The death penalty has been waived.
Cardona maintains she did not kill her son. There is a confession from a woman named Pi (really) which has never been presented to a jury because the police don't believe the confession matches their version of the case. Pi has since recanted her putative confession.

The Q would have won this case first time out of the box.
The Gloria Pi defense (a 16 year old intellectually deficient child) was presented in the second trial and rejected by the jury.

Both trials reversed for prosecutor's misconduct. AND the Pi confession was presented to the jury in 2nd trial. Pi even testified, recanting.
Rump - I missed the boat on Bitcoin. What do you recommend as far as Litecoin and Ephereum are concerned? Worthy investments or is crypto currency the next bubble waiting to burst?
You can blame the prosecutors for the reversals but save room for criticizing Judge Diaz who overruled over 50 defense objections which the Florida supreme court said should have been granted. Let's hope Judge De la O can keep the prosecutors under control or there will be a fourth trial!!!
The defense team lead has not improved in the final bout.
Both sides are represented by the best their respective offices have to offer. The reality is this case is horrific and both sides, finally agree on that. The FL Supreme Court could have found the prosecutors closing harmless in light of the overwhelming evidence. But oh well.
