COUNTY COURT CASH

THE CAPTAIN REPORTS:

In the eleven County Court races, more than $2.73 million dollars was spent so far and there is still one runoff taking place in November. That brings the cost of the 16 contests in County and Circuit Court to a grand total of 3.87 million dollars.

I think it's time to go into a new business Rump (seeing as you are always complaining about the lack of clients); that being the political consulting business.

The biggest loser in County Court, Michael Samuels, who spent over $187,000 in his loss. The biggest winner, Don Cohn, who was outspent 3-1 by Bonnie Rippingille and still won.

Here are the numbers:

MARINO

Raised $116,108
Spent $91,200

MCWHORTER

Raised $115,838
Spent $103,556
------------------------------
FABER

Raised $204,489
Spent $174,384

HERNANDEZ

Raised $90,731
Spent $69,523

(Rumpole notes that what is doubly striking about this race is the amount of money Faber raised, and that facing a strong challenge, Judge Hernandez left 20 thousand in the barn and didn't even use it. )
------------------------------
del PINO

Raised $148,378
Spent $139,805

JACOBI

Raised $77,721
Spent $70,112
------------------------------------
ADDICOTT

Raised $23,630
Spent $21,549

PANDO

Raised $215,435
Spent $172,376

(Rumpole notes: Lesson: Don't mess with Pando.)
----------------------------------------
MILLS FRANCIS

Spent $113,063

MILLAN

Raised $153,750

------------------------------------------

Raised $76,475
Spent $60,714
LEIFMAN
Raised $271,217
Spent $199,922
(Rumpole says: Who da man? Leifman da man. Now that the election is over we are going back to calling him "Lord of the Traffic Magistrates.")

--------------------------------------------
GONZALEZ MEYER
Raised $123,905
Spent $108,647
SAMUELS
Raised $209,050

SHELLY SCHWARTZ

Spent $260,782
(Rumpole notes: Wow! Almost a half a million bucks was spent in this race.)
----------------------------------------------
ALVAREZ
Raised $149,398
Spent $133,071
MILLER
Raised $240,524
Spent $195,762

----------------------------------------------
COHN

Spent $47,435
RIPPINGILLE

Spent $128,017
(Rumpole notes: Not only is he a Judge elect, but Don Cohn is the author of the forthcoming book: "How to run for Judge and win on less than 50 thousand dollars.")
----------------------------------------------
CHAVEZ
Raised $20,505
Spent $19,550
BIENSTOCK
Raised $29,500
Spent $27,402

Great job Captain thanks for those numbers

whats even more shocking in the hernandez case, is the majority of the money he raised for his campaign was his own money (personal loans).

I hope his pension from the war as a vet will get him by for the next few years until his SSI checks start rolling is as he is 60 and if I am not wrong at 62 you get those SSI checks.

Statistics shown in at least one race are incorrect.
Sanchez Llorens raised/loaned total of 213,000 and spent 175,000
Schwartz raised/loaned 204,000 and spent 183,000

Please check your figures:
S.Schwartz raised and or loaned campaign as of end of August 204,000 and spent 183,000
Sanchez Llorens raised and or loaned 213,000 and spent 175,000

Joe Fernandez for Judge; better than the Bienstock

It does appear that, on the Schwartz numbers, the Elections depart. has listed the 8/31 report twice and added the money raised and expenditures twice, creating the discrepancy.

The actual report does read $204K raised and $183K spent.

Thank you

To the Don Shula/Gail lover...thank you for making my point. Don Shula would get crushed as a middle linebacker and Gail could not handle a C caseload. She rants and yells and has mucho tiempo. She is good at what she does...agreed, but she would not be capable of doing the job most prosecutors in that office do on a daily basis. Maybe that is why she pretends to be so mean?

Dandy Don Cohn won a job that's going to pay him 750,000 in salary and benefits over six years and spent less than 50 grand. He's my idol.

Is it true Stuart Mishkin and Carl Mecke are plotting to open a "SUPER CRIMINAL DEFENSE FIRM" that is going to flood the county with direct mailings, television, radio and billboard advertising?

STOP THE MONKEY BUSINESS.

To the 35 new ASA's per courtroom who are sitting around with nothing to do:

HEY CAPTAIN
what about votes? what races were a massive landslide and which ones were the tightest?

Anonymous said...

Saying Gail can't handle the C slot is ridiculous. Gail would kick your ass (and most people's asses) on any decent case. Hate her all you want (if you new her better you'd feel differently, but that's not the point), but don't begrudge her the fact that she is an outstanding trial lawyer.

Captain, please recheck your figures for the Marino-Pedraza and McWhorter race. The amount you listed for Judge McWhorter appears to be the exact same amount as the total expenditures for Judge Mary Jo Francis.

Migna spent all that money...and had a cool song...and still lost?
Miami did not love Migna at all.

Anonymous said...

I really got into the whole Migna scene. I'm sorry she lost. Wait till next year!!!!

Alan...something's not right.

I don't know why anyone would expect anything more from Gale Levine. She tries to kill people for a living. She is just like Sadaam Hussein in that she tries to use the force of the government to murder those who she does not believe should live. Time for a little regime change. By the way...I am opposed to the death penalty, and all other forms of State Sponsored Murder.

I was just kidding in the last post, by the way

To 5:21:09 PM your an idiot. Get a life, a real job, make some money and lose the cynicism. You are one of those lawyers that thinks you are the best there is and everyone else sucks. It's a job idiot get over it.

Anonymous said...

yeah idiot, get over it. then pack the bowl, lil buddy and fly away

I am a defense attorney.

I have no problem with the death penalty.

Gail Levine can kill you with her comments and looks.

Boy is she mean!

I think the SAO can find murder prosecutors who are human.

Anonymous said...

Okay dumb shit- the new ASA's don't read this blog!

Just goes to show. Money cannot buy an election--even in corrupt Dade County.

Don El Cojon may be in there, but he will never repeat. You can bet on that.
