OLA!

 We are old enough to remember the   English Only crusade that tore into the Magic City in the early 1980's. Indeed, there is now a play about it-  called English Only by Nicholas Griffin, author of the definitive account of the drug wars and Mariel Boat lift- The Year of Dangerous Days: Riots, Refugees, and Cocaine in Miami 1980. 

We thought those days were behind us. We learned enough Spanish to order meals, ask for more beer and the check, and accepted Miami as the international city it had become. 

And now comes this: 


So, here we go again???

Cue Jaws theme: Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the DMV... 

But wait! There's more!! 

While the Florida DMV is English Only, the Super Bowl halftime show was Spanish only courtesy of the Bad Bunny.  That must have gotten the attention of the DEI hatein' maga drones in Tallahassee and DC. 

We nailed the coin toss, Seattle -4.5 and the under 45.5 (barely) and overall had a very good $uper Bowl. See ya in 2027 (maybe).

Is it bad to require English for a driving examination in America ? The drivers in this town are generally shit and making sure they can read English street signs seems ok.

That’s so ironic considering our tax collector doesn’t speak English. I was with him campaigning every day. He can probably order a beer and ask for a check in English but that’s about it. So I ask you, how does Darriel Fernandez have a drivers license?

Licensed drivers, especially truck drivers, need to read highway signs printed in the English language. Or do you want all road signs showing multiple languages?

In other news, the ABA reports, "Patient awarded $2M by jury in malpractice suit over gender-care surgery", a 16 year-old girl who is disfigured for life by a double mastectomy. Apparently this girl decided she was not a boy after all.

In a free country, folks would be able to speak any language they want. You statute-reading lawyers can correct me if I’m wrong, but you are forbidden to hire your own interpreter. These motherfuckers complain that we call them Nazis and then they pass laws that are the most Nazi shit imaginable. You can’t even hire your own translator!

If you Latins had half a hair on your balls, you’d elect legislators who would go to Tallahassee and demand to make Spanish the official language of La Florida. But of course, the Latin talks tough, but when push comes to shove, he always caves and submits to the Caudillo. The Miami Latin’s motto, “¡Viva Trump Viva!”

Not sure what you think is the significance of a verdict for 1 plaintiff in 1 malpractice lawsuit involving 1 gender-care surgery. MAGAts are so vulnerable to the fallacy of insufficient sample. Did they go to Trump U before it was shut down for fraud?

America is already great, but we could do better. Restore the separation of powers doctrine. Lawyers admitted to practice are officers of the court and part of the judicial branch of government. They should not be in elected executive or legislative office.

Mr. Gillespie, not sure why you think the fact that the federalist society, which loudly advocates for restrictions on gender-care surgery, sponsored a panel asking about the significance of a single jury verdict in a single malpractice lawsuit involving a single gender-care surgery, makes that case any more significant.

Not sure why you believe lawyers admitted to practice should be disqualified from elective office. Here are some who became presidents: Adams (1), Jefferson, Adams (2), Lincoln, Wilson, FDR, Obama. Lawyers are at least trained in the constitution and the rigors of rules-based order. I think that's relevant to leading a constitutional democracy.

Know who wasn't a lawyer? Trump. Like you, he went to Wharton.

It is hard for me to understand how any lawyer could admire Trump, a president so lawless that even his hand-picked judicial stooges as well as Republican district court judges across the country so often rule against his administration. Is it because, as our esteemed Attorney General pertinently interjected during a hearing on the Epstein files, the Dow is at 50,000?

@4:20 Apparently you do not understand the concept of separation of powers. Our federal and state governments are divided into three branches: Legislative, Executive, and Judicial. The U.S. Supreme Court held lawyers admitted to practice law are officers of the court, not officers of the United States, and that their removal was an exercise of judicial power, not legislative power. (Ex parte Garland, 71 U.S. 333 (1866).

The Florida Constitution, Article II, Section 3. Branches of government. "The powers of the state government shall be divided into legislative, executive and judicial branches. No person belonging to one branch shall exercise any powers appertaining to either of the other branches unless expressly provided herein."

Re: "The federalist society…loudly advocates for restrictions on gender-care surgery…" More importantly, the American People loudly advocate for restrictions on gender-care surgery. In 2024, those voters elected President Donald Trump to enforce the will of the people. Upon taking office, President Trump made good on his promise to the voters, and ended the so-called "woke" agenda, including restrictions on gender-care surgery. But for some reason you cannot grasp this basic understanding on how a constitutional democracy actually works.

So now children must wait until the age of maturity before elective surgery. Seems reasonable.

Yes, Donald Trump is not a lawyer. That's why he was the only constitutionally qualified major candidate in 2016, 2020 and 2024 for president.

John Adams (1797-1801)
Thomas Jefferson (1801-1809)
John Quincy Adams (1825-1829)
Abraham Lincoln (1861-1865)

Regarding "Wilson, FDR and Obama", Woodrow Wilson (1913-1921) and Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933-1945) did not graduate law school. Also, you left out some recent lawyers:

Richard Nixon (1969-1974) lawyer who resigned before impeachment and removal from office
Bill Clinton (1993-2001) disbarred lawyer
Hillary Clinton, suspended lawyer during her 2016 campaign; defeated by Donald Trump
Joe Biden (2021-2025) lawyer who lost a debate to Donald Trump on June 27, 2024, thereby ended his reelection campaign
Kamala Harris, lawyer, defeated by Donald Trump in 2024.

Thomas Jefferson (1801-1809), admitted to the bar. Author of the Declaration of Independence. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness...", except for the 200 to 600 or so human slaves he personally owned over his lifetime; the planter class, of which he was a member, was dependent on the labor of millions of enslaved people in the United States, and led to the American Civil War.

Barack Obama (2009-2017), his presidency was so bad he gave birth to Donald Trump. Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009, then drone striked American citizens, see Al-Awlaki v. Obama
