THREE NEW JUDGES COMING TO MIAMI-DADE COUNTY .......

THE CAPTAIN REPORTS:

AND YOUR THREE NEWEST JUDGES IN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY .....

Will be chosen by Governor DeSantis from a list of names sent to him by our local JNC today.

Two Circuit Court judges recently resigned - Judge Martin Zilber and Judge Rosa Figarola.  One County Court judge also resigned - Judge Miquel Mirabal.  The JNC today interviewed 32 individuals  for all three seats. They forwarded 12 names to the Gov to replace Judges Zilber & Figarola and they sent 6 more names to the Gov to replace Judge Mirabal.

The Nominees:

CIRCUIT COURT: (Talk about heavy on the County Court/former Judge nominees)

Judge Christine Bandin
GM Karl Brown
Judge Miesha Darrough
Javier Enriquez
Former Judge Ariana Fajardo Orshan
Judge Scott Janowitz
Judge Jeffrey Kolokoff
Judge Natalie Moore
Judge Luis Perez-Medina
Christopher Pracitto
Judge Stephanie Silver
Judge Diana Vizcaino

Anyone want to lay odds on whether one of the two Circuit Court judges chosen will be former Circuit Court Judge and former United States Attorney Ariana Fajardo Orshan?

COUNTY COURT:

Heloiza Correa
Javier Enriquez
Laura Gonzalez
Christopher Green
Marcia Giordano Hansen
Kevin Hellman

The Governor has 60 days to choose the three replacements.

NEW JUDGES

No surprises here as today Gov DeSantis appointed three new judges; two of them are former ASAs.  The 1st Circuit gets Judge David Oberliesen, a former ASA. The 18th Circuit gets Judge Christopher Sprysenski. Finally, the Lee County Court gets Judge Nicole Mirra, a former ASA.

To date, Gov DeSantis has been in office for 29 months; he has appointed 128 judges to the bench; 83 of the 128 (a whopping 65%) are former ASA/AUSA/AAGs (with 51 of the 83 that were engaged by the State/Feds when they were appointed). Compare that with the fact that only 5 of the 128 were formerly with the PD’s office; (two others were current APD/AFPDs).

Oh please, if Fajardo could take all three circuit spots, DeSantis would do it.

She is a good Federalist Society soldier and Trump lover, so she will get inserted back into the lineup. Doesn't hold a candle to Robert Luck MAGA status, but still well entrenched in the MAGA cult.

The Captain Reports:

From today's DBR:

ASAs and APDs - you have something to look forward to if you work just hard enough to get hired by one of these BIG LAW firms:

Effective Aug. 1, Holland & Knight first-year associates will now make $205,000, the Florida-based Am Law 100 firm announced Monday. That date coincides with the firm’s planned merger with Thompson & Knight, a Texas-based Am Law 200 firm.

A Holland & Knight spokesperson confirmed that partner-track U.S. associates at both firms will be compensated on the updated pay scale, which goes up to $365,000 for eighth-year associates.

“This schedule recognizes that our associates, regardless of office, support clients across the firm,” managing partner Steven Sonberg said in the email to associates. “We are updating the nationwide schedule to reflect current market conditions as set forth below.”

“More experienced” associates, senior counsel and advisers will be reviewed on an individual basis, Sonberg said in the email.

The most recent chapter in the Big Law associate pay wars kicked off at the beginning of June, when Milbank announced $200,000 for first-years. Davis Polk & Wardwell then announced $202,500 to $205,000 for respective 2021 and 2020 associate classes, and Milbank came back with $205,000. Since then, adopters of the new scale have included Cravath, Swaine & Moore; Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison; Simpson Thacher & Bartlett; Goodwin Procter; Willkie Farr & Gallagher; Paul Hastings; and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius.

Yeah, 200k per year and no life. Been there, done that. 8am to 8pm M-F. You better be there every Saturday and most Sundays. And you might see a courtroom for a Motion To Compel once a month. If they pay you 200k per year, they want 600k in billables.

If I can bill 600k per year, it will be for me, thank you very much.

That's the easy money, Rump. I like my money on the somewhat higher odds--on Javiver Enriquez for a judgeship. Better payoff.

Wait. Lawyers make more $ than judges?

Ahem. “That’s the easy money, Captain “. Thank you very much.

What’s a guy got to do to get respect. I’ll tell ya. I get no respect…. The other day, I got back from a business trip. I got in a cab and said to the driver, "Hey! Take me to where the action is!" So ya know where he took me? He took me to my house!

The Big Easy E, on Pennobscott Isle off the coast of Maine makes more than a circuit court judge selling his paintings of Maine wildlife to tourists. The pizza oven guy at EZZE Pizzea that the Easy Big E owns on Broadway makes more than a circuit court judge. The counter girls in their snazzy green hot shorts and purple body shirts with the big E on them earn more in tips than county court judges.

I have worked at a relatively big firm. I was in around 7am and leaving around 9pm M thru F and every weekend to make my billables. It was the worst time practicing. I left as soon as I could. Money is good and your first paycheck feels good until it doesn’t

Come on man!!?? If Fajardo hasn't already been given one of the positions then we need to turn in our bar cards.
