Ranck has four blog entires on his involvement on the case beginning here.
Part IV of his blog entry on the case contains an insider's view of how the SAO and US Attorneys Office get along. Interesting stuff.
OK people, have at it.
When you see something that is not right, not fair, find a way to get in the way and cause trouble. Congressman John Lewis

I know this is off topic, but I'm here in the rain at Bethpage at the Skaaden Arps Hospitality tent doing this on my hospitality new Palm Treo.
Steve Stircker is perhaps the best ball striker on tour.
Had some beers last night with old timers who brought up the old controversy of Palmer's caddy directing a tour volunteer to move Arnie's ball in the final round at the 13th in Oakmont.
That famous footage of the caddy apparently gesturing to 16 year old Darren Blaine to the area in the rough where the TV footage shows the shot landing behind a tree with no clear shot to the green. A few moments after gesturing, the caddy locates the ball, and somehow in deep deep rough the ball bounced enough to give Arnie a clean shot at the green. Of course Arnie still lost to Nicklaus, but still the controversy lingers. Any thoughts?
I like Weir to bring home this Open- he's a mudder. But don't count out lefty. Mickelson is within striking distance and we may be here through Tuesday.
Thanks to Skaaden who uses me of counsel in Miami to do their admiralty Peabody hearings work. It pays the bills Rump.
David Ovalle should have checked with a lawyer or the rule book before writing the article. He says:
"But the clock was ticking because her right to a speedy trial within six months began upon her December arrest for the underlying offense: armed robbery.
Usually, defendants waive that right so defense attorneys can prepare for trial. In this case, the charges were dropped before that happened.
The final cutoff for Carr's trial to have begun was June 2. But she was not found until June 5, when police arrested her near Miami Shores.
Prosecutors expect her to move to dismiss the case because of the speedy trial issue. But they believe they have grounds to convince a judge otherwise"
The 175-day speedy trial expired on May 28 not June 2, as Ovalle wrote.
What grounds will the state argue to convince a judge not to dismiss this case on speedies?
I would say Stricker's real strength is in moving the ball from left to right on his tee shots and iron approaches to the green. That's why I think he is a real favorite to bring this open home.
That old Arnie stuff is pure bs.
Bill Altfield has tried probably 50 or more jury trials. He has been involved in hundreds of serious investigations. To my knowledge Tamara Gray has not been inside a courtroom since she left county court over 20 years ago.
ANd SHE gets her name sent to the Governor and Bill does not. THIS STINKS. WHAT IS THE JNC THINKING?????
People, get over it, the JNC could care less how many cases a lawyer has tried. Isn't that obvious?
You wanna get into golf conspiracies and more specifically US Open Conspiracies? Then how does Joey Sindelar lead the US Open after a round at Baltursol in 1993 and NOT make the cut after Friday? And Lee Janzen wins it? Really- and Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. Right.
I'd much prefer talk about Shumie time then weird golf conspiracies.
11:20 a.m. is 100% correct. See Marie Jo Toussaint.
David O'Valle has too many bylines, he's too busy producing to worry about getting the story right.Come on, it's The Herald.
Does Mary Jo Toussaint even know where the courthouse is and what a courtroom looks like? She has no business even submitting her name to the JNC.
Do you ever notice that the people on the JNC are really not in a position to know who's who in regards to legal careers? I know it is probably not good to have too much of an insider get involved because of inevitable and unavoidable pre-judgements but the people on the JNC seem very far removed from what they are appointing the people for.
How some are ignored and others are considered is puzzling.
Bill would make a great Judge and deserves the nod.
have you read all of ranck's blog. it sure is an interesting read: lots about his sao love life, his sao cases, his obsession with china and liberalism. captivating
Anonymous at 10:14 said that "David Ovalle should have checked with a lawyer or the rule book before writing the article in today's Miami Herald about former prosecutor David Ranck.
I agree that a lawyer should have been consulted before the Herald published Ovalle's flawed, biased and one-sided article defaming Ranck while ignoring the minutely detailed explanations contained in blog-posted articles to which the reporter made only passing reference.
Unfortunately, this kind of unfair and sloppy journalism is showing up all too frequently in the Herald of late.

I have always said the appointment process is back room politics at its best. Between the JNC and the Gov, its all done behind closed doors. I like public elections where the dirty linen can be aired in public.
That aside, I have worked with both Lourdes Simon and Tammy Gray a lot over the years. I think they both would be good on the County Bench.

Margot Moss is also a hell of an attorney. She would also be good on the bench. I should have mentioned her in my last post.

Everybody talk about Katherine Fernandez, but not one about Jorge Espinosa, the former police officer who shoot a boy unarmed three times in his back and beat him without mercy. This boy did not have a criminal record contrary to Jorge Espinosa that at the time of the murder counted with a history of police brutality. He was also investigated for trespassing with his police uniform some residences to steal. I’m not exaggerating or creating anything, I’m talking about facts and I can prove it.
Even if Leonardo Barquin was doing something wrong, he had the right to live and this police officer the responsibility to arrest him, so a judge could determine if he was guilty or not. But justice sometime is betrayed and perverted by some unscrupulous people as this former police officer.
Jorge Espinosa is a violent and unscrupulous man who does not know about limits. After “he left” the Police Department and with a murder in his back and as I mentioned a record of police brutality, this man was able to run for a seat in the Florida House of Representatives. When I found out this, I went to one of the Polling House and to my surprise he was there. At the beginning he was laughing at me, but far a way, but with a cynical smile in his face he approached to me and took pictures of me, probably to intimidate me. But definitely he didn’t know that the love of a mother exceed any type of intimidation or fear.
At first I was skeptical about the “Blue Code” in the Police Department, but not anymore since every time I have seen in the news that a police killed a person, the investigation concluded that the shoot was justified. The translation to the “Blue Code” is corruption and we with our silence are allowing this few people to corrupt our justice system.
Katherine Fernandez-Rundle won’t be all her life the prosecutor of Miami, but unfortunately I think we need to way until she leaves her office for justice returns to Miami. I think that David Ranck is a prosecutor that believes in the justice system of this country and I would like to have his faith, and one day see Jorge Espinosa paying for his crime. I’m Leonardo Barquin’s mother, a boy that with only 17 years old was graduated from High School. He was looking for a University to enroll. He had a lot of plans, a future that was killed with him by a murder dress with a police uniform. I’ll love him forever and will fight for justice the rest of my life if it’s necessary.

can we get a judge who is over 40 and who has worked in private practice ( small firm or solo ) for like 10 years? please no more 35 year old women from the pd or state, and nobody who is not taking a 50% pay cut please, pretty please!
More golf conspiracies for this blog. Thank you.
Doesn't anyone on this blog understand that this is another Barbara Lagoa? The fix was in for Perez from the moment she applied. Everyone else on that list is just filler. That is why the most qualified people interviewed did not get out.
Most of the nominees are very nice people. A couple are even qualified, but they don't have a hope.
10:34 You ask too much. You are asking for things like experience, perspective, legal knowledge, demeanor, a desire to serve not to be serviced and will command respect. Just accept that the names on the JNC may change, but the BS continues. The members are too dedicated to an agenda to be able to objectively select the best 6.
David Ovalle is an idiot, plain and simple. He simply prints ANYTHING the SAO feeds him, this is what we call journalism?
Hello, I am a writer and am currently doing research on the Jorge Espinosa case, which has been returned to the Miami Dade Police Department by the Fire Fraud task force of the Department of Financial Services. I'm looking for any information I can find, especially contact information for Beatriz Louis Garcia or other involved in the case. ANY INFORMATION or insight's would be most helpful,,,please email Scottydog@nettally.com. Thx
