STATE ATTORNEY MORALE CRISIS AND SURVIVOR POOL

Last week, before the start of the holiday weekend, as many as a dozen (count em- like a container of eggs or two six-packs of Michelob Ultra, or a jury in a death case in Florida) ASAs quit! Quit as in "I am outta here". There is a morale crisis in the SAO. The pay is not great.  Victim's control all plea offers, and there are at least 14 layers of supervisors that a prosecutor has to go through to set a deposition, Want to offer a plea to the bottom of the guidelines? Add a zero to that number after the 4. Miss one step and you're on probation; miss two steps and to quote POTUS 45 "You're fired!".

It's all bad and no one wants to work there once they get there (so we hear from multiple sources). The other side of the story is welcome to be told. Send us an email.

SURVIVOR POOL

It is back and better than ever. The world famous, earth shaking, Viagra-taking, REGJB Survivor pool.

The rules: Simple- pick one team every week, starting Thursday night (if you wish) that will win, no spread is considered. Texans over the Bills? Go for it. Once you use a team, you cannot use that team anymore.

ALL PICKS MUST BE EMAILED TO FBPOOL12@GMAIL.COM

Do not send your picks to Rumpole at our email address. We will not use it. You are warned.

Ties survive.

Plan your bye week. Everyone gets one. WEEK ONE SPECIAL- email us your pick to FBPOOL12@GMAIL.COM and include the point total for the Dolphins -Cheaters game Sunday. Player(s) who hit the total or are closest win another bye week.

It all happened when Jose left and they reorganized the chiefs.

This post is completely one-sided. You post about a pandemic, yet fail to take into account that the dozen of “eggs” you refer to have their own personal reasons and struggles to manage throughout what you’ve called an unmanageable pandemic. Please be mindful. People aren’t just leaving the state because of one or two supervisors. People have serious health risks physical and mental that they have to battle and endure every day that some of the lucky ones much like yourself don’t ever have to encounter when just zooming in to court from the comforts of your home. ASAs are literally working on the frontlines - at least those that have been working. It takes a toll on people. So go rant over how Desantis is impacting schools, yourself, etc., but don’t forget there are human beings also facing the same struggles on the other side of the podiums. Who show up every day. For the victims and for the public.

It’s not a laughing matter. It’s a serious public health crisis that doesn’t even have clear federal guidance. As for “state” guidance, I presume you already know.

What a pleasure to be a Gerstein hire. He gave us leeway, treated us as professionals, and had our backs.
Janet bureaucratized and ruined the place.
Now it sounds about 10 degrees worse.

10:44 He invited you to share your side. If your side is that people are quitting because of the stress it places on their health to go to REG in person, please do explain.

Not even being sarcastic, I want to hear about that.

Whenever Ive gone in-person almost all the ASAs are on zoom. How is that managed? Is it by division? Who orders you to be in-person and what is that process like?

A dozen ASAs "dropping paper" as it is called in-house is a lot, but this is the fall when three year commitments expire for ASAs hired in bulk during the August class. And so, this is the time of year when ASAs resign in bulk. The leadership in the office has been in transition for about the last 36 mos and more to come. Arrojo & Esther Jacobo left, both perhaps more accessible and reasonable than others, Howard Rosen is out the door in a couple of mos as he pensions out, and Don Horn follows Rosen as another forced state retirement just after. KFR will be going into her next election - yes she will run again and win again absent a health crisis or death - with 4 of 5 Chief Assistants hired or promoted since 2018. But the machine will go on and a steady stream of young lawyers will apply and get hired - just like over at the PDs office. If you talk to insiders and they are willing to speak to you honestly the biggest morale problem in the office for years has been the so-called "employment lawyer" who knows nothing about criminal law or running an office but inserts herself - and is allowed to do so by KFR - into just about every executive decision, Lorna Salomon. To quote the Don in Pizzi's Honor: "She gotta go."

Who left beside Yasmany Barroso?

I've never understood how MSAO pays entry level ASA's so little while other offices around the state pay so much more.

Well, there's a notable end to a judicial career.
