Longtime and careful readers of this blog know that from time to time we have taken pause from our appointed duties as scribe of the comings and goings of the REGJB and entertained serious epicureal discussions about such topics as the Chicago Hot Dog and where one could obtain the best Bar-B-Que in town.
We now turn our attention to more ante meridian concerns and invite our readers to tell us where is the BEST BREAKFAST IN TOWN?
Some rules: If you live outside of Dade County, you have our sympathies, and we could care less where the best breakfast in Weston Pines or Pembroke Ponds is. Nobody (meaning us) cares.
If your taste runs to Denny's Grand Slam, we're not interested. Our personage has never darkened the door of a Dennys, and most likely never will.
Have at it.
We'll start the discussion off with a small out of the way counter only joint- Ruben's Cuban restaurant in Pinecrest. Simply a very good breakfast with one of those machines that slices the oranges and squeezes out the OJ.
See You In Court, but not having breakfast at Au Bon Pain.
When you see something that is not right, not fair, find a way to get in the way and cause trouble. Congressman John Lewis

Agreed on Deny's, will not patronage that business, however the best breakfast is the one made at home.
If you must grab a bite on the go I would say Jackson's southern style (they bake fresh biscuits) or Cacique's (para pan cubano, bien planchado) on Flagler Their Cafe con leche' is pretty good they make the eggs just right too.
Roasters and Toasters: Pinecrest. Fluffy omelets big enough for two; Nova, Eggs and Onions and blintzes. Stuff some grilled turkey sausage in your spinach/egg white friattata and you wont need lunch. Jewish Soul Food. The staff are all long-timers.
Berries: Grove. The indoor/outdoor ambiance sells but its the food that sizzles. Well-prepared Benedicts and omelets. Grilled home fries/onions. Always a nice selection of young Grove-ites.
Greenstreets: Grove. Another venue-driven spot, but they don't disappoint. Feta or goat cheese and tomato omelet are tops. Coffee is week, but you get to sit at Commodore and Main and watch the show.
I'll leave the Beach and North End reviews to the "dandies" and Russians.
bagel emporium dominates. nothing else comes close
with the exception of the neighborhoods east of US1, Dade County is a dump Rump. Broward at least has decent neighborhoods where regular folks can afford a house east and west of US1.
Bagel emporium is pretty good and the UM coeds make it interesting at times. Also, frequented by many attorneys. Was better when Paul owned it.
Ham N Eggery on 163rd in North Miami. Old school all the way. And on the RIP list, and for the old timers here, Smitty's on 2d Avenue near 29th Street was my all time favorite. Great service and food. Invariably you would see a lawyer, judge, cop and sanitation worker all getting ready for another depressing day while watching the news on a 1981 Toshiba 19 inch TV.
The place behind/ just North of the Courthouse at 73 W. Flagler. I think its Diana's. Used to be a Royal Castle when I was a kid.
But I agree w/ AM Cacique's is also good, love there cafecito
Diana's is a satellite office for most civil lawyers. Only thing is, the cortaditos are spectacular at the satellite office! Much better than the swill served at my office!
Gracianos in gables. Best plum and bacon empanadas. El carajo makes the best chicken empanada. With a cafe con leche.... Awsome!
1. Blue Collar, Biscayne and 60th across from Balan's. Best lunch and dinner right now, too.
2. S & S Diner.
The Big Pink in South Beach. Decore is not up to usual pretentious South Beach standards but food is great and you might even see a celebrity.
The Eating House in the Gables or Yardbird on the beach.
The Donut Gallery on the Key.
-Eddie P.
S&S rates right up there, but was better when original owners ran it in the 80's.
Does Eating House do breakfast???? They just re-opened.
Smittys- old time place. Liked it but never loved it. S&S was always better.
Moe's deli and bagel Aventura--across from Barnes and noble and behind pier one.
Moes- the best? Nah, not by a long shot.
One of my favorite breakfast establishments is Joe's Take Away. Lets begin with the Crispy Corn Flake French Toast (the name alone speaks sufficiently). How about the Oatmeal with walnuts, raisins and brown sugar. The Omelets are sublime (you can even get stone crab meat as an ingredient). The real jewel in the crown is the Smoked Applewood Bacon. I consider myself somewhat of a bacon connoisseur and theirs is among the best Ive tasted. (Honorable Mention: The Original Pancake House also has outstanding bacon).
Front porch
Coral Bagels on US1 and 27th Avenue.
I stopped going to S&S when I saw a waitress bang a napkin holder on the counter, causing some roaches to scurry out, and she told me that she did this every morning as part of her regular cleaning routine.
S and S and Smitty are nostalgia-driven. Food sucks at both. Quintessential greasy spoons.
Bagel Emporium!???!!
If you want your runny eggs served on a styrofoam plate, go for it.
Please.
Front Porch Cafe on South Beach is solid
Bagel Cove, Aventura
JOES TAKE AWAY!
Yes- How could I forget. I would have to say that is the best in my opinion. stone crab omelet.
Casablanca's on the river. Excellent breakfast, especially the bacon and pancakes. Extremely reasonable prices.
Best to travel by boat.
Casablancas has breakfast? Did not know that.
Au Bon Pain. The rodent wrap is delicious
For Kendallites:
Broadway Bagels on Kendall Drive and 137th. Great French Toast and bagels are fresh made right there. Eat like a king for about 6 bucks.
Roasters and Toasters is the most overrated eatery in Miami.
By the way, for Angry Gurl: The BK on US1 and 160th near the Brandsmart is open on Christmas day. Get your rant on, AG.
It wouldn't serve to tell you and your readers where the best breakfast is. You all can neither afford it nor get a table.
Always a big fan of Balan's on Lincoln Road. Great food + an amazing view of life's passing parade.
Nothing wrong with Broward. Nice neighborhoods where you can still walk your dog after 8 pm, and at least 50% of your neighbors speak English.
Rather interesting that a discussion on best breakfast generates 10 times more interest than the tragedy in Connecticut. Go Mayan apocalypse.
the rodent wrap was a good one.
will have to try joes.
bagel emp has the best white fish, nova and bagels. nothing comes close in miami. still a far cry from b. greengrass.
Wagons West in Sunniland/Pinecrest.
Secret Judge. I didn't push a discussion of the tragedy in Newton because it is so unspeakably sad.
Every morning I get into my 911 Turbo and drive to the Mandarin after working out at my gym. The valets hold my car for me. I eat an egg white omelet and a sliced prime filet and Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee which is brewed at my table.
Meanwhile the Wall Street Journal and Washington Post are brought to my table.
Lets just say most of you cannot afford my breakfast. I pay more for a few egg whites and a cup of coffee than you spend on your big saturday night out at Mortons.
But then, I am such a better lawyer, my fees are so much higher, I am worth it.
Wagons West in Suniland best by far!
Secret Judge,
The CT shooting is an unspeakable horror that left a hole in our hearts.
Sometimes laughter is needed in order to deal with grief & it doesn't make us heartless or even inconsiderate.
Thank you Rump for this post.
A moment of silence please for the NY Jets. .......................
hahhahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Casablanca's , are you kidding. You walk in and that place smells. S & S was great 25 years ago. Ham & Eggery was my DAd's place. Same waitresses are still there.
I miss Wolfie's & Corkies had breakfast there all the time in high school.

South Florida immigration attorney facing federal fraud charges
A Miami immigration attorney is being accused of submitting fraudulent information to help six foreign nationals in Southwest Florida get permanent residence, according to a report by naplesnews.com.
Karen Caco has been indicted on visa fraud and conspiracy charges. She operated International Immigration Services PA in Naples.
Caco is accused of forging letters and submitting fraudulent lease agreements and financial information. According to the report, Caco was arrested Tuesday and released on $50,000 bond. The charges carry a 10-year sentence in federal prison if she is convicted.
Linda Osberg-Braun, her attorney and law partner, called Caco "one of the finest immigration attorneys” she has met.
"I look forward to helping her resolve these charges," Osberg-Braun told the Naples Daily News.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Caco attended Pepperdine and Widener law schools and is a partner at Bernstein Osberg-Braun, an immigration law firm with offices in Naples and Miami. According to the firm’s website, the South Florida offices are at 11900 Biscayne Blvd. in North Miami.

Front porch was solid until they moved. Now they don't even have an ocean view. The food is still good but it has lost a lot of its cache with the view.
Deli Lane and Coral Bagels all the way.
I now know who old guy is...don't worry, I will never snitch on you and your cute bicycle shorts!
I second Kenny's sentiments, as we both frequent the Take Away Breakfast.
The shocking part is that it's relatively inexpensive.
Front Porch on Ocean and 15th gets honorable mention.
Rumpole is correct. Newton is too horrible to discuss here.. So very sad.
Is that place across from Juvi still open? It was dirty and nasty but they had good coffee and cuban toast. I never got sick, and the coffee girl large breasts. . S&S use to be better than it is now, but it is still good. Coral Bagels has the worst coffee...
The Villa on alton road was the best.
Fake Secret Judge:
There's nothing we can do anyway!. People kill, guns dont kill. Thats why I sleep with my glock!
And geez, cant we talk about killing? Why do we have to discuss something nostalgic?
I am so above all this. I am a judge.
anyone hear of an investigator named darren bock? (sp?)
I have two separate clients in custody, who say he is offering money for false testimony.
guess i shouldnt be surprised this goes on. but still...
Never wore bicycle shorts in my life.
I may have an interesting bod, but very few get to see the entire package.
You have no idea who I am -- other than that I am probably not Rumpole.
Jimmy's East Side Diner on Biscayne, Morgan's in Midtown, Peacock Garden Cafe in the Grove, Donut Gallery on the Key
Why is manny Ribera rolling in a 2002 Altima. In Sweetwater of all places
I know the guy who goes to the Mandarin for his Blue Mountain coffee was full of it, but... never take breakfast advice form someone who eats egg white omelets.
The egg is one of natures perfect foods and not enjoying the whole thing is a waste of a beautiful thing.
Egg whites alone are for wusses (with the exception of a few legitimate medical reasons why people can't have yolks.) And if Mandarin guy is eating prime filet he can have the yolks.
If you ever hear someone talking about farm fresh pastured (not pasteurized) eggs, now that's someone to take breakfast advice from.
