NOT SO FINE

Long time Circuit Court judge Alan Fine is calling it quits in the middle of his term. As reported by the Captain in the previous comments, Fine is leaving the bench and forming his own Alternative Dispute Resolution firm. Tired of answering interrogatories on the condition of the resurfacing of the pool in a homeowner's lawsuit? Then try Alternative Dispute Resolution!  Our team of dedicated and experienced Dispute Resolution Counselors are standing by now! Just call 1-800-I--hate-law. Or something like that.

We sort of understand Judge Fine's actions. Just how many motions for summary judgement for an unpaid credit card bill can a jurist adjudicate before going a bit batty?

We also report on some sad news first reported in the comments section as well. Long time REGJB Justice Building Irregular Albert Cartenuto passed away from a sudden heart attack in the Florida Keys at age 63, where he had just started working as an Assistant State Attorney in Monroe County. We knew Albert as a devoted father and tenacious advocate for his client. He died way too young.

As the Captain noted, Al (pictured on the left) was a long-time and dedicated member of the Biscayne Bay Kiwanis Club doing good deeds and helping humanity.

There is more to life than law dear readers. More to life than law.

Had the pleasure of meeting Albert a few months back in Key West. He was also a veteran of the 11th(?) Special Forces Group; a green beret. A true public servant. He will be missed.

I’m shocked to here this. Al was my roommate at the Transportation Officer Basic Course. We were best buds in the course, but lost contact with each other until Facebook came along. We reunited a few years ago when I was in Ft Lauderdale to get on a cruise ship.

I guess I've been out of the loop a bit. I hadn't been aware of Al's death. It's so heartbreaking to hear about friends and colleagues passing. Al was a captain in the Army, a paratrooper in the 11th Special Forces Group.

In July 2022 AL wrote:

"The Tico Belle, a C-47 and World War II veteran of D-Day, dropping paratroopers over Normandy, France and in Operation Market Garden in Holland! What an amazing and humbling experience to jump yesterday from this same aircraft as those “Devils in Baggy Pants” (so named by the German soldiers) did so very long ago!! More so after having walked those same beaches, battlefields and military cemeteries in Normandy five years ago! What an honor to to jump again with my men and comrades of the 3rd Battalion, 11th Special Forces Group (Airborne), once again after 28 years and for one special friend and contemporary, after 42 years! AATW!! Special thanks to the Phantom Airborne Brigade!"

That's vintage Al. I used to call him one of those crazy guys who jumps out of airplanes.

Al will be missed.
