JUDGE SOTO SPEAKS!!

But not to us.....:(

Subject:
FACDL-Miami Administrative Judge Soto

Everyone knows what a great Administrative Judge, Stan Blake was. But,
after meeting with Judge Soto, she would like me to advise our membership
that she is here to help us with whatever problems we may have with the
courthouse, Judges, etc. If you are having any issues with a Judge, and I
don't mean that you are irritated because he/she didn't rule in your favor,
please let me know so that I can bring it to her attention.

She did mention that one of the pet peeves of the Judges is when attorneys
send someone to cover for them at a Sounding and that attorney knows
nothing about the case, can't answer basic questions and cannot convey a
plea. The judges feel that some lawyers are always sending someone else in and never show up themselves which make resolving the cases impossible.

Rumpole wonders: What made Stan Blake such a great administrative Judge? It's not like during his reign there was valet parking for attorneys and a private lounge with a well stocked refrigerator and a flat screen TV with CNBC on it.
He certainly is a good judge to have try your case, and he is outgoing and friendly, but other than glom all the really interesting murder trials for himself, what did he really do as an administrative judge that made our lives as attorneys any better? OK- there's the "special" line at the back of the courthouse for security screening. But the screeners don't stop defendants from getting in it, so that doesn't really help much.

We're just wondering. If you had to compare his tenure to a president, he's like Grover Cleveland or Billy Taft or Rutherford B. Hayes. Nothing special.

THE CAPTAIN REPORTS:

SO YOU WANT TO BE A CIRCUIT COURT JUDGE?

The following have applied to replace Judge M. Esquiroz:

William Altfield
J/Beth Bloom
Manuel Casabielle
Miguel de la O
Dawn Denaro
Rachel Diaz
Alan Fine
Robert Galt III
J/Darrin Gayles
Steven Grossbard
Richard Hersch
Robert Kuntz, Jr.
J/Norma Lindsey
Margaret Rosenbaum
J/Rodney Smith
Paola Mazure
Alan Sackrin
J/Lisa Walsh
J/Debora White Labora

On a separate note, if you have not already heard, former Senator Ted Stevens is now confirmed dead in a plane crash in Alaska.

Many of you remember that he was tried by the US Atty recently, and, after getting convicted, the DC Judge dismissed the claim over prosecutorial misconduct.

At the time, District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan said: "In nearly 25 years on the bench, I've never seen anything approaching the mishandling and misconduct that I've seen in this case,".

Say a prayer tonight for the Stevens family and for the others that died in the crash.

Cap Out ....

misconduct is a real problem, especially in light of the fact that there is no real penalty when it is discovered...wtf

OMG... Norma Lindsey wants to move up to circuit court.

When she was in criminal, she could not make a fucking decision to save her life. After listening, she would take a long recess, call Sam Slom and he would tell her what to do.

Boy is she not qualified but, also, she is a very nice person and bends over backwards to be fair.

Richard Hersch wants to be a judge?

Wow. He would be great.

I still like White-Labora and Gayles as they earned that spot.

The screeners do stop defendants from getting in the attorney line and ask for bar cards or employee ID's.

sabrina puglisi is a fed. pd , why is she even involved at the mjb?

Judge Lindsey is seriously not smart enough to be a county court judge much less a circuit court judge. Judge Bloom, although amply smart, would be another Miller/Fernandez/Butchko/Scola breed of judge. Please, the 4th, 5th & 6th Amendment can't handled anymore judges that treat it with such contempt. Richard Hersch, very interesting. I like Richard a lot and would like to see him be a judge. But I am a defense attorney and have my own selfish reasons for feeling this way. White-Labora for the next vacancy. She has earned it and is a terrific lady. She believes in humanity and it's ability to redeem itself despite it worst deeds and vices.
