FACDL DINNER

The FACDL had its awards dinner last night. Some people won awards. Lots of alcohol was consumed, making the speeches more bearable, and judges who would otherwise never give you the time of day were present, smiling and laughing and being unusually friendly because they are up for election in two years and they want your support.

Rumpole, as usual, was persona non grata

Frank Quintero won the Against All Odds Award.

Elliot Scherker won the Founders Award.

Judge Raag Singhal, won the Judge award, called affectionately the Koogie after the late, great Judge Gerald Kogan.

And D. Ryan McCartney won the young lawyers award. Gotta love someone who has an initial for a first name.

Other highlights.

Valet parking was almost $33.00!

FACDL provided "complimentary flip-flops" and no, that was not a judge standing around saying "Granted...wait...I uhhh mean denied."  It was some pair of foot coverings. Must be an inside joke we are on the outside of.

Now hang on to your hats, but those of you like us, who missed this event, missed....virtual bowling. Yes, virtual bowling. Here's a beer. Here's a pretend ball, pretend to roll it, pretend to have fun. As long as the beer wasn't pretend...

There was pool somewhere, but as best we can tell, no one fell in.

From the actual, real official guide, there was forty minutes of "non-programmed" time where the guide actually suggested that the participant "get more drinks."

"Hey Martha, are we going to that FACDL thing this year?"

"Nah, it's too programed."

"Wait! I'm looking at the guide. This year they have forty minutes of non-programmed time!"

"Really? Then let's go. I hope they have virtual bowling as well."

We are hopeful a good time was had by all. Just not us.

You know who was not there.

Clarence Thomas? Alito?

Every judge who is running was there. Tough life having to slum with us.

Some of the speeches were very good. I think even you would have liked them Rump.

The traditional conga line at the end of the night was, as always, a blast.

What about the PD macarena dance off?

Remember back in the 80's some lawyers got a limo and a ticket and sent Deloris?

Or when a now retired judge made a rude comment about the chief judge of the 11th circuit and got himself a JQC complaint

Yup, and Judge Watson even sponsored a bar tab. Bob is a nice guy.

Yup, it was cheaper to UBER and with free drinks, smarter too. I took UBER and enjoyed all that red wine that came with dinner... a small piece of brisket with some polenta. Yup, $200.00 a head for that!

That being said and criticized, yup... it was a nice affair and well thought out.

Congrats to the winners!

TYLMAN IS AT IT AGAIN. In a campaign flyers Tylman list her credentials as;
a. She is a mother.
b. 10 years experience (omits that she has appeared in only 9 cases and never tried a case).
c. She is a Certified Mediator (who has not been hired to mediate one case).
d. Claims to be a member of "The MIAMI-DADE" Educational Excellence School Advisory Council (EESAC)". This is intentionally misleading and deceitful. There is no such council for "MIAMI-DADE". Tessa come on, you know that EVERY school has one. She may have been on one for her child's specific school council for one year at most. Yet Tylman Cervera tries to make it sound in her flyer like she was appointed to some county wide MIAMI-DADE educational position. Like Professor Fingerhut said Tylman now Cervera is A PUBLIC FRAUD WITH ZERO QUALIFICATIONS TO BE A JUDGE.

If EL APONTE, the most unqualified person who ever ran could win based upon her name, why not Tylman? Can she dumber than EL APONTE?

Deloris was sent by Bill Clay and Oscar Rodriquez.

I was disappointed to hear the new president's speech, as he referred to himself as his wife's "third child." You guessed it- they have two young children together, and he is the third. While the board is impressive, it is disheartening to hear the man at the top call his colleagues "girls," openly admit he did not contribute to setting up the gala, and then proclaim his status as a child who needs a woman to care for him.

#metoo. We cannot tolerate this type of light family humor. No man should ever joke about his wife taking care of him.

Lighten up

Anonymous said...

Or, perhaps, instead of telling people to lighten up, we hold everyone accountable for making sure women are treated with respect in this community.

Could we please refocus our anger to criticizing white men for everything they do? Let us not dare criticize anyone for being uptight about light family humor.

It’s comments like this that make me no longer able to stomach listening to NPR. --White male democrat who understands why Trump will win the next election and Republicans are campaigning on being anti-woke.
