RUTH CHRIS SHOULD FAST AND ATONE

Ruth Chris's steakhouse, a moderately decent steakhouse chain tried to be a little creative with it's Ann Arbor, Michigan restaurant. It offered a promotion to reduce the bill for a meal for the week following the Michigan-Rutgers game this past Saturday based on the score differential. So for example, if Michigan won by 10 points, diners would get a ten percent reduction in their bill.

Michigan shutout  Rutgers  78-0 Saturday!

The restaurant, which quickly sold out for this week, is falling back on the small print which apparently limited their reduction to 50%.  Bad press has ensued. They would have been much better to honor their word, and make a donation to a local homeless shelter to boot. The free publicity would far outweigh their losses for a week.  It's overpriced anyway.

Over/under on the first lawsuit being filed?

Weird week. Court's closed Monday. Many lawyers and judges out Wednesday for Yom Kippur- the holy day of atonement for our readers of the Jewish faith.

See you in court.

The Ren (a venue) wanted to do that for the dolphins and canes margins of victory, alas, there were none and dinners were indeed obligated to pay more. As a promotion it didn't work out very well.

Good steak. Too much butter on the plate. Stick with the lamb

Ruth's Chris in Coral Gables is second rate. Morton's and Capital Grille. And what is with those small plates they use.

Ruth's Chris is the Sizzler of "high-end" steakhouses. I used to go there in college when I could scrape together a few bucks and convince myself I had class.

If you are going to go with the chain steakhouses, Morton's and Fleming's are by and large superior restaurants. If you're going to spend $60 for a NY strip anyway, might as well have quality with better menu options.

If you want the best, Ireland's in the Bonaventure Hotel in Weston is the undisputed champion. I recommend the Wagyu strip, locally raised (Clewiston), a bottle of the Greg Norman pinot noir, and the pork belly appetizer.

Not a word over the Trump tape....

From Slate:

During the Booth/Payne era, victim impact statements were a liberal bĂȘte noire: They were seen to inject emotion into the sentencing proceeding, allowing the sentence to be swayed by passion instead of reason, thereby creating “cruel and unusual” inconsistencies in sentencing. But in recent years, these statements have become a favored tool in sexual assault cases for progressives who believe the courts are too lenient on sexual offenders. The constitutional problems with such statements seem, on the left, to have taken a back seat to the overwhelming (though understandable) urge for punishment.

I did not know much about Judge Fleur Lobree. I am a civil court lawyer. I recently read about her vast background and love of the law. I saw that she battled breast cancer.

I feel bad know that I didn't get more involved in her campaign. It does not seem fair that she is not on the bench. I'm sorry Judge Lobree. You are most deserving. I hope that you get another chance. I am wishing you well.
