IT IS TIME FOR FOOTBALL

We are back, rested and refreshed and ready to announce that the most beloved part of this blog-the award winning, record breaking, Viagra-taking, world famous BLOG Football Survivor Pool is ready to start a new year.

(Make sure you read until the end. There is MAJOR blog news below. Something many who wear black robes to court have been dreaming about for years and years).

Y'all  know the rules by now ("one bite, everyone knows the rules").
Send an email to FBPOOL12@GMAIL.COM. This is the only email we accept submissions for the Survivor game and get ready to match football savvy against the great and near greats like everyone's favorite Fake Alex Michaels, DOM, Judge De La Over, and a host of others.

Just send an email that you are playing and we will admit you. Get ready for week one, which starts Next Thursday. You can make your pick with the first email if you wish, AND our first competition for an extra pass (everyone gets to pass one week, if you win the Thursday competition you can get a second) by picking the winner of the Cowboys -Eagles season opener on Thursday September 4. Also pick the point total (like if you think it will be Dallas 20- Philly 14 then the total is 34) and if you can pick the exact score, you will win a coveted second life.

By picking the winner we will award a second pass to whomever gets the point total correct or is closest to the total.

Fantasy Football. Maybe. We are working with the commish to see if we can fit it in.

No time like now to make a major blog announcement.

We are planning to end our direct participation with this blog on June 30, 2026. Yes, you read that right. Rumpole has other things to do.  We would like to turn the day-to-day functions over to at least two people, one of whom was/is a PD and one of whom was/is a prosecutor. We will still contribute from time to time and will run next years Survivor Pool.

If you are really interested in a once in a lifetime opportunity, send an email to Howardroark21@Gmail.com and be prepared for a vigorous interview process.

There are judges all over South Florida smiling at this news.

Devastating news. It will NOT be the same without your passion, your intelligence, your sensitivity, your wisdom, your humor. Dear Rump you are a rare and dying breed.

Will the new blog administration allowed to be anonymous?

Rumpole said...

I do not want them to be anonymous. I learned a whole lot doing this blog. With anonymity comes responsibility and I did not always handle the responsibility as well as I should have at the beginning. I got better over time and got the hang of it. Also the judiciary was different back then. Especially Broward where I sat in court one day and watched some angry old white guy judge during a break tell broward lawyers that as soon as he figured out who I was he was sending BSO to get me and hold me without bond on dozens of contempt charges. So I was risking a whole lot. The blog has evolved. Judges know we are an outlet if they do stupid shit so they often hold back. And if they don’t we are there to point it out. But that can be done without anonymity of the blog administrators. I think. I’d be willing to consider it. I think new blood can take the blog in new and exciting directions. To be blunt my schitck has mostly grown old. We need new direction. And I’ll always be around to call out judicial stupidity. There’s more to this. I’m surprised no one has asked if I will reveal my identity on the last day. That would be something wouldn’t it ?

Will there be a grand reveal?

Anonymous said...

Unfortunately, anonymity is essential for a blog like this. we live in a world where revealing your name and speaking honestly will end your career. Sad but true.

Is that when you retire Richard?

Anonymous said...

Actually it wouldn’t. We have all known who you are for a long time. We appreciate your dedication to your Blog. Nobody has done it better. We thank you for what will be almost 21 years when you hang it up next year. I’ve been a loyal reader from the start. I’m an ex ASA but I would never make the time commitment to apply for the job.

You’re killing me. First all new rules of civil procedure and now this? I’m sick of adapting

I can’t believe the SAO has run Rumple out. They want full censorship of this blog. Resistance is futile.

Thanks for doing this. While I wish some of the posters were more professional and nicer (or, at the very least start to follow the Bar rules and stop alleging corrruption on this very public forum), I think you've done a great job with your posts and minimizing the attacks.

BTDT (yeah, it's been a while, lol)

Country Dave already uncovered your real identity back when we used to play hold em.

Anonymity is necessary to protect the integrity of the Blog and the writers. Without anonymity the authors of
the blog would suffer the slings and arrows of those whom are subjects of posts or comments.

Oh lord Rump is retiring.

Inability to remain anonymous will have a chilling effect on Criticism of judges who deserved to be called out when playing outside the bounds. Not to mention, any attorney criticizing a judge, no matter how well deserved, might have to deal with the bar for violation of PR rules.

IMHO there is a risk in lost anonymity for this type of blog. Any criticism of judges (unless you're associated with Trump) is currently very dangerous for a Florida lawyer interested in retaining their bar license. Over the last few years, there have been lawyers permanently disbarred for criticizing judges and their rulings, even when the lawyer had a factual basis for making those statements. Lawyers don't get full 1st amendment free speech rights.

Are you going to reveal your identity on the last day?

God bless you Rumpole. You have devoted so much of your time and brilliant thought to all of us. We appreciate every blog post. Your knowledge of law, baseball, philosophy, literature and human psychology is second to none.

“Just a reminder that Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run” was released 50 years ago this week — and its vitality and eloquence are undiminished.

Set against a backdrop of Vietnam War fatigue, economic malaise and the then-shocking Watergate corruption scandal that toppled a president, “Born to Run” was a collection of short stories written by a guy who grew up lower middle-class and seemed to have lived them.

Cinematic songs such as “Thunder Road,” “Tenth Avenue Freeze-out,” “Jungleland,” “Meeting Across the River” and the under-appreciated “Night” were anthems for the marginalized, the lonely and the disillusioned. Springsteen’s protagonist got his hands dirty, drove hand-me-down cars on two-lanes that could take us anywhere — not in search of some toxic, self-imposed exile, but to find connection, to get the girl who would inspire “She’s the One.”

Enjoy his music this weekend.

Ps.....I do hope you and your successors will do more to stop the anonymous attacks on identifiable individuals that violate the Bar rules. They are totally unfair since their is no way for the victims to defend for (and most are conclusory) These anonymous attacks are as cowardly as they are improper. There is nothing constructive about bashing people anonymously on SM like this.

I’m strongly considering it. Since I won’t be practicing here anymore I don’t need to worry about MAGA Drones taking it out on my clients.
