A very sad day. We are sad to report veteran Miami Police Captan Robert (Bobby) Yee (retired) was murdered at his job in security at a Boat Yard at the Miami River.
Those of you who knew Captan Yee, knew he was as dedicated as they come.
Thanks to Bill Matthewman (who is quoted in the article) for the tip.
Rumpole's summer reading for this week: Street Fighters- The last 72 Hours of Bear Sterns. (A quick interesting read.)
Anna Karenina: because what is summer without Anna Karenina?
And what we're waiting for: Homer & Langley- By E. L. Doctorow
Just in time for the 4th of July! (or shortly thereafter)
When in due course of human events, it becomes apparent that a 208 year old presidential code needs to be cracked......
Fascinating WSJ article (the title links to the post) on solving a 208 year old mystery.
Longtime and careful readers of the blog may remember that from time to time we dabble in cryptology.
And nobody can think outside of the box and wonder why we have a "21" attached to our email address.
Well, maybe it won't take 208 years.
See You In Court?
And while we're perusing the WSJ, here's an article on the ol' My DNA Made me do it defense.
And just because we're bored, here's an article on a Lawyer who was denied admission to the NY Bar because over the 26 years it took him to complete his education he ran up over 200,000 in school loans (which a collection agency quickly turned into $400,000) and the NY Court of appeals rejected the Bar committee's approval of his application for admission. The Bar said the applicant's persistence was "remarkable". The Court of Appeals found his failure to make any payments sufficient to deny him admission.

2nd!!! And me without a decent shumie time quip. Oh well- there's always tomorrow.
andrew hague is the worst of the bunch. there is no other place for the chief judge to hide him and now he wants to be in the circuit court, judge hague, respectfully, you are in coral gables branch court not by mistake.
Where have you been? Hague is the only one with with Circuit Court experience, He did a great job with Arthur Hearings for 6 years, he tried felony cases, moved calendars, he doesn't pile on fees and he treats people with respect, I don't know who you are pushing on that list, but we could do alot worse!
He is the only one with Felony experience, he did a great job with Arthurs while he was here and he tried felony cases, I don't know which person you are pushing on that list, but we could do alot worse!
the lederman story is true rumpole verify it
Great persistence and I know the guy worked hard to finally finish law school and pass the bar... but he hasn't paid ANYTHING??? I don't know how much sympathy he deserves if he didn't even TRY to pay back some of the money. Even a token amount would have meant something.
What's the lederman story? Coming to REG?
Knocking Andy Hague?
C'mon! If anybody truly deserves Circuit Court consideration it is him.
By the way, I never saw him play politics...always justs tries to do the right thing. Years of "Arthur" hearings tells you a lot about a Judge's competence, character and personality. There are other worthy candidates but Hague is at the top of the heap.
7/12/09 @ 9:16 a.m., What.. did he rule against you?
THE CAPTAIN REPORTS:
to 10:41 pm ....
You are three and one half days late. I posted this information on Wednesday, July 8th, at 3:12 PM and stated:

Robert Kuntz (filed to run already)
etc., etc., .....
CAPTAIN OUT .....
Wednesday, July 08, 2009 3:12:00 PM
Chief Judge Joel Brown, in contradiction of campaign promises made, has removed Judge Cindy Lederman as Administrative Judge of Juvenile
hague has come a long way since the wild days of jail div..
i say to give the old man the nod. bring him up to the majors!
Quite a few quality candidates this time around, though I'm rooting for Miguel.
I have come to the conclusion that if the applicant or judge is not under 40 and of the same generation as most of the youngsters who comment on this blog, they get nothing but abuse.
It was not long ago, judges were lawyers in the twilight of their careers and were respected for their tenure and life experience. Now, if you went to law school before 1990 you are ineligible and to be discarded.
Why don't most of you grow up and, for lack of a better way to put it, learn to respect your elders and those who have a better grasp on life and the law than you.
Down with the entitlement generation.
What campaign promise, 8:55PM? The new Chief, like the new Prez. can appoint whomever he/she chooses.
