PROSECUTOR OF THE YEAR

Congratulations to ASA Marie Mato and  (new) USDC Judge Darrin Gayles who were honored Saturday night with the Prosecutor of the Year award and Justice Award respectively by the League of Superheroes  Justice Prosecutors.  We were remiss in not posting this Friday or Saturday.  Of course we were not invited, but we still think that the League and the award serve important purposes.

Many judges and criminal defense attorneys are ex-prosecutors. We often hear people talk of their experiences while prosecutors, and many times they talk about the story of the case they dismissed because they believed the defendant to be innocent. It gets so difficult in the heat of battle, especially when dealing with a contentious and perhaps even obnoxious opposing counsel to keep your eye on the ball- which is doing justice. The best of prosecutors do this, and a dinner awarding judges and prosecutors who seek justice is a good thing. Marie Mato has won some high profile cases this year and she is a very good prosecutor. But it is her reputation among the judiciary and defense bar as a prosecutor who is fair and honest and will always listen and do the right thing that makes this award especially appropriate.

Last week also brought the good news that Scotland voted NO on seceding from the United Kingdom.  We've spent most of our adult life trying to get UK citizenship and an entire country wants to renounce theirs?  We don't get it.

The Nations not so blessed as thee,
must in their turns to tyrants fall
whilst thou shall flourish great and free
the dread and enemy of them all

Rule Britannia!
Britannia rules the waves
Britons never never never shall be slaves

Have a great week. We will.
See You In Court.

Marie is not only a great, honest, kind prosecutor, she is also a wonderful human being! There aren't enough words to describe her. Her family is also very wonderful! It is with sadness though that I remember when her father passed away...
Having been to the League of Prosecutors dinner this past saturday, Marie in her speech, remembered everyone who has been there with her, in making her into the prosecutor she is today. Her speech was a clear example of who she is-- selfless, caring, pure and kind! Congrats Marie!

A very well-deserved honor for Marie. She is exceptional in and out of the courtroom, and a really great person.

Did Kenny W get an award at the Prosecutors' Dinner? I had heard that he was up for the 49ers Prize for 2014? No? Oh, the Humanity!

This NFL suicide pool is making me thirsty!

Anybody remember the Fins final drive of the first half? The one that ended with a field goal? 8 plays 74 yards in 1:35. Six short passes, a Taneyhill run, and the field goal. They had and used one time out. The longest pass was seven yards, (not including the yards after catch). Not one attempt to throw the ball for ten, fifteen, or twenty yards.

Compare that to the Broncos.

But Manning pulled Denver even with stunning precision, going 80 yards in just 41 seconds and without any timeouts capped by Tamme getting behind K.J. Wright in coverage for a touchdown with 18 seconds left.

How poor was the time management for the Fins in that final drive. How poor was the play calling in throwing so many short passes and making no attempt to advance the ball further down the field.

Is it the OC or do the Fins not have any confidence in Taneyhills ability to throw it down field.

Jury selection in new Rolle trial. Repeat of fireworks from last time?

We should all give good prosecutors, judge judges and good JA's credit when due.

I have two ASA's I like:
Jessie Friedman and Maggie Gerson. Both fair, honest, polite and worthy of trust.

Personally I think Lenard and Rothenberg should take home the award year in and year out.

I'm surprised Marie is not on the bench by now. Maybe it speaks to her dedication to public service.

Kenny's early exit from survivor pool is clearly getting to him. He was at Fridays on ocean drive yesterday string by himself overheard to be ordering the flank steak. And prime 112 is just down the road. The mighty have fallen.

You should stop with the kenny comments. Everyone who is close to him knows he is facing a serious issue with his Uro-mys-sistisis. It flared up again as he was in a public garage and couldn't find a rest room. #prayforkenny.

Elena Doyle is as good as I've seen in years. Smart, fair efficient and affable.

The Dolphins suck. Top to bottom. Philbin left his balls in Green Bay, Tannyhill is not the answer, the defense is merely ordinary and cannot help an offense that is inept. Four wins is but a a dream, but knowing the Fish they will win 6 and not get a top 3 pick.
