when irish eyes are smiling
its cause the bar poll numbers r out.
Go Dolphins...er...I mean Patty!
can I get a list of the 30-35% who said gonzalez and velis were qualified? There names should be posted on a list of dangerous people.
For the most part it means crap. Especially when people are unethical and they get all their lawyer friends who contributed to their campaign to send in the poll and say they are great and their opponent is unqualified. Some candidates who got almost every endorsement given did not do well, while their opponent who got practically none but got a lot of lawyer contribution did better on the poll. It is so ridiculously unscientific that it is anatrocity to even permit it.
rumpole - fyi, regarding your posting of alvarez lack of qualification ratings, its "george alavarez", not jorge - despite his "vote cuban" montra....
While on the subject of names,,,can somone tell me what the he** a Bronwyn is? I mean, what kind of name is that?
Bar Polls mean crap. The real deal is on election day. Come one people be smarter than this. Like candidates campaigning in lawyers events, that's a waste of time. You need to go out and speak to regular, normal people, who are going to vote, not attorneys.
Only in Miami, do we have such a crazy election experience.
His name is Jorge Antonio Alvarez.
Vote Cuban or vote Mexican Mr. Alvarez? I am thinking it's more like vote Mexican given your name and birthplace of Albuquerque, NM. Not that it matters for most people. Most people that vote based on qualifications and experience and other important things, that is. The "Vote Cuban" crowd might care though...
As I read the DCBA Judicial Poll Results: Top Ten Least Qualified are Juan Gonzalez, Josie Velis, Cecilia Armenteros-Chavez, Ivan Hernandez, Jose Sanchez-Gronlier, Rima Bardawil, Mario Garcia, George Alvarez, Marie Davidson and Patricia Marino-Pedraza. Close to making the Top Ten Worst are Gloria Gonzalez-Meyer, Valerie Manno-Schurr, Sari Teichman Addicott, Ana Marie Pando and Migna Sanchez-Llorens. MOST QUALIFIED: Dennis Murphy, Steve Leifman, Robin Faber, Bronwyn Catherine Miller, Michael Samuels, Larry Schwartz, Don Cohn, Shirlyon McWhorter, Bonnie Rippingille and Shelly Schwartz. So say the 200 to 750 attorneys who voted.
When you look at the bar poll do not forget to look at the number of people who voted.
Many of the challengers are not known very well.
LETS VOTE GABRIEL MARTIN FOR JUDGE, PD, AND ASA IN 2008!
I find it interesting that more people seem to have cast votes for the challengers than for the incumbents. Most of the challengers were rated as unqualified. It seems to me that more people should know and have an opinion of the sitting judges.
Don't know what it means- just interesting.
To 10:56 a.m.- What is your problem with the name Jorge? First of all, you geographically challenged person, New Mexico is part of the United States,,it is to the West of Texas, and South of Colorado, for your information. And besides that,,,it shouldn't matter if it is Jorge or George,,,unless you are just used to racial profiling. Besides that I thought you Liberals in Florida knew better than that!
The percentages are not always important. In the Manno-Schurr/Bardewil race, for example, M-S actually got more numerical votes rating her UNQUALIFIED than Bardewil did.
To Lady Themis:
You have to look at both the Exceptionally Qualified and the qualified numbers. Add them together -- that will give you a better idea. However, as someone else said, it all means very little, b/c in real life what happens is that the candidates ask their friends to vote for them and to rate their opponent(s) as unqualified. For example, it is highly unlikely that any lawyer who knows him would say that Tony Marin is unqualified. Same for Cathy Parks. Same for Don Cohn.
I agree with above. I just hope the Herald sees it for what it is.
The bar poll is a popularity contest and a political tool. No more, no less.
Lady Themis. You sound so dumb.
Jorge Antonio Alvarez is not Cuban American. He is Mexican American.
