Bern Your Enthusiasm

The Super Bowl is over. We called most of it right, including the dead-lock coin toss prediction, and advising you to take Denver and the money line, although we didn't watch one lick of it.

REGJB wise last week, we saw the man labeled as the facebook killer for posting pictures of his wife's body on facebook get life in prison. As the late Judge Morphonious once said, "and may he serve every day of it."

And last week the tragic case of Michael Hernandez was back in court. Hernandez, a juvenile at the time of the offense,  had his new sentencing hearing last week as the Supreme Court said the law now requires. Any juvenile must be sentenced with a meaningful opportunity for release. Judge Schlessinger made a quick return to the REGJB for the hearing before skedaddling back to civil.

It's Monday and time to get crackin, but as our favourite federal blogger does from time to time, we leave you with a Monday morning moment of Zen: Bern Your Enthusiasm.

Rump -

Very conflicted over the Michael Hernandez resentencing. When he was 14, he committed an atrocious act of violence that nobody can fathom. Was he crazy? Was he just plain evil? Who knows. But...he was just a boy himself.

When I was 14 I may have been a troublemaker but I knew right from wrong. And no matter how stupid or immature I may have been, I would have never done to another classmate what Michael Hernandez did to Jaime Gough.

Now, at 26, has Hernandez changed? Is he in the process of changing? Should he be held accountable for the rest of his natural life for something he did at 14?

I find myself going back and forth on this issue. Interested to hear how others feel about it.

Thanks for your suggestions, but I stayed with my gut and bet Denver and took the Under. So I won twice. And, with my parlay, I get 2,600 for my G.

That game was going under, under, under all day long.

Wise guys had the Broncos; the public lost a bundle on the Panthers.

Why is it so hard for people to fathom that evil exists & that it can manifest itself in 14 year olds or other aged juveniles? What about justice for Jaime Gough? When will Jaime Gough's parents have a meaningful opportunity of release from the vicious and unprovoked loss of their boy?

Fake President of the Innocence Project here, lifelong Death Penalty opponent and fake husband to Sr. Helen Prejean, but Michael Hernandez should be put down with a firing squad on 12th Avenue.

I believe that evil can manifest itself in 14 year old kids. It can manifest itself in children much younger. I just have trouble accepting the fact that one should pay with their life for the misdeeds of their youth, no matter how atrocious.
