ALMOST TIME

Tuesday Update: Simply because the VIX (the stock market "fear index") shot up nearly three points this afternoon to over 21, we have a sneaking suspicion that the President has ordered the US Airforce to destroy the Iranian Nuclear facility at Fordo buried deep underground. Only the US has aircraft (B1 and B2 bombers) capable of delivering the 30,000 pound "bunker buster" bomb. With the VIX shooting up, we think the order has been given. We shall see.

Attention Panther fans. It’s almost time.  On Tuesday night your Florida Panthers will be playing at home to win the Stanley Cup. Now is the time to pay an outrageously obscene price for two tickets.  Go to Sammy’s Steakhouse to be seen and then show up midway in the second period loudly proclaiming your undying loyalty to the Panthers. If the Panthers are behind by 3 you can unobtrusively slip out between the second and third periods.

CIVIL PROTESTS

What is the appropriate response if you’re stopped at a light in your car and some protestors walk in front of you and try and prevent you from driving away?

In LA this driver ran over the woman.

I’m

In Florida our Governors has a more nuanced view. If someone blocks your car you have a right and indeed an obligation to floor it and send them flying.

 What say you?

You are aware the number of Canadians that play on the Panthers, right? Hockey is and always will be Canada's game. Canadians rule!!!

So I am driving my car in LA in a riot torn zone. Criminals are running around setting fire to everything and throwing bricks and Molotov Cocktails at cars. A so called protestor, a/k/a violent criminal, blocks my path. And for what reason? So I can be more easily attacked? The decision is simple.

Nine players out of 26 are from Canada. Yet a Canadian team hasn’t won the Cup in three decades. Go Panthers.

That’s true. The cup has not been in Canada since Clinton was president.

Someone blocks my car at a light I have two options that both result in Shumie time for the protestors. A 357 under the hood that has a get up and go or a Glock .44 that will aerate their clothing and anything inside it. Either way I’m driving away and they are being carted away by EMS. And I’m no MAGA. It. Just a guy trying to get home. They have no right repeat NO RIGHT to try and stop me. FAFO baby. Shumie time old school.

The analysis is pretty easy, Rumpole.

One should imagine a group of protestors whom one supports. (Go ahead, take a second to do so. What do they look like? What do their signs say? For whom did they vote for in the last election?) The protestors are surrounding the car of a person whom one despises. (Go ahead, take a second to do so. What do they look like? What kind of vehicle are they in? What do the bumper stickers say? For whom did they vote for in the last election?) The protesters are pounding on the car, blocking its path, screaming at the driver and (let’s hypothesize) his family who occupy the car. The driver is in reasonable fear of death or great bodily harm (not least of all because the protestors are screaming death threats at him and they number in the scores or hundreds). What must the driver do? What may the driver do? What result for the driver, his family and the impeding protestors is desirable or acceptable?

If one’s answer is not precisely the same for both scenarios, then you don’t oppose political violence, you merely oppose it when your opponents employ it. Indeed, in that case, you may be safely said to favor the use of political violence. That makes you an enemy of civilized discourse and well-ordered liberty, as well as a hypocrite. And you will not be heard by reasonable people to complain if it comes to pass you are either a protestor or a driver in the same circumstance someday.

Hey Rump. How about a post on the origins of the Molotove Cocktail? I am curious about how many readers less than 50 years old will run to their favorite bartender seeking the answer.

Agreed. Always good to stay strapped while driving in Miami. (personally i'm a sig sauer man). If a fat liberal woman blocked my car and my freedom of movement like an unhinged lunatic you better believe I'm taking action. Why would you expect for me to tolerate this?

Rump this blog sucks after the Herald called it out.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, that didn't happen. Except in your fever dreams.

Drivers who are blocked by rioters should accept their fate. The angry protesters run the streets and drivers need to understand that.

THE CAPTAIN REPORTS:

Judge Kathleen Williams just held Florida's AG James Uthmeier in civil contempt for violating her Order of April 29, 2025, wherein she required the AG to show cause why he should not be held in contempt or sanctioned for violating the Court's TRO.

It has happened in history that mobs have attacked people in cars. But almost always protestors are blocking the street just trying to stop everyone for a minute and yell their message. They are angry but not at you. Not the most effective way to communicate and sure annoying to get delayed. But you wouldn't treat an annoying delayer the same way you would a murderer coming for you. What DeSantis left out of his childish message is you can defend yourself with reasonable force only when you have a reason to think you need defense. People yelling and waving signs? No. People trying to open your car door and bash your windows? Yes.
