MEMBER'S ONLY-NOT YET

In an effort to counter the anonymous snipping that has infected the blog to the point where we have lost valuable readers and comments, we are considering trying OPENID as a way of requiring people to post a comment with an ID.

What does this mean?

If you already have a Google Account, and AOL account, or one of several other accounts, click above to see, you will have to enter that account to post a comment.

Anonymous comments: We believe anonymous comments serve a purpose. When a Judge habitually shows up late, or acts improperly in court, the litigants cannot always openly raise the issue for discussion for obvious reasons. Therefore, if a problem arises, there have been times when anonymous comments on the blog have helped raise and then resolve the issue.

However, before we take that drastic step, we are going to try something else first: we will now screen comments more carefully, and we will not always announce when we are not posting a comment.

Call someone a jerk or attack their ethics, and unless you are willing to do so using your real name and have information to support your charge, we will not post the comments. Basically, if you want to make sure a comment is published, use your name from an Open ID account.

OPEN ID

Censorship? You bet. Our blog. Our rules.

However, we will NOT censor based on political or ideological beliefs, merely on courtsey and decency.

You can still advocate for the presidential candidate or judicial candidiate of your choice, and we promise not to censor those comments.

How will you know for sure? You won't. This is the price we all pay for the level of mean and nasty comments that a small minority of readers have infected the blog with.

Write your comment and see. We hopes this brings back readers who used to comment and write their names. All we can say is give us a chance. We will work hard not to let you down.

Kindly act accordingly.

See You In Court.

ps. Our apologies to Judge Mills-Francis. We could not post your picture yesterday as the Blogger picture function went, to use a technical computer term, "kablooey". Blogger is working on resolving this problem.

Interesting idea Rump. However, I won't be around to see how it works.

Rumpole;
I have this reoccurring nightmare. It is next Saturday around ten minutes after noon, and Roger Godell walks to the podium and says

"with the first pick in the 2008 NFL Draft the Miami Dolphins select......
WILBUR MIDDLETON PUNTER EAST TENNESSEE STATE."

And then a few minutes later the GM meets the media and says "We didn't just draft Wilbur, we drafted the whole Middleton family. And when Wilbur recovers from his double hernia, ACL/MCL replacement surgery and his leukemia goes into remission, he is going to be a heck of a punter for the Dolphins for years to come."

Help me Rump. I wake up screaming at night.

Sorry- I forgot to switch back to regular comments. I strongly encourage people to sign up with open ID because if the comments don't become relevant and stop being so mean I will just switch one day and you don't want to be caught with your open ID down. Do you?

Open ID won't make a difference because anyone can get a bunch of ID's or screen names in those services.

Does this open id procedure mean you are the only one who knows the writer's identity? Because there is still no identity known when a writer's "name" is 'jbblogger','can't sleep' or 'captain'. Please explain for those of us who are new at this what is accomplished by an ID name that is created anonymously?

Open ID is not a requirement and may never be one if people play nice.

I do not and will not know the identity of anyone even if they use open ID.

While I understand people can get an Open ID account with not using their name, and indeed I encourage people to do that as long as they are not breaking any law, I can more easily ban an open ID account if they start acting up.

DRAFT NEWS: One report this morning that the Ravens are now so desperate to get Matt Ryan, and they are so concerned about Ryan going to KC that they are seriously proposing a trade with the Fins, and the Fins get the number 8 slot, along with the host of other picks that equals the number one pick. One can only hope the Ravens make the offer, because the Fins will accept.

What happened to the left-handed link that was devoted to the election? It was so easy to get the goop on the poop in the wonderful world of politics,

I recall Rumpole was dazed that Judge Cohn spent $50-K against the incumbents $250-K and won.

How did that happen? He is male and she was female. Miami favors female candidates. So what happened?

County Court Judge Group 40
Don S. Cohn Active Elected NOP $51,920.00 $2,675.00 $51,920.00

County Court Judge Group 40
Bonnie Lano Rippingille Active Defeated NOP
$261,805.16 $7,041.78 $257,147.76

"if people play nice"

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha bhahahahahahaha

Controversial? Fine. Mean spirited and hurtful to another person? No.

That being said, I did not publish an obvious attempt at humor mentioning another person and his childrend and a jewish holiday dinner, because I have no idea if the other person takes the comment in the spirit it was intended.

If you take anonymity from the blog, no one is going to post a thing, controversial or not.

why is that 4:12. I mean, I know why, but I'd like to hear it from you. Does it have anything to do with how pathetic we all are?

Anonymous said...

anyone running against rundle? i hear that neanderthal al millian is making too much cash as a defense attorney that he aint interested

9:30,
Different Anon here.
It has nothing to do with how pathetic we are.

Anonymity provides us with the ability to speak freely without the fear of repercussion based on what we say. In the society that we live in, unfortunately, we are often 'forced' into behaviours and speech that conforms with the norms of society.

Even if I, as a defense attorney, had a legitimate issue with a state attorney and addressed it publicly using my name, do you think all the other sate attorneys are going to want to deal with me?

If I complain about the way a judge handles her courtroom, what will happen to me the next time I have a case in there?

If I use my name to argue for the min/mans in a trafficking case, how will I be able to take a different point of view when my client is facing those charges.

The only pathetic people are those who are baseless in their accusations and belittle others to make themselves more important.

Rumpy, good luck with this, playing nice seems to be an on-again/off-again thing....

10:30, people are not anonymous because of your reasons on THIS blog. They are anonymous because they don't want to be trashed just because someone sees their name. It doesn't matter what people say. If John Doe says "it's Monday," the next 5 responses are that John Doe cant try a case, something about their past, something about their distant past, or something untrue that just sounds juicy.
