THE JURY NOTE

Last week Bill Matthewman obtained a remarkable acquittal for his client in federal court. We wrote about it a few posts ago here.

Here is the aforementioned jury note that was written by the jury who requested that it be read after the verdict.

DSK COMPLAINING WITNESS SHOCKER!
As incredible as it seems, the NY Post is reporting that the hotel maid who claimed she was attacked by the former head of the IMF performed acts of prostitution while ensconced in a hotel by the Manhattan DA's office for weeks after the attack.

There is also word today that the woman has filed a libel lawsuit against the Post.

Miami used to get the good cases.

See You In Court.

Baez was down and out and now he's the top lawyer in the country. I love a rags to riches story.

The fact that Federal agencies like the DEA and FBI stick to a policy of not recording post-arrest statements is sad and scary. Why would the Feds not want to record a post arrest statement if, in fact, the Defendant was really and truly confessing?

Let me ask you a question- who is more famous? Casey Anthony or Michael Jackson?

Can you name the lawyer who obtained the acquittal for Michael jackson?

He is a very fine trial attorney.

My point is that Casey Anthony and her attorney will fade from view rather quickly. There's not much left for this story.

A few TV interviews and then some reality show crap and then nothing more and they will have to return to their sad, empty lives.

Wow, rumpolian, I have the feeling you knew Baez personally and have a thing or two with him. He did work at the Miami Dade Public Defenders office as did you?

What's the real story behind you and Baez... I'll wait.

Mesereau was jackson's lawyer. Every year he takes a bro bono death penalty case in the deep south. he began his career as a tax attorney. hes a great lawyer and very low key. shy's a way from the media. his name is hard to remember.

the casey anthony case is way bigger because it was murder one.

baez has a sad empty life? not anymore...

Who is the most Nancy Grace-esque in the courthouse?

Thomas Mesereau was MJ's lawyer. I believe he replaced Ben Brafman, who is DSK's lawyer now

That is a fascinating jury note. Sending notes asking questions before the verdict is pretty common, but a note to be read after the verdict???...not so much.
Quite a jury there.

Rumpole -

In the Casey Anthony hoopla we have forgotten to talk about the Miami Beach cop who has been accused of driving his department ATV under the influence of alcohol with a female passenger on the back whom he had met while abandoning his post to go to the Clevelander.

He hit two tourists and severely injured them.

Rumpole, stop being jealous and envious of Baez.

Although we did send several notes before the verdict was reached, we felt it necessary to alert the court as to the reason for 'reasonable doubt'.

Re: post acquittal note.

After a DUI trial of mine where the jury came back not guilty, the jury foreman asked Judge Ortiz if she could make a statement to the court and my client. The foreman said the jury thought my client was probably intoxicated, but the State had not proved it.

Once again, the jury got it right. They listened to and applied the law, but they saw through the crap, and told my client not to drive while drinking again.

Nice when you have an intelligent and thoughtful jury like the one that sent that note.
Cheers!

Strange to find Jarvis "spouting off" about a criminal trial lawyer.

He is a 'perfesser' of Admiralty and Maritime Law. That qualifies him to change the oil in my new car.

Thanks, Captain Ahab.

Now the Media is flaming passions by saying Cassie goes free today. Even the Atty pundits. We all know the ELECTED JUDGE will give her the Max and lecture her from the bench .

My point was pundits saying she will get CTS when all of us w/real experience know she was going to get the max. They, The Pundits were/are trying to inflame the public w/ she will go free w/ no punishment when it was HIGHLY unlikely at best and not going to be - if any true analysis was done.
