REVEALED!!!

That Judge who was harassed by that "Gorilla Monsoon" looking gendarme was none other than retired Judge Rick Margolius, a/k/a Ric Zweig, as his website here explains everything.

Ric writes in the "royal we" on his site, as we do here, and that says something about class. In perusing his site we learned that he had a "much anticipated album" that was released in May, as well as news, blogs, and a must see photos section, which goes to prove that there is indeed life after the REGJB, and apparently a good one at that!

Ace PD David Sisselman was first with the guess and for that he wins lots of valuable prizes as well as public accolades.

COMINGS AND GOINGS:

The Colonel of County Court shot us a short email yesterday that Judge Jacqueline Schwartz has assumed responsibilities in courtroom 2-11, taking over for Judge Joe Fernandez, who has moved up to Circuit Court, taking over the calendar for Judge Bertie Soto, who is now chief honcho for criminal court.

Query: is this the first time that a one former spouse has taken over the calendar for the other? And isn't that just so 2010 ish?

HOLIDAY:

Our readers were quick to clear up the question we had the other day. The Courts are closed Monday July 5, 2010 for the 4th of July Holiday. That means we're outta here Thursday July 1, 2010, and off to the Vineyard for the long weekend. It's really the place to be for those long summer weekends. Look for us at the Black Dog Tavern or Sharky's Cantina for some cold margaritas and of course the Beach Plum for dinner, but make your reservations now, unless you know Jill at the door. She's very sweet to us.

ZWEIG???!!!

Visitors to felony bond hearing court today may have been a bit startled to see a ghost from the past. Who was that strange fellow sitting on the bench with the long gray pony tail?

Just who was that judge who was later seen in Au Bon Pain peddling a CD (proceeds to charity) with his picture on the front canoodling with a well endowed, much younger Panamanian woman?

Why none other than the man, the myth, the legend.......(and the rock star??)

Rick Margolius!!!!

Can't get enough of Judge Margolius a/k/a "Zweig"? (Don't ask us, we have no idea)

Then go here to his website, where you can see the cover of his new hit CD "Running out of Time", and listen to the title track (we've always been partial to the single "I'm drunk"*) while perusing some very interesting pictures of our hero canoodling with some of his legion of Panamanian female fans (and one picture of Rick with Ray Rodriguez in Vegas)

Retirement seems to agree with Rick Margolius, and yet.....we're like a persistent rash. Some how once the REGJB gets in your blood, you can never get it out. So Margolius returns for some part time judging, and some full time Miami fun.

UPDATE: He's our favourite current president. He's a biologist with a doctorate in Zoology. He was neither elected nor appointed nor did he seize power in a military coup. And after a few weeks as President the man the NY Times says is a "obscure son of a rural canoe-carver and fisherman" who is a "mild-mannered academic in a black fedora" is drawing rave reviews for his presidency. We are of course speaking of Goodluck Jonathan, President of Nigeria. The NY Times article is here.

GOODBYE JUDGE ROSINEK

Today (Friday) is Judge Jeffrey Rosinek's last day on the bench. 

It's been quite a ride. We will miss him, as will all of Dade County. We are diminished by his absence.

Stop by today and shake his hand; wish him well in retirement and while you're there, drop off a cheque for Friends Of Drug Court.

HE'S BAAAAACKK....

Just when you thought it was safe to walk into a courtroom on the 4th floor comes word that everyone's favourite retired Judge, Rick Margolius is back running the show. 

No talking in court. (He once held a hearing impaired man and his translator in contempt for signing to each other while court was in session.)

Plea colloquies that make your client feel about two inches tall  ("so you're admitting to being a thief huh?")

Rants and raves not seen in this building since the old days.

We know there must be some good Margolius stories out there, so let's hear them.

And just so you know what we really think, despite the sneering,  the chiding, the pondering out loud of lengthy prison sentences, Rick Margolius was always one judge you could count on to make the correct decision, consequences be damned.  If you caught the cop lying, he called him a liar, pure and simple. If granting a motion damaged an important case, he could care less. He called them as he saw them. And in the end, isn't that what you really want in a Judge?

See You In Court, just not in certain courts if our client is going to take a plea, if you know what we mean.
