TRISCADECAPHOBIA

WEEK 13 IN THE NFL:

Is 13 the charm? Is today the day the Dolphins shake off a season of discontent and woe? Maybe.

The Buffalo Bills travel to the Washington Redskins who are in mourning. But the Skins have a good defense and a developing QB. They ran with the Cowboys two weeks ago, and as we are seeing, that takes something these days. The line is -5.5. Give the points and take the Skins at home over the Bills.

Jacksonville goes to Indy in a battle for the number two spot in the AFC. The Jaguars apparently made the right choice in letting Leftwich go in favor of Gerard. However, the Colts are 7 point favorites at home, and they have an outstanding defense in their own right. The Jags are overrated. Even though the Jags usually play the Colts tough, not today. Give the 7.

The reeling NY football Giants travel to shy town to take on the Bears, who had a surprising upset win last week. Memo to the NFL: DON'T KICK TO DEVIN HESTER. We have already promised to never ever put our faith in the boys in blue for the rest of this year. They have broken our heart too many times. But the over/under is around 41, the weather is poor, and we like the under here.

Three quick bites: We like the over 37.5 in the San Diego/KC game, and the under 51.5 in the Cleveland/Arizona game. Keep an eye on the weather and the field in Pittsburgh. The over is 41 and there is a large winter storm moving through the area. The field has problems that are well known. The game is the 8:00 PM game tonight, and the under might be worth a look by then.

THIS IS THE WEEK!!!! They have no running game. Zack Thomas is out!!! There is no way the Dolphins even remain competitive in this one. Except the hated NY J..E...T...S have come to town. As Springsteen sings, "Your own worst enemy has come to town." And today they're wearing green. "Miami has the dolphins...a one and eleven football team." Yes, today we will be singing the praises of Ted Ginn and Jon Beck. Dolphins win!!!!

I hope the Dolphins don't screw up their Imperfect Season record by winning today. It'd be a shame if they were to win now and break their hard-earned losing streak this late in the season.

I'll tell you what- email me your picks, include your name, and I'll post them publicly. We have till the end of the year and super bowl. I win the picks race, you pay $5000.00 to the charity of my choice. You win, I reveal my identity. What say you? Until you respond, I will not publish your dopy comment. Of course, only you and I know what you wrote, so you will need to refer to it to accept this bet. Come on big shot, put your money where your mouth is

Miami has the dolphins
they're losing 10 to 6

things don't look very good
rumpole may have blown his pick

they haven't scored a TD
only two lousy field goals

but when you're talking Miami
it's a team with lots of holes.

Jason Taylor for Public defender.

Miami has the dolphins
they're losing 20-13
rumpole thinks they're going to win
but I am not so keen

the jets- they are not so good
and Jon Beck is not so bad

but if the dolphins lose this game
like Wayne, I will be mad.

Right now Miami would be a whole lot better off if Cam Cameron went to run the PD's office and Barzee and Markus took over as coach of the Dolphins.

Proof that the Lord works in mysterious ways. The 4 defendant Taylor murder case, where the pd will conflict off at least 3, will highlight the inadequacies and lack of experience of the new conflict office. Barring some miraculously intelligent reasoning by these defendants resulting in an early plea for the non-shooters taking anywhere from 7-15 years to testify against the shooter, the case will end up with court appointed counsel after the initial private defense attorney money runs out.cue in background cavalry music of Mr. George steps up to the plate. Sounds like a case to call in the attorney most often cited by the judges in Miami when you need a court appointed attorney miracle. Most of you should know of whom I speak.

Nick Saban doesn't look too bad now, does he. If the personnel were this bad when he was coach then he did a great job. Or do the dolphins miss Nick and hate Cam. I propose the dolphins defensive coordinator for PD. What has BB done in the last 20 years to help the community stem the flow of juvenile crime and the revolving door justice at the Juvenile courthouse and the never ending stream of teenagers committing violent crime. What has he done to discourage teens in the community from needing the services of his office in the first place. If no criminal defense attorney in his right mind advocates crime, look at Sharpstein's reaction to the taylor murder, then anti poverty, anti crime and job programs should be at the forefront of what the elected PD advocates in the community. HeY BENNETT BRUMMER- how about one gun buy-back event organized before you leave office, give a juvenile a 100 dollar gift certificate to the mall in exchange for a gun, use your contacts in the communtity to organize such an event and get donations before you leave office. or would that require some effort. We, as a communtity, are still waiting for someone to step up and help diminish crime as opposed to just being reactive after the crime has occurred. There are probably 10000 teens in Miami at risk for committing the crime the 4 from Ft. Myers are charged with.

head to head poll shows

BILL BARZEE 34 (27%)

CARLOS MARTINEZ 37 (29%)

the official Rumpole data is not complete but this shows a tie when we compute the standard margin of error of + or - 5 votes.

Miami has the dolphins
but the jets have just scored 30

oh my I can't take this anymore
the dolphins make me feel dirty

they can't run or throw or tackle
and they can't really score
cause when you root for Miami
you end up feeling sore.

Now just wait (chomp) *chomp* one minute (smack) *smackl) here
(chomp) (chomp) (chomp)

hold on one (chomp) (smackL) second now.

Miami has the Dolphins
now they're losing 13 to 33
it seems like everytime I get up to pee
the jets score another TD
they're in the air
they're on ground
they're just not very quick
cause when you're talking Miami
you're talking the very first pick

The Dolphins really suck. I'm so happy I'm no longer with them. My lowly Panthers would beat them worse than they beat up on West Virginia. Christ, my nephew's midget league team could give them a run for the money.

Holy Crap.

The Dolphins are so awful, I would rather spend three hours reading "The Collected Legal Wisdom of Peter Adrien". I know it is a one page book, but it would be excrutiating - repeatedly reading for all three hours.

My my aren't we testy. You apparently will not put your money where your mouth is. I pick games every week, and usually have a great winning week. You, my brain damaged reader, exist only to write nasty comments when I spell a name wrong. One of us does something, the other sits in his little hell hole, cursing the world for everything that has gone wrong and for which you are not to blame.

I guess your failure to accept my challenge means 1) you are so poor you don't have a mealsy 5K to risk 2) you know you can't compete with me.

Loser.

If you don't think coaching matters, ask the Redskins.

Redskins leading by two. 8 seconds left. Bills about to try a 51 yard field goal. Skins have two timeouts. Bills line up to kick and Coach Joe Gibbs calls a timeout to ice the kicker. The ball was snapped anyway and the kicker made the field goal but it didn't count.

Bills trot off the field. Come back on, line up for the kick, and Hall of Fame Super Bowl winning coach Joe Gibbs calls a second consecutive time out. What a master of psychology! One little teensy problem- it is a penalty to call two timeouts consecutively. A 15 yard unsportsman like conduct penalty. Bills line up now for a 36 yard field goal, and Skins lose the game.

Memo to Richard Sharpstein: you have my condolencees. I hate a former client murdered a couple of years ago and I felt guilty that by getting him no jail on his felony he was able to be back on the streets where he was murdered. and the shooters also killed an innocent bystander. although it appears that these defendants may not have been involved in the atv incident you still have a former client dead. P.S. - would you grieve as much if the former client helped make you more rich and more famous.

hey rumpole - can you write a blog piece on what it was like years ago to pracitce in the justice building with lawyers like the late carole king guralnick, judge morphonios, ed carhart and how it is different than the era of the "Q"?
