We have exclusively learned that none other than US Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, in Gainsville for the Gator/Canes game this weekend had Rick Freedman change his suicide pool pick from the Chargers to the Patriots, as the CJ was convinced that the Carolina Panthers had a legitimate shot to win the game and beat the Chargers (which in fact they did on the last play of the game.)
However, the last minute switch is not without controversy. There has been a legal challenge to the switch and the US Supreme Court has ruled as follows with Roberts not participating in the decision.
Alito writes that it was the original intent of Rumpole to allow picks to be switched before game time, so the switch is legal. Thomas joins Alito with a "whatever he said me too" concurrence.
Stevens, Ginsberg, Breyer, and Souter also concurred in the result with Alito but wrote to say that the rules regarding the switching of picks should be liberally interpreted.
And finally Justice Kennedy also concurred and noted that most international blogs allow suicide pool votes to be switched at the last minute, and he found international decisions to be persuasive but not binding.
Thus, Rick Freedman's switching of his pick has been affirmed 8-0 by the US Supreme Court.
MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL:
Longtime and careful readers of the Blog know that we generally avoid Monday night picks. But we like the Pack, and we like them to win tonight. Packers -3 (+75). We also like the over 38 (+25).
We don't like the Broncos at all this year, but we think they have a very good QB. We think the Raiders are on the right track, but their QB is untested. You may want to take a flyer on the Boys in Silver and Black, but not more than a few bucks.
It's official: Tom Brady is out with a torn ACL. Real championship teams (not cheaters) can and have won with their back-up QB's. Shula took our Fins to a perfect 17-0 in 1972 with EARL MORRAL (we admit our stupid mistake of initially writing Don Strock, which of course was 100% wrong. Our readers quickly corrected us, as you will see in the comments section. Whomever gave Don Shula our cell phone so that he could call us and yell at us-thanks a lot. Not.) running the offense for most of the season. Now lets see what the evil genius Belichick is made of.

Don Strock? How bout Earl Morrall?
Rumpole, I'm reasonably sure Don Strock in 1972 was home watching Earl Morall guide the Dolphins following Griese's injury. He went on to act as a volunteer QB coach at UM.
Rump - I know you obviouly don't like Belichek, Brady and the Pats but to claim that they haven't won anything. Dolphins won 2 rings over 30 years ago and Pats win 3 out of the last 7 and we are still
just cheaters. Your bias makes you sound like a teenage sore loser.

Earl Morrall - not Don Strock.
The Stroker was part of "WoodStrock" when the Fins went to the Super Bowl in 1982 with David Woodley and Don Strock as co-QB's.
Unfortunately, some guy named Riggins spoiled all the fun for them.
Morrall, on the other hand, walked into the Dolphins v. Chargers game at the Orange Bowl (I was there) and I believe it was the 4th game of the year and Morrall went on to win the next 10 games and the Fins finished the regular season 14-0 and Morrall started the post-season before Griese came back in and helped to finish out the "Perfect Season"
There's something I just don't like about Hoodie and his precious QB. I admit it. They rub me wrong. I don't mind losing to a better team. It's just that smarmy smirk. Belichick is like the Dick Cheney of the NFL. I just don't like him. And Brady- QBs who run around Europe with models bother me as well. Of course I don't wish injury on anyone. I would love to see a Dolphin Defensive lineman plant brady and ring his bell for the game. But I do not celebrate his ACL tear. I am sorry for him. That being said, lets see the evil genius win now that his little darling QB is not there to bail his butt out of games.
EVERYONE IS RIGHT AND I AM WRONG. I CHANGED THE POST. IT WAS EARL MORRAL AS ANY IDIOT KNOWS. BRAIN FREEZE. I BLEW IT. SORRY. I FIXED IT.
Is it me or is it really weird that Rick sent that picture to the entire universe?
Rumpole- you moron. You idiot. You know nothing about football. It was Earl Morral and not Strock who won with us in 1972. If you were on my team I'd cut your butt for this.
PS- I am beginning to think that You and the Captain and Rick Freedman are all one and the same person. I'm getting Ed Newman to check this out for me.
it's you 5:01
5:01, it isn't just you.

1976 Pittsburgh Steelers. Two time Super Bowl Champs. Week 5- Mistake By The Lake Cleveland Brown Turkey Jones dumps Bradshaw on his head. You can often see the highlight on ESPN. After week 5 the Steelers are 1-4. Mike Kruzack takes over as QB. The Steelers close out the season by wining 9 in a row. Franco Harris and Rocky Blier become the second backfield duo to each rush for a 1000 yards. (Czonka and Morris were the first for the Fins). Steeler Defense throws up FIVE COUNT EM- FIVE SHUTOUTS IN LAST NINE GAMES. THREE SHUTOUTS IN A ROW. DEFENSE GIVES UP A TOTAL OF 22 POINTS IN 9 GAMES. THE GREATEST RUN BY A DEFENSE IN NFL HISTORY.
Steelers make it to AFC championship game where they lose Rocky Blier, Franco Harris, and their kicker Roy Gerela, and lose to the hated Raiders. But that was a championship team that lost its QB and still made it to the AFC championship game. Most Steeler fans including owner Dan Rooney will tell you the 1976 team was the greatest team in Steeler history. No doubt it was the greatest defense the NFL has ever seen.
No way the Patriots are in their same class. No way.
PS. Rumpole- I guarantee I will beat you in the suicide pool this year.
steeler defense is right. That D gave up only 138 points in 14 games and they were a mean son of a bitch. They were beaten though by a Raiders team that went 13-1 on the year (with their only loss to the PATS) and they then spanked the Steelers in that Championship game 24-7 and beat the hapless Vikings 32-14 for their fourth Super Bowl loss in eight years.
But the Fins 72 team scored more points (385) than any other team in 1972 and let up the fewest of any team that year (171) and still managed to stay undeafted under the guidance of a 40 year old QB.
5:48 PM--I remember that well. It's also Mike Kruczek, not Kruzak. The 1976 Steeler D was the best in NFL history, hands down.
rick freedman is a strange brew
Good lord, a man with a flat top that perfect needs to be recognized and justly acknowledged.
Yeah, Rumpole. Alito does all of Thomas' thinking for him. Do you ever read SC opinions? Or do you just let the NY Times do the analysis for you?
Thomas is just another dumb black guy, right? Or is it b/c he's black and conservative? Oh, so scary...
You are really such a white boy pig racist (yes, you!) and you think you're such a progressive champion. Phony!
Who you talkin to?
Is there a smudge on my monitor screen or do I see a little brown spot on Freedman's nose?
Jack,
Strock actually came after Morrall. Remember "WoodStrock" David Woodley and Don Strock. That was after Griese.
