GOV. DESANTIS NAMES NEW 3RD DCA JUDGE .......

JUDGE ALEXANDER SPICOLA BOKOR
Alexander Bokor is 42 years old. Judge Bokor earned his JD from the Univ. of Pennsylvania in 2002 and passed the Bar in New York in 2003. He worked with Jones, Day from 2002-2006, except for a stint as a Law Clerk for U.S. District Court Judge Merryday (Middle District Florida) from 2004-2005. He joined Koyzak, Tropin in 2006 and was with them until 2008. He then became an Assistant County Attorney for Miami-Dade County handling cases as legal counsel for the Miami Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works, the Property Appraiser’s Office and the Tax Collector’s Office.
In October of 2016 he was appointed to an open seat on the County Court (Jacqueline Schwartz resigned) by Governor Scott. He ran for election to a full term on the County Court bench in 2018 and was elected unopposed. He spent 25 months in County Court before Governor Scott elevated Bokor to the Circuit Court (Stephan Millan resigned), in November of 2018. Bokor ran for election for a full term on the Circuit Court bench in 2020. Once again, he was elected unopposed. He indicated on his Financial Disclosure form that his Net Worth was $1,442,792.
Today, Governor DeSantis appointed Bokor to an open seat on the 3rd DCA (Judge Salter retired). So, in less than four years, Bokor has risen from Assistant County Attorney, to County Court Judge, to Circuit Court Judge, to 3rd DCA Judge.
Bokor was appointed over nominees Judge Antonio Arzola, Judge Lisa Walsh, Kansas Gooden, Christopher Johnson, and Eduardo Sanchez.

Kansas Gooden? Never heard of him or her. But in honor of my baseball post, it's a great baseball name.

Nobody could be better than Lisa Walsh. What a shame the seat did not go to her!
No offense to our current nominee who appears to be a very solid choice, but Walsh is hands down a superb pick and I was rooting for her. But that and 8 bucks gets you coffee at Starbucks.

Terrific choice. Judge Bokor will be an outstanding judge on the Third DCA.

I says she has "done hundreds of trials, motion calendars AND evidentiary hearings."

Bokor is an excellent choice. Just ask him and he'll tell you why. Lordy help us
Judges Walsh and Bokor were my top two choices.
Kansas Gooden is an insurance defense lawyer who moved down from Jacksonville a few years ago( not sure if she even lives here full time) and a Frank Shepherd protege.
All these judicial candidates should read the rules. They embellish their qualifications and give false impressions about themselves. Cannon 7 states that A candidate for a judicial office shall not knowingly misrepresent the identity, qualifications, present position or other fact concerning the candidate or an opponent. Does a candidate who has no criminal or civil experience or has only limited experience in family, real estate, or bankruptcy misrepresent their qualifications when they do not qualify their experience or fail to disclose the limits of their experience giving a false impression to the public. Also, does a candidate who speaks little or no Spanish misrepresent themselves and their qualifications when they air a Spanish language media ad in which only speaks their name and a fluent Spanish speaker continues the ad as if they are the Judicial candidate giving the false impression the candidate is fluent in Spanish. These judicial candidates hire political handlers who could care less about the rules governing judicial elections. In a past campaign one of these handlers used a political action committee to attack an opponent during an election campaign. Using a political action committee or electioneering committee or other vehicle to attack an opponent violates the rules. Look at what happened to former Judges Dana Santino and Scott DuPont both removed for violations of Cannon 7 after they were elected to office.
Aponte is a joke. It is a shame that Tunis has to even worry about such an unworty opponent.
ArZola is in a class alone. The best of them.
They keep passing her up. She’s definitely the brightest, but it’s just proof that a Public Defender resume doesn’t get you anywhere.
Lisa Walsh was hands down the best choice, but qualifications no longer matter--just political connections.
Bokor, meh. I'm sure he'll be adequate, but wouldn't it be great to have a stellar district court like we had in the good old days? The Third District was once the beacon on the hill, but the bar has really been lowered. Sign of the times.
