNN and the NY Times and get their news here;
For those of you tuning in for Judge Hernandez: The Movie, we will get to it as soon as we can.)

CASTRO STILL ILL

CHANNEL 7 CANCELS ALL PROGRAMMING.

CALLE OCHO ERUPTS IN CHANNEL 7 SPONSORED “SPONTANEOUS” CELEBRATION.

ON A SERIOUS NOTE:

Maybe it’s time to back things down on the blog a bit and have a serious discussion on what the death of Fidel Castro will mean to our fair city.

Lawyers should write in with memories about working in the REGJB during the Mariel Boat Lift. Who remembers going into the building with the National Guard outside?

How has the Cuban diaspora (8:22 ASA-did we spell and use that word correctly?) changed Miami?

Was Miami changed for the better, or worse?

When Cuba does open up, what business opportunities will exist for attorneys in Miami?

Will Judge Farina open a Havana Branch Court?

Will those attorneys banned by Brummer be allowed to travel to Cuba?

Can you get a good cup of Café Cubano in Cuba these days?
How about Cuban toast?

How many Cuban/American attorneys would consider going to Cuba to live and work?

Will Castro's illness effect the upcoming judicial elections? What candidates will seek to capture the renewed anti-Castro feelings that are running through the streets of Miami?

One thing is for sure: The death of Castro will inexorably affect our fair City as much as, if not more, then the Cuban Revolution.

Interesting times await us all.

Read all about it here, on the pages of your favourite Miami legal Blog.

This Just In: Jeffrey Swartz has announced his intention to run for the job currently being held by Raul Castro "on the off chance my friend Raul becomes the president of cuba. If that does not happen I will withdraw my candidacy."

Anonymous said...

The law offices of Bobby Reiff announces a DUI Center in Havana to open shortly.

Anonymous said...

I am tired of incorrect and stupid rumors on this blog - Swartz did not file to run against Raul Castro - because that is not an elected position - Jeb Bush is making the appointment after getting advice from Hector and John Rivera.

I hear it will be a civil lawyer with heavy republican ties.

Rumpole, on Hernandez, I think you should call Libre and speak to the Editor for the real details as he has always placed pictures with contact information in the past without asking for permission. Ask previous candidates. I mean, if Hernandez is in vilation, then Faber seems to be endorsed by the Supreme Court, President Bush and other candidates as per the website we are not suppose to see. I say, clarify this or also get on Faber for his lack of morals for allowing that site to go on for this long.

Anonymous said...

Those voting for Hernandez will receive on election day a T Shirt to wear to the polls that says "Part of the Problem"

Poor poor Hector, so miss understood. Doesn't everyone understand. All he wants is a balanced and representative group of judges. What some view as heavy handed tactics he views as a means to a just end. Hector should be nominated for sainthood. Emmm....Let's see...San Hector...wow that sounds great!

lets all pray for the quick recovery for fidel.

Anonymous said...

Are you fucking kidding me?

Anonymous said...

yes, he is, and he was looking for that exact response.

Anonymous said...

George Alvarez you better not mortgage your house cause you are going down to defeat!

Anonymous said...

That is Jeb Bush who wants him to go down (don't ask why b/c I still don't get it) but with the recent fervor of hispanic pride (with fidel's upcoming death) you can be assured that all Hispanics will make sure to vote FOR ALVAREZ!!!

Anonymous said...

I want to hear more about the candidates and people out on the streets celebrating the news of Fidel- what happened? Who was there? And how is the Hispanic community reacting to these candidates?

Anonymous said...

Hispanics should all vote for hispanics and Cubans should all vote for Cubans, George and Fidel for County Court Judge!

Anonymous said...

How can a brother make a dollar on immigrant smuggling cases if Cuba becomes free? That will certainly put a dent in the coffers....

Anonymous said...

Castro was a decent President for the Cuban people. Leave the guy alone and wish him well in his recovery. He's just an old guy at this point.

Anonymous said...

Where is Brummer sleepy time pic? Not on the Fake Brummer site. We demand sleepy!!

Anonymous said...

I've never understtod all the hate toward Castro or Brummer. They are both just long-serving public servants who could have made alot more money in the capitalist system, but chose to work for the people. Show some respect for these two great leaders before they are gone, and we all realize how much they are missed.

Anonymous said...

Ivan did you enjoy the Hialeah office opening of Charlie Crist for Governor event Saturday? I heard you had a great time there...

Anonymous said...

Why bash CH 7, rumpy? They orchestrated the celebrations?? What?? At least admit that was a kinda ridiculous comment by you.I mean, I think people in Little Havana didn't really need CH 7 to get them to take to the streets, right?

Anonymous said...

And, how about you Gloria, Don, Patricia, Joel, Ana and Karen? Only able to confirm your attendance thus far but still digging to find out who else violated ethics canon and will do such very soon. Not that ethics commission will do anything but you will, at the very least, be reported (already done) and investigated.

Anonymous said...

I would like to get in touch with the person who is collecting signatures to file a bar complaint against Rumpole. We need less speech in this country so that people obey more.

Anonymous said...

Great -- 50 thousand Cubans return to Cuba. 8 million Cubans come to Miami to join their relatives in making Hialeah the second most populous city in the U.S.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the good laugh, 11:56:02! Funny joke with a serious tone!

Anonymous said...

If Hernandez is seeen as a problem, how about the Judges who beat the incumbents who are supposed to have been ran by Hernadez's allies? You have to be fair and bash evenly, not just him. I mean, you say that he is bad and that it is illegal to run against sitting judges which I think is lots of BS. Regardless, the Judges who replaced the sitting Judges or receive what is seen as help should be the focus of the hate this blog puts forth. Let's start with Ivan Fernandez, Diane Ward, Marti Shapiro, etc. Fair is Fair.

I just heard from a reliable source that Brummer has turned the reins over to David Weed, who has in turn handed off to Rory, who just ordered another round of danish, crumpets, and chai tea.

Anonymous said...

Forget Charlie Crist, Hernandez was with President Bush and Jeb yesterday. I saw them! Took a picture with my phone. Where and/or how can I post it?

Anonymous said...

I love how Rump did indeed initially misspell "diaspora" even while challenging someone on its spelling, someone posted and called him on having spelled it "diapsora," Rump deletes the post, and then fixes the spelling in his post.

Could it be that little Rumpy has a problem admitting when he's wrong?

Anonymous said...

I am very happy for Rory and Raul. They are both very accomplished aides and will both uphold the legacy that their bosses worked so hard to build.

Is Robin Faber really going to win? Isn't he kinda weak? He's been too afraid to try jury trials as an attorney, but he wants to sit as a judge? I don't see it. Just hope he spends alot of his own money.

Anonymous said...

Hey everyone! I saw Christian Dunham in trial again today. That guy tries alot of cases, so show some respect!

Whoever was Fake Brummer is funny, but has no balls. What did Bennett threaten to ban you, too and you pussed out and took the pic of Bennett sleeping down? Sad.

LEGISLATURE
Write-ins add intrigue to state racesTwo write-in candidates facing Republican legislators are linked to Rep. David Rivera in yet another chapter in Miami-Dade's telenovela elections.
BY MARC CAPUTO

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/politics/15168310.htm

This article talks about an issue that mirrors the judicial races. Only difference is that J.C. Planas is a wee wee that is going down for being a fool... Go David Rivera! Take them down Rivera!

Anonymous said...

What idea are you trying to express, 12:55? Is English your second (or third) language?

Anonymous said...

I think that all the juvenile cases that Faber was assigned should be checked as his statement show that he may not have done the job of a public defender correctly? Why? Finding someone guilty before an actual finding or court ruling? Dear parents, if you read this file complaints as you may make $100K like Lonnie Richardson from Bennet Brummer if you find he messed your baby up.

Anonymous said...

According to a civil attorney I just spoke with, those banned by Brummer can sue the PDO for defamation and slander if the bans are based on reasons that relate poorly upon their character and are false. Considering that neither Lynn, Gabe, or Dave was fired from the PDO, it is unlikely that anything they did while there would give rise to a proper ban after they left. Could be some nice $ in it for them.

Anonymous said...

Dear 1:03:46, what statements are you referring to? And exactly what is your point?

Anonymous said...

Is is true that Jesse Jackson and other leaders of the left are heading down to Cuba to make sure the transition to Raul is completed without imperial interference? Why can't Americans wake up and realize that socialism is the only hope for the future?Every nation that tries the "market" system ends up in extreme poverty and tyranny. At least in socialist nations, everyone is treated the same.

Anonymous said...

When Brummer dies, about 12-15 people will take to the streets and celebrate. No one else will care.

Anonymous said...

I thought Brummer was already dead. Has anyone seen the guy the last couple years?

Rump:

You really blew it this time. Samuels (sorry ,but I can't refer to him as "Judge") got himself elected by telling voters that they should not re-elect a judge who had been a ... (Jaws music here) criminal defense attorney. [Thankfully, former criminal defense attorney and terrific judge Kevin Emas was reappointed and went on to the circuit court.]

Included in the advertisement was a picture of a dark faced man looking out from behind jail bars (can you say Mel Gibson plays Samuels in the movie).

When he was in branch court, Samuels could be found at the local Denny's having breakfast at 10:30 a.m. (true story; I saw him there after court).

As a criminal (and Constitutional rights) defense attorney, I believe that someone who uses such tactics to get elected is unworthy of the bench.

Check it out; it is all true.

To the Judge Hernandez Supporter (or Judge Hernandez) Isn't your compaint with the Dade Bar who found that Hernandez was less than truthful in stating he did not know who purchased the ad, when in fact it was his wife? All I did was report what the Bar said and make some sarcastic remarks. If you think that was offensive, wait until you read "Judge Hernandez, the movie." Boy will that piss you off. Until then, thanks for reading.

RUMP STATES: To the Judge Samuels critic: how did I blow it? I just reported that he was not feeling well and was not campaigning on a regular basis. I haven't endorsed him.

RESPONSE: Not that I wish the guy illness but anyone [Samuels, in his campaign against Judge Emas] who states in media ads that the voters should remove the sitting judge "because he used to be a criminal defense attorney" and then shows a drawing of a dark colored man sitting behind jail bars is worthy of condemnation, not well wishes.

let me get this straight. If Castro dies and communism dies with it most likely, will all the cuban felons be deported back to Cuba? I ponder that question, not as an immigration attorney, but as someone who's wondering what the hoopla is all about. Will the free-for-all boat people stop? I doubt it because 99 percent of them weren't fleeing communism, but, let's be honest here, poverty. So cuban people, your manna will die with Castro. Raul ain't shit, communism will die with Fidel.

Has anyone looked into Migna Sanchez-Llorens' campaign "Loan" of $25,000 to her campaign on 9/14/05 and the same day a campaign check written to attorney Robert Pertierra for "Consulting Services." Sounds a little bit fishy to me. I wonder if they are looking into it at 1350 N.W. 12 Avenue.
What was this $25,000 for? Pertierra has no campaign experience. What kind of consulting did he give Migna? Perhaps, it was for other not so kosher purposes.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps Mr. "JNC" Lombana can shed some light on the Migna-Pertierra connection.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps the money was for the Mariachi Band that Migna and Bronwyn take to the old folks lunch programs.

Anonymous said...

Please stop writing about "Migna and Bronwyn" as they are not campaigning together and are two separate and different candidates - unlike "Juan and George" they are not linked to one another and are not paying and/or receiving money from one another for services rendered.

You guys, I know the Herald reporters are either on the take or plain stupid. Point here is that, nothing you write about the candidates really makes sense. On the talke? Mariachis? Please! Truth is, everyone here has an interest. Some want to be elected and others do not want to lose their jobs. The staffers get a benefit from campaigning by winning because they keep their jobs for 6 more years and so do judges. Who are you kidding here? Stop writing about how one is wrong and the other is right when they are all doing the same. Plain stupid as always. Herald, do your research and stop before everyone really knows that since the mid 90's your paper has become as good as toilet paper and since you threw Defede out it is worthless with all the writers who are brain dead or on the take since no real neutral reporting has taken place there in years.

Anonymous said...

No judicial candidate will get any press from the Herald unless they do something blatantly illegal (DUI) or unethical (eg, change their name to Camacho). Face it.

---------

Operation Restore Justice is geared toward exposing corruption in the Florida Court system. The web site is here to expose the very rare cases in which a Judge or those under the Judge's control violate the publics trust.

The Supreme Court of Florida has set a path of rooting out judicial wrong doing at all levels. The Supreme Court has released numerous opinions over the past few years making it clear to the general public that it will not tolerate violations of the code of judicial conduct either by a sitting judge or a candidate for judge. Recently the Supreme Court of Florida removed a judge from office because of violations of the code of judicial conduct that happened during his judicial campaign to become a Florida Judge.

All citizens of Florida can be sure that our highest court will NOT tolerate violations of the Code of Judicial conduct at any level. Our supreme court is not shy in expressing its condemnation of any Judge who violates the public trust by not following the code of judicial conduct.

Operation Restore Justice is under the control of a private citizen. It was due to the criminal investigation presently against Judge Ivan Hernandez and his Judicial Assistant, by the Miami-Dade State Attorneys office which has resulted in the seizure of the Judges computer under a criminal subpoena, that Operation Restore Justice was born in early 2006. In addition to complaints from numerous litigants of being denied access to Judge Hernandez court and Racial slurs by his Judicial Assistant against the administrative Judge.

Florida has some of the best Judges in the world. We cannot let a handful of bad apples destroy the prestige of Florida's judicial system. The Supreme Court of Florida through its recent opinions has demonstrated that it will NOT tolerate judges who do not follow the code of judicial conduct.
