THE HEART OF DEMOCRACY

Date line: London:
Rumpole is in the heart of democracy today. The United Kingdom. It is a country that does not put immigrant children in cages and it is a country where its prime minister does not threaten nuclear annihilation to other countries, as our own president did on Monday to Afghanistan (news coverage here)  in the same oval office occupied by giants like Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt,  Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Roosevelt,Dwight Eisenhower and Ronald Wilson Reagan.

Just moments ago, around 7:10 a.m. Miami time, 10 past noon here in London,  as Rumpole downed a pint at the Dog and Duck, came the news that Boris Johnson will be the next PM of England.

A long history of tradition will now go into motion and it will end with the new PM taking residence at 10 Downing Street by tonight. No interregnum here.

The current PM will soon be making her way to Buckingham Palace where Theresa May will meet with Queen Elizabeth and tender her resignation. May will recommend to  her Majesty that Boris Johnson he invited to meet with the Queen and that the Queen should ask him to become PM.

Soon thereafter, Mr. Johnson will receive an invitation to meet with the Queen and in a private meeting she will ask him to be her next Prime Minister and to form a government. Based on what we know of this extraordinary transfer of power, Queen Elizabeth will talk about all the PMs she has known and worked with, Winston Spencer Churchill being her first.

Johnson will accept the invitation from his Queen to form a government,  and Britain, who once again is standing almost alone in a world of darkness, no help from the United States, will show the world how a true democracy acts. There will be no chants of "lock her up" for former PM Theresa May. Mr. Johnson will not denigrate his political opponents by threatening to send them from whence they came.

And England, and not the United States, is once again a shining beacon of democracy in a world where the United States has forfeited any pretense of a right to lead.

Democracies do not put foreign infants and children in cages.
Democracies do not threaten nuclear annihiliation of other countries.
Deomcracies do not threaten to prosecute and jail members of the opposition party.
Democracies welcome those who come to them seeking freedom and a better life.

England, this small island, once again stands almost alone, proud, resolute, indefatigable, and free.

Why do you repeat the "kids in cages" mantra of the left like a lemming?

When kids arrive, they MUST be separated from grown adults who are not their parents. This is for their protection. To do otherwise would be criminal. They are then transferred to actual facilities for children, which dont have fences or prison-looking dividers at all.

What specifically would you do differently when 23 kids in a group of 200 arrive at a remote location in california? Its hot outside, they need food and water, and they shouldnt be taken to the closest cbp facility (which was built for adults)?

Please tell us mr moral superiority...

The UK does, actually, according to Human Rights Watch: "The UK persisted in not imposing a maximum time limit for immigration detention, and continued to detain asylum-seeking and migrant children. Data published in November showed the government had relocated only 220 unaccompanied children from other EU countries out of a target 480. The UK had resettled only 417 refugee children under a 2016 pledge to accept 3,000 such children from conflict zones in the Middle East and Africa."

Don't count this chicken before it hatches.

Kids are in "cages" on 27th Avenue in Allapattah and Rumpole worked for, and still admires, the SAO that puts them there. At secure detention in juvie, the kids sleep on concrete beds and the AC is so freezing that they have to pull their raggedy gray sweaters over their knees just not to freeze.

Yet Rumpole has been blogging for years, completely silent on this, often applauding the office that argues for "encagement" of these children.

Why the bizarre hypocrisy? Oh yes! Juvie has nothing to do with Trump, so the media has not used the full force of its propaganda machine to get liberal boomers like Rump hyperventilating and talking about concentration camps and Nazis.

But really -- why doesnt Rump find such moral outrage about the "kid cages" at Juvie? Probably because he understands that some of these kids need secure detention. Laws were broken. Leaving the kids housed with their parents -- at this particular moment, would not be in anyone's best interest. Secure detention is not ideal, but it is usually safe. They get food. Some education. It serves a function, albeit an ugly one, so there will be no protestors there. No POTUS candidates grandstanding on 27th Avenue.

And no blogs from Rumpole.

So yes, kids who are carried or forced or trafficked or dragged across the border by adults will need a place to be housed. There is no instant foster care system, ready to place and house a hundred thousand kids. Housing kids with grown men would be inviting abuse of the sort we read about with Epstein. And no, each claimed family cannot have its own housing. Unless Rumpole has a few spare billion to pay for it, American homeless be damned.

So, we house them in child-only facilities. Yes those facilities are lock-down. Hopefully those facilities are temporary. They have been so far. And yes, they were always bipartisan, and mostly built by Obama.

But TRUMP! The Nazis!

First of all how dare you disparage my character. I have never been a prosecutor. They wouldn’t have me and I wouldn’t offer to be one.
Second there is an interview today on NBC of a teen who was in a cage talking about the abuse of guards. The cage was so crowded he had to sleep standing up so younger children could lie down. The last meal was at 5pm and he saved half of it so he could give it to the younger kids who wanted something before bed time.
Let’s see. What other event of the last hundred years had foreigners crammed into small areas so that they had to sleep standing up? The only thing that comes to mind are the trains to the death camps in Germany in 1938-1944.
What wonderful company we are in.

As for the state of Florida’s treatment of juveniles there is nothing I admire about it.
But there is something insidious about these comments. To deflect criticism about what we are doing at the borders people talk about other problems. Regardless of all the problems we have - juvenile justice ; warehousing a generation of African American men ; we are taking infants from their parents and putting them in cages and one day we will all look back in shame and have to answer for not speaking up. But not me. I’m speaking up. And I’m doing more but I cannot reveal my identity.

By the way all my trump friends. How’s that wall? You know. The one the guy who never lies said it would be SO EASY to get Mexico to pay for. Funny. I haven’t seen and checks from Mexico and I do not see a wall being built. And before I left for England I was at the border. So where are the payments for the wall?

I think we can chalk this one up to a few too many pints.

The UK is a mess. Brexit is a train wreck coming and Johnson's is cheering it on in it's most virulent form of a "crash out". And what fuels Brexit? Partly a sense among the regions that the rich and the center forgot them. But a lot of it is nativist anti-immigrant sentiment. They may not have rallies chanting send them back, but Theresa May did have buses running around cities carrying ads trying to scare them back.

Hey Rump, if England is so great, stay there, asshole and don't come back!

So Rump's response is -- don't deflect talk about immigration centers to talk about juvie. But don't mind me as I deflect to talk about Nazis and the Wall.

We get, Drumpf is very, very bad. Very evil.

But the issue remains. Desperately poor people are coming in throngs to the border. While, poor, they are not dumb. They know, as you and I do, that they stand a far greater chance of access if they are in company of children. So while the vast majority, presumably, are traveling with their own kid, a segment no doubt is exploiting this and merely using or trafficking children.

ICE agents are not judges, not social workers, not lawyers. Their job is to stop those crossing -- all of them, if possible. Stopping someone means, literally, arresting them. A system that did not stop those crossing would be indefensible, subjecting both Americans and the border-crossers to rule by traffickers and gangs. Abdicate control and someone will step up in your place.

So we must stop them. And then what? Process for immediate release? Should we set up such a massive court infrastructure along the border to have enough courts and judges to process ALL of them before nightfall, every day? Tell that to the American citizen probationer being held no bond and waiting till October for his first available court date.

And even if we COULD give everyone court appearances without a single overnight, data is plain that fewer than 30% of such immigration court subjects ever return to court. So, effectively, you just turn 70% loose, with no regulation. No safeguards against trafficking, prostitution, no social safety nets, nothing to help them OR the Americans who must integrate them. Again, indefensible.

So, despite Rump's hyperventilation, we MUST house them somewhere.

The options?

1. House each family in separate units, mom, dad, kids, grandma, etc.

2. House everyone together. At least kids can stay with mom, but also with the two time convicted rapist in the top bunk.

3. House adult men together, adult women together, and kids together.

Any rational adult realizes the first is cost-impossible. And the second is morally impermissible. So we do the third.

Id love Rump, or any Democrat, to explain to me a fourth option.

10:53 am- Mom, why don't you text me or email instead of communicating on the blog? Really.

The options?
THE BEST OPTION IS TO SCREEN PEOPLE AT THE BORDER AND WHEN THEY PRESENT A COLORABLE CLAIM FOR ASLYLUM TO ASSIGN THEM A HEARING AND RELEASE THEM TO A SPONSOR IN THE US WHO WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEM.

1. House each family in separate units, mom, dad, kids, grandma, etc.-SURE THAT WORKS

2. House everyone together. At least kids can stay with mom, but also with the two time convicted rapist in the top bunk.- IF YOU HAVE PROOF A PERSON IS A CONVICTED RAPIST- OR EVEN IF YOU HAVE THEM SAYING THINGS LIKE THEY GRAB WOMEN BY THEIR PUS$Y'S WITHOUT THEIR CONSENT (AND I KNOW I HAVE HEARD THAT SOMEWHERE RECENTLY) - THEN REMOVE THE OFFENDING PERSON FROM THE FAMILY UNIT.

3. House adult men together, adult women together, and kids together. NO

Any rational adult realizes the first is cost-impossible- REALLY? WHAT ARE THE COSTS? HAVE THEY BEEN RUN BY THE CBO? (CONGRESSIONAL BUDGET OFFICE). And the second is morally impermissible- I AGREE- EVEN UNCONVICTED PEOPLE WHO BRAG ABOUT HARASSING WOMEN BY GRABBING THEM WITHOUT THEIR CONSENT IN THEIR GROIN AREA ARE INDEED MORALLY REPREHENSIBLE. So we do the third- WHICH ARE NOTHING MORE THAN CONCENTRATION CAMPS. CONGRATS- WE'VE BECOME GERMANY 1938 - BUT THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU HAVE IDIOTS IN CHARGE

Great article, Rumpole! I'm your fan.

It was the all caps which convinced me. Drumpf = Hitler.

House every single border crosser with a sponsor or you’re a Nazi.

Lol. Boomers.

Rump

U are stupid.

The kids coming alone absolutely are tranaferred to juvenile facilities, and absolutely are released to sponsors. The kids coming with a parent can be held max 20 days under the Flores litigation.

U MISS THE POINT.

There is no space. The facilities were built for adults. The kids coming alone sometimes have the names and numbers of sponsors written on a piece of paper, but the sponsors are literally not waiting just across the border for them. There is a period of time where this has to be arranged! There is food, water, baby formula, doctors, ER runs often on a daily basis, sorting out if the kids may have travelled with any traffickers, adults have to be fingerprinted, interviewed, phone calls have to be made, there are vaccines, and on and on.

Bottom line is these kids are not evading border patrol. They are turning themselves in! They are ASKING to be detained. There is a period of time they MUST be detained.

Repeat: unless we leave kids in the desert, they must be detained for at least a few days.

And once detained they have to be separated from unknown adults, hence the dividers. Some are chain link fences yes. THEY MUST BE USED.

Why must you call that putting kids in cages? It is so misleading, and infantile.

Rump answer directly if you are man enough:

Would you:

A. Leave kids in the desert to possibly die

B. Take them in and detain for as short as possible, but divide them from unknown adults (kids in cages)

C. Take them in but dont divide them from unknown adults.

Dont deflect, talk about an example of bad treatment, talk about the wall. Just answer.

I agree with the first paragraph of your post at 1:07PM. There should be sponsors. Tell you what, I’ll go to the border, at my expense, and pick out several Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) looking types so you can sponsor them in your home. You know, let them schmooze with your wife and kids. You need to stop being a bourgeoisie and become the proletariat like your idol, communist millionaire Bernie. You know how many he is sponsoring? Oh wait, he’s not sponsoring any. Well, there’s AOC. But, she’s not sponsoring any either. I know, Ilhan will save the day. Oh no, she’s not sponsoring any. Come on, between Ayanna and Rashida they are sponsoring – wait for it – zero. Maybe Nancy?. Oh no, she’s at zero also. Well, so much for you liberals/socialists/communists putting your money where your mouth is. You are ALL a bunch of hypocrites. And by the way, I also agree with you that that’s what happens when you have idiots in charge. Of the Justice Building Blog, that is.

Come on Rumpole. We are not treating them different then the YS treated Americans of Japanese decent in WW II

Rump must have jumped in a time-machine and whisked off to the United Kingdom of the 1950s, because this post is at odds with reality.

"Shining beacon of democracy," please, sir.

I like England. A LOT. I grew up there.

The state of free speech in the U.K. is dire. Citizens are being bullied and prosecuted by government agents for simply speaking their mind.

Rump, if you want to test this "shining beacon of democracy" start advocating about something controversial or speaking out against rape gangs on the prowl in London and Birmingham suburbs.

You may find yourself updating this blog from a jail cell.
