USA vs Belgium
FINAL: BELGIUM 2- USA 1.
After 90 minutes of 0-0 play, including a record 12 stops by USA Goalie Tim Howard (a record 16 saves over all including added time), Belgium erupted for two goals, putting USA down 2-0. But after a string of substitutions, including 19 year old phenom Julian Green, Green brought the USA back to 2-1 on a beautiful play where he took a picture perfect waist-high pass and planted it into the back of the Belgium net. After pulling back within one, the team had several opportunities, including a beautiful play on a free kick that had a USA player free with the ball in front of the goal. But Belgium held on, and the dream of Team USA died on a warm Brazilian evening on the edge of the jungle.
That was some storm we had Monday night. We have storm windows, but the rain pelted the windows something fierce, as the thunder rumbled and the lighting sliced through an early, blackened sky.
There is something comforting about being home, curled up with a good book or your favourite blog while the weather rages outside.
Simon Steckle gets a rare "nol prosse" in a murder case after the prosecution was satisfied his client was in another country at the time of the killing. Richard Scruggs did the honors for the state. And is is and should be an honor for a prosecutor to dismiss a case. Seeking justice is their highest calling, and that comes in many forms, including dismissing charges against innocent defendants.
Mid part of the short week. But boy are we busy.
See you in court.

Only Germany ever came back from a 2-nil deficit in overtime, against France, in 1990 or 1992, in the famous Veiner Schnitzel Goal game. sorry Rump. It wasn't meant to be.
So, what's the deal with Miranda firing her bailiff?
Mistrial in Rolle? Any more info?
I love Simon …. He has been an institution at the Justice Building … and the Heat games for years!
The U.S. soccer team seemed to peak in its first game (its only win) and went downhill from there. I don't understand all the hoopla. If it wasn't for the goaltender, the team would have been slaughtered in every game. Just imagine if we would have somehow won this game and and then have to play one of the real soccer powers--Argentina--in an elimination game--not pretty to think about. At least now we can start getting ready for the real football season.
Really, you think we went downhill after the win against Ghana? You must have slept through Portugal match. Yes, we lost against Germany but by one goal and in case you were wondering, Portugal and Germany are real soccer powers.
The end of the Portugal game was one of the biggest chokes that I've ever seen in a sports event. Our record was 1-2-1, and I really don't see any reason to celebrate.
Only one of our soccer players plays in a real league; Tim Howard.
The United States does not have a soccer league with promotion and relegation; and they have a salary cap. When your league is not a real league, but a collective in restrain of trade, and you artificially suppress wages through a salary cap, you are not going to get quality players.
We viewers have a choice, we can watch leagues where the market sets the wages and consequently attracts the best players, guys like Howard, or we can watch a league where players who can't make it in the big leagues play against lesser talent.
When players like Dempsey, Bradley and Donovan can't play in the good leagues, why do you think they can complete in the World Cup?
