TV JUDGES

With confirmation that Judge Shuminer has accepted a job with Univision, there are, by our count, four former Miami Dade Judges with television shows on the air or about to begin.

Lets contrast the accomplishments of our Judges with what has been going on North of the Border.

Recently, we have seen these changes in the Broward Judiciary:

1) The Chief Judge Resigned.
2) Three Administrative Judges resigned, one (Judge Greene) because he called African American participants in a case “not human”.
3) One Judge arrested, while his colleague gained national attention while weeping over the Anna Nicole Smith fiasco.
4) One Judge chastised some litigants for not being fluent in the King’s English, while another Judge tried to call Immigration on people who appeared before him who were not US Citizens,
see our post of March 17, 2006, Broward 2021
BROWARD 2021

while his Hispanic colleague accepted a paid suspension for his not too secret email criticizing his colleague.

It’s a Circus up there!!!

Meanwhile Miami Traffic Magistrates are busy hiring Hollywood agents.

See You In Court.

LUCKNOW (Reuters) - Lawyers tied a young man to a tree and beat him outside a court in India for refusing to marry one of their relatives, an official said on Wednesday.

They rounded on the victim when he arrived at a court in the Taj Mahal town of Agra to settle a dispute over marrying the niece of one of the lawyers.

Indian TV channels showed the abusive lawyers tearing off the man's shirt, tying him to a tree trunk and cutting bald patches into his hair. The 22-year-old victim was then beaten up.

Local official K. Chandramauli said he ordered police to file a case against the lawyers. The Agra Bar Association said it was investigating the attack

We Received this email from Judge Shuminer's husband:

Dear Mr. Roark:

In addition to confirming the information about my wife's contract with Univision, I will let you know that she submitted her letter of resignation to the Governor today effective June 29,together with the withdrawal of her nomination to the 3DCA . After I sent you the previous e-mail I realized I failed to thank you for moderating the flood of emails you received in an effort to contain the information in the event it was untrue. My wife considered Univision's offer for a long time and it was difficult to walk away from the nomination for the 3DCA position, but in the end she decided the show was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I appreciate your consideration and remain grateful for it.
Regards,
Alan J.Shuminer

THE CAPTAIN REPORTS:

An interesting note on the Shuminer announcement. Do you remember who Judge Shuminer replaced on the Circuit Court bench?

None other than TV star Alex Ferrer of CBS' Judge Alex.

CAPTAIN OUT .........

For all those "no speakems" reading the Blog:

Ray Rodriguez, President and Chief Operating Officer, said, "The 2006 fourth quarter marked the close of another year of growth and success across Univision's businesses. The Univision Network was the #5 network in the country in any language for the entire year and outranked at least one of the major English-language networks on nearly two out of every three nights among Adults 18-34. Univision Radio achieved exceptional revenue growth in the quarter, while Univision Online continued to grow in every notable metric."

The 2006 fourth quarter marked the Univision Network's first full year as the #5 network in the country in primetime among all Adults 18-34, 18-49 and Total Viewers 2+ as measured by Nielsen's NTI. On nearly one out of every two nights of the fourth quarter, Univision attracted more total Adult viewers 18-34 than ABC, CBS, NBC or FOX.

We did not post a putative comment which reprinted some article about Wisconsin and the right to life movement. 1) We dsicourage people from copying lenghty articles 2) it is off topic. It has nothing to do with this blog.

You can summarize the article and post the link if it makes you feel better.

Rump

Dont forget that great satire piece you did a year ago about that north of the border judge who coerced defendants to admit they were illegals so he could sick INS on them, they lie to the JNC about it. He is part of JAAB so they never mention this but I disappointed to see you giving him a pass as well.

I heard that criminal defense attorney Larry Sparks passed away recently. Can you confirm this and if true, do you have any information about this?

Rumpole, please let your readers know that on Monday, June 4th at 5:30 pm at Tobacco Road in the upstairs room there will be a meeting of the Florida Indigent Defenders Association (FIDA). We ask all PCAC attorneys and others of goodwill to attend.

More madness from Broward! A Broward County judge, Judge Holmes ordered a prosecutor to complete 10 hours of community service after her cell phone rang in court Wednesday. I love it!!!! Broward is like a sitcom or a reality show these days!!!!

Read this article about Jessica Lunsford's brother who has been arrested for unlawful sexual conduct with a minor (his girlfriend (14), he is 18). He may be subject to the lifelong offender registration his father fought so hard to pass.

We cannot post comments speculating on whether a lawyer comitted suicide until we get confirmation.

What is wrong with a judge being angry for a cell phone going off?

That is bad behavior. I have seen idiot lawyers actually answer a cell call in a courtroom when the judge was on the bench talking on the record.

I also have heard cell phones go off in weddings and funerals.

Has it come to this?

OK, who committed suicide?

Is it true that Harvey Shenberg was released from prison and is expected to get the 3rd DCA spot?

Captain...although the irony would cute, check again on whom it was that Shuminer replaced.

And let's not get too crazy with honoring the soon-to-depart...she's leaving behind a legacy of enormous unfulfilled potential. The bench was her oyster, and she spit up on it like a nervous kid. Bye.

Congratulations to Shuminer, though I am not sure what they saw in her. What I am most happy about is that Milly will need to find a 10 to 3 job. Good luck.

What do Shuminer, Milian, Young and Ferrer have in common besides being from Miami?
