Holiday Madness

Good morning. It was 58 degrees at 5AM this morning and 60 degrees at 6AM.

A Wal Mart temporary employee in Nassau County, NY, was trampled to death on Black Friday shortly after crowds pushed down the doors at 4:55 AM. Crowds had been lining up to get into the Wal Mart as early as 9Pm the night before.

The title of the post links to the story. The last line is sure to be a boon for the wrongful death case:

"Lieutenant Fleming said that the store “could have done more” to prevent the melee.

“I’ve heard other people call this an accident, but it’s not,” he said. “This certainly was foreseeable.” "

Rumpole says: this is madness. Don't people have anything better to do than leave their Thanksgiving dinner to go stand in line at a store throughout the night just to get in a 5AM and get an extra 10% off some dopey gift? A man lost his life to this greed and excess. Enough is enough.

Horrible! What you missed, Rump, is that when police tried to clear the store, a woman refused because she had been "in line for a day a wanted to shop!" Also, EMT and police were knocked down when they tried to help the injured empolyee.
This "doorbuster" madness must stop.

Many big box stores sell the same items online on Black Friday so one need not go to the mall madness the day after Thanksgiving. How tragic for the families and right before the holidays.
Wait-- there is still Boxing Day madness to prepare for.
(BTW Rump I am exhausted and sore in places I never thought existed. The princess says hello)

Well defense lawyer for the princess, to borrow a name from a faithful blog reader: Been there- done that.

Happy Thanksgiving.

The media over hypes Black Friday. Out in Glendale California, some store owners opened their doors at 12AM. I have never been to a Black Friday sale but if anyone has, are the deals really that good?

A person dies and for what - to save a couple of measly bucks. Sheesh!!!!

9:13, I agree- a tragedy. Senseless but a tragedy,

Customers camping out in the wee hours of the morning literally dying to get their hands on a "dopey gift marked 10% off?"(Similar to a caged animal. You let an animal out of its' cage after a few hours what do you expect is going to happen?)

5:45-- What exactly did WalMart have for their "doorbuster?" Bounty paper towels "5 for 75 cents?"

9:13 - I tried shopping on line last Boxing Day. The only problem they have a limited number of items for sale. For example a 42" plasma screen -75%, ONLY three were available. I called up the store, the store ONLY had two for the entire city of Miami and people were lined up for hours because the store advertised this item as their door crasher. They failed to mention how many were in stock.

Whatever happened to the wine-swilling party animal that Rumpole claimed to be? Now, he is keeping a Miami temperature log like my grandfather used to do in Nebraska for the last thirty years of his life. What's the barometric pressure in Miami today?

Must be the same dopey people who attended Ben's fundraiser. Were you the one standing in line with a drumstick in your mouth?

Black Friday- a day of mourning for the family.
The sad part of it all it will probably happen again on Boxing day.

The new Pinecrest Best Buy was empty tonight- I'm glad I waited until after the madness of Black Friday to go for a visit.
