EXCUSE ME, I ORDERED THE KOSHER MEAL

New Tein/Lewis update below!

The Feds have sued the Florida Department of Corrections for not offering inmates a kosher meal.
The Herald article is here. Noteworthy is that the State spends a whopping $1.54 per inmate for three meals a day.

DOM has had continuing and excellent coverage of the Apple patent trial and the troubles Samsung lawyers have had in getting along with the trial judge. That's a picture of her honor scowling from the pages of DOM's blog.

ATL Legal blog has this story about a top law firm in Chicago, seeking a lawyer as an associate who graduated in the top 10% of their class, willing to work 70+ hours a week. "Salary commensurate with experience, but in the range of $25,000-$35,000.00 /yr."
REALLY?

25-35K a year for 70 hours a week? Are things that bad out there?

The Dolphins have released their tailgating rules. That assumes people will be going to the games. 2-14 can't be pretty.

Your two favourite lawyers- those wacky former feds-yes, we are talking about Guy "give me more" Lewis, and Michael "Billem up" Tein, are in the Herald again here. Seems their former clients, the Miccosukee tribe, has accused them and their former chairman of diverting 4 million dollars in fees from the tribe to their law firm. In exchange, the law firm represented two members of the tribe in a civil law suit resulting in a 1.3 million dollar judgment. As Joe Pesci famously said to Robert De Niro in Raging Bull "When you win you win. When you lose, you still win."  4 million for a traffic accident and they lost. As the song says in the new Miller lite commercial: "How do you like me now?" Not very much.

Another hot week in August almost done.
See You In Court.

Rumpole, pretty sure you read that herald article wrong. The state spends $1.54 a day for three meals a day for all 100,000 state inmates. That translates to 45 per month. about $550 a year. Budgets baby.

Chambers, Mr. Justice Milton Hirsch.

MJMH: Moneypenny! Ms. Moneypenny get in here and take some letters.
MM: Coming Mr. Justice.
MJMH: First. To Chief Justice John Roberts, Supreme Court Washington, DC. Dear John, sorry I missed you in Malta this summer. Perhaps next summer in Ireland? some nice golf there. If you get any flack from Scalia over health care in the fall, tell Nino I said I will come up there and get a bridge partner and beat his italian butt. Fondly, Milt.

Second: post this on all courtroom doors. To:All lawyers. Summer hours will shortly end. The following Monday after labor day court will begin promptly at 8:55 am. Gentleman lawyers will wear coats, ties, overcoats if needed. Lady lawyers will wear sensible shoes, skirts or professional pants suits and a light frock. signed, my initials.

Third:To Judge Brown: Dear Joel: Attached please find my proposed judicial assignments for the new year. its never too early to start, and I think you will find this an excellent use of judicial talent. Happy to help. Milt.

Fourth: To all criminal court judges: please remember to consult me before signing any warrants on warrant duty. My knowledge of the 4th amendment will save you plenty of litigation in the future, not to mention an embarrassing 3rd dca reversal. signed, my full name. No, strike that. My initials.

Fifth: Robert C Post, Dean, Yale Law School.
Rob: Please stop fooling around on the spring intercession evidence class that I will be teaching, re: the honorarium. What did Yale pay Einstein? I think I'm worth it. Otherwise, there's always Stanford, and as you know, I prefer the California weather in March anyway. Send that check soon. Best to your lovely wife. I loved the lobster pasta at Scozzi. Can't wait to return. signed, Milt.

Get those out Moneypenny, copy to the archives for my papers.

Verde was an idiot at the SAO, was an idiot as a defense attorney, and will be an idiot on the bench. But she's a nice girl and has a Hispanic name. Hooray for Miami Dade Justice.

Most of the people do not know that the Dade County Jails are charging $5.00 a day to each inmate, some of them may be waiting for more than 3 years to go to trial, at the end of all that time they will owe a large amount. Must of the them will not get money from the family for Commissary, because after a while they will only received 50 percent of the amount that a family member will deposit on their accounts. I understand about the Kosher food etc. but keep in mind that the regular food that the inmates are receiving is very poor and basic, no fresh vegetables hardly ever, no meat other than chicken patties and meat balls for dinner and lunch will always be a bologna and 1 slice of cheese sandwich. The diet for Medical conditions is just a make belief because the regular dinner of today, will be the diet of tomorrow, exactly the same items. The charges were $3.00 a day before, and the food was better, now after the increase is worse.
Also the prices for the Commisary items that they could purchase, if they had the money, are extremely expensive any item will cost 4 times as much compare to the regular price in the street.

Milton Hirsch is a disgrace to the legal community. Such a pompous idiot.

But Mr. Justice Milton Hirsch is a riot and a treasure to this blog.

The problem with the Dade County Jail is simply that when inmates put in their afternoon order for lattes and request splenda, the idiot barristas don't read the orders carefully and use sugar which ruins the drink if you don't want sugar. Then they pour it out which is a waste. Something should be done.

The envy directed at Milton by 523 and others is laughable. When you can write the way he can and acquire the culture that he has acquired by reading, learning and paying attention then maybe you can opine. In the meantime read what he wrote about Sy Gaer on the wall of the courthouse and tell wether he is a better person than you.

Envy, culture, reading, opining...

Milt

You are pathetic.

Seriously man, you need professional help. Get some.

Hmmmmm.
Herald says Judge Farina's wife is in trouble for double dipping by taking a salary from the county while working full time for the feds. Looks like Farina authorized it.

Now, Farina resigns in a rush to join JAMS.

Hmmmmm. Could this be yet another deal by the star chamber JQC to quit and no charges?

Inquiring minds want to know....Joe.....

Just because Hirsch may have a strong personality doesn't mean he's a bad judge. He runs his courtroom, has opinions about things because he is experienced (unlike many of recent candidates), but he does the right thing.

It doesn't surprise me about Michael Tein. I had a case with him many years ago where he did something improper (watched me go through the tribulations of a Nebbia and posting the bond when he then immediately indicted on a second case fully knowing, beforehand, that the family would be wasting that bond money).

Remember, you can't polish a turd.

Milt you are a breath of fresh air but don't let a bunch of haters get under your skin.

Judge Hirsch = Rumpole.

The fake Milt, like all of the fakes here, are witless and completely unfunny.

They're only outdone in inanity by shumie.

JAMS=Journal American Medical Association??

whoops that's JAMA. I will admit- lots of Avon tequila today/tonight. Plus lobster and fresh avocado. Just in that kinda mood.

Tein is one of the most unethical lawyers I have dealt with also. Let's hope just is finally served with him.

Anonymous said...

Rumpole- do you have children?

Rule Britannia

Anonymous said...

Wrong, wrong, wrong! The single most unethical lawyer ever is Jonathan Schwartz...the one who pretends to be jewish. Presently under suspension, he is super famous for misrepresenting just about everything he says.

Anonymous said...

Correct...forgot about Jonathan Schwartz. OK. So Tien is number 2 ....

Anonymous said...

How about Alan Soven?

Anonymous said...

Milt is as unethical as they come. He is fooling us all. Someday, though, everyone will realize this. Hopefully, it won't be at the expense of someone's life.

Judge Hirsch once AGAIN attempted to change the bond set by a judicial COLLEAGUE where he had absolutely no legal authority to do so; he plays dumb every single time he does this and everytime his colleagues reverse his decision, and despite caselaw directly on point and to the contrary; it is getting annoying....we really need to work on making Miami Dade a place where people are proud to live - not embarrassed by the intellectual dishonesty in some of our judiciary.
