JIMMY CARTER RECEIVING HOSPICE CARE

James Earl Carter, the 39th President of the United States has elected to receive hospice care at home rather than continue to receive care from the short hospitalizations he has recently endured.

Query: Who is the best one term president?

Speaking of one term presidents, what do you think are the odds that the last one term president will be charged with a crime in 2023?

Without football to bet on, we are looking for distractions to occupy our time.

We put the odds at 7:5 that you know who will be indicted at least once this year.

Second query: If a former president is indicted, convicted and sentenced to jail, does he still receive secret service protection?

James K. Polk. Next question.

Calvin Coolidge. As for Carter, he was the first president to tap into the nascent conservative religious vote a/k/a the New Right that castigated all the features of society that we old timers got off on in our youths, i.e., drugs, sex and rock and roll. He was able to unite white southern conservatives, black churchgoers, white ethnics, and elite liberals into a one time coalition that (barely) beat Gerald Ford in 1976. Of course, that coalition fell apart very quickly and Ted Kennedy poured salt on the wound whcih allowed Reagan to drive a bulldozer through it and realign American politics for 25 years. Carter was a decent man who was in way over his head. The press hated him and for good reason. One of his first acts as president was to ban alcohol in the WH. Reagan repealed it on his first day in office. The rest is history.

Even if you don't agree with his politics, Jimmy Carter is a wonderful person. He is kind and helpful. He spent much of his life helping others. I hope he doesn't suffer.

George HW Bush was an excellent president who expanded US power and prestige internationally. He also knew how to put on a war with clear objectives and how to get out of that war without creating a quagmire.

1254 and leaving hussein alive

@1104 - indeed, leaving Hussein alive was a vital part of his success. When we later invaded Iraq again and removed Hussein, the region collapsed and ISIS filled the vacuum.

1:58 is right. Hussein as a threat meant that the U.S. was a needed friend to his neighbors. HW was possibly the most qualified man ever to hold the office. It was the crazy Republican right that brought him down.
