COURT IS CLOSED MONDAY AND TUESDAY

SECOND UPDATE MONDAY AFTERNOON: COURT IS CLOSED MONDAY AND TUESDAY AS FAY SLOWS DOWN. FAY EXPECTED TO HIT MONDAY NIGHT/TUESDAY MORNING
(Fed Ct is closed MONDAY AND TUESDAY (except Judge Huck who is picking a jury-just kidding, but we bet he would if he could)

Interesting to note that the federal court administrative order ties the court to whether schools are open or closed. Broward, in their infinite wisdom will probably again be open just from 9-11, the better to inconvenience everyone.)

THE TITLE LINKS TO MIAMI DADE GOV EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT WEBSITE WHICH STATES THAT COURT IS CLOSED MONDAY

Of course the 11th Judicial Circuit website here has no mention of this. Another example of our efficient court system at work. People who want to know what to do (today) regarding court would naturally go to the 11th Judicial Circuit website, which apparently is updated as frequently as the president is on world affairs ("The Russians invaded Georgia? Those boys in Atlanta won't stand for this.")

Meanwhile the Herald covers the race for the clerk of court here between Ruvin and a librarian. While the candidates yell about how soon it will take to go paperless and have e-filing, we suggest the clerk first get a website that can be updated to reflect current events.

Anyway, court is canceled enjoy the day off.

BROWARD?
PS. With their "north of the border logic" Broward courts are open today...until noon. Then they close. Great. Make people come to court for nothing, and then send them home into the teeth of the storm. Be thankful we practice in Dade.

QUERY:  How are you spending your days off? At home? At work? Fishing?

A look at the recent successes of Drug Court shows the following:

"Drug court programs have a real effect on criminal recidivism. A National Institute of Justice study compared rearrest rates for drug court graduates with those of individuals who were imprisoned for drug offenses and found significant differences. The likelihood that a drug court graduate would be rearrested and charged for a serious offense in the first year after graduation was 16.4 percent, compared to 43.5 percent for non-drug court graduates. By the two-year mark, the recidivism rate had grown to 27.5 percent, compared to 58.6 percent for non-graduates." (2005).

Thank you Rumpole for the timely information. I guess we know now where to go first to get court scheduling news.

My understanding is that although court is closed, all escalators will be in operation. Should court resume tuesday, 3 or 4 will be shut down for "maintainance."

That 74% of Dade lawyers think that Jacqueline Schwartz is qualified to be a judge is troubling. She is not qualified to judge a pre-k fight between two retarded kids.

8:54: HALL OF FAME COMMENT. TAKE A BOW.

I had an 8AM calendar call Dudes. Where the F is everybody? That Haitian Dude at the front wouldn't even let me in. This sucks. I hate when this happens.

You also failed to mention that the website has a phone number prominently displayed on the front page for emergency information. Any responsible lawyer has that number saved in their cellphone for at least a couple of years now...this isn't the first storm we've had.

8:54, that was easily one of the funniest things I've ever read. Take a note shumie and Q posters.

Why would the Clerk or the 11th Circuit update their website? The Justice Building Blog is updated constantly. If they paid someone to update the website, and had to eliminate 1 additional clerk to handle the paperwork that has to be filed in person, it would slow things down even further. (Don't get me started on how much time, money, and effort would be solved if we could file electronically.)

Take out the pejorative comment reference a piece of anatomy regarding Mr. H and I will allow you to post the comment that I am he.

Of course you're wrong. As I've said many times "I am that I am. "

Why be a Shumie/Q hater?

We just got a whole Shumie day. I mean, come on.

Watching the Olympics all day. The gymnastics and track and field events are worthy of this extra time off.

ALL CASES SET FOR MONDAY AND TUESDAY ARE NOW SET FOR WEDNESDAY. THE FACT THAT THE LINE WILL EXTEND TO THE AVENTURA MALL IS NO EXCUSE NOT TO BE THERE AT 9AM.

My biggest worry is that I voted before reading the Rumpole endorsements.

Rumpole when will we see your picks for Judge? We already know you will be voting for CPS for Clerk.

SEEN ON US1 WHILE DRIVING HOME:

An Aventura Milf driving a mini-van with the bumper sticker SHUMIE TIME? And there was a graphic of a clock with the hands at 4:59.

Laughed my ass off, and I don't even know this shumie.

PREDICTION YOU HEARD IT FIRST HERE:

1. OBAMA PICKS CLINTON AS VP.

2. IF HE DOES NOT PICK CLINTON HE WILL LOSE THE RACE.

On November 5th, check back and see that I was correct.

Do people like it when divisions have 9:30 starting times in criminal?

5:06, please mail your Bar card back and go apply at Best Buy. You are a complete moron. The comment about all cases being set wednesday was obviously a joke.

Maybe someone else will chime in, but I think in similar circumstances in the past, that's the way it's been done.
