Why is Ronald Wilson Reagan our 2nd favourite President? Simple. It was - as Sarah Palin likes to note- his life long adherence to the conservative values that made our country great that endear him most to us.
What were those conservative values? Glad you asked! We will list them for you:
Item: As a new Governor of California, Regan signed into law the largest tax increase in the history of California and the largest (at that time) tax increase of any State in the Union.
Item: As a conservative right to life candidate, Governor Reagan signed into law in California the most liberal abortion laws in the nation at that time, securing for women the right to an abortion in a clean doctor's office by a competent doctor.
Item: As a fiscal conservative Ronald Reagan raised taxes as President 6 out of the 8 years he was in office.
Item: As a staunch defender of the United States, Ronald Reagan secretly negotiated with the terrorist sponsoring nation of Iran and the Muslim extremists who ruled Iran.
Item: President Reagan believed in balanced budgets (and frequently asked for a constitutional amendment requiring them) but he never submitted one (though President Clinton did.)
Item: As a conservative, President Reagan signed the 1986 Immigration reform act which granted millions of illegal aliens amnesty and citizenship.
Item: As an espouser of strong American "family values", Ronald Wilson Reagan became our first and only President who had been divorced and remarried before assuming office.
See where we're going with this?
Ronald Reagan did have conservative values. After enacting the steepest tax increases in the history of California when he took office (because he was surprisingly faced with an enormous budget deficit that the prior Governor had mostly hidden) Reagan organized a repeal of the tax hike two years later and provided the first Government rebate in the history of California when the economy recovered and the state ran a surplus. Reagan gave the money he taxed back to the people when the Government didn't need it for an emergency. Sort of like the Bank Bailouts that Obama supported that have mostly been repaid with interest. But Obama is no Reagan: Obama hasn't raised taxes consistently nor has he sought amnesty for illegal aliens.
It is popular these days for ultra-conservative right wing fundamentalists to bandy about Reagan as a role model for a conservative president. But what Reagan was, more than a conservative, was like his first political hero-FDR- a pragmatist. Reagan had a deep and abiding love for his country and what he wanted more than anything else- even when he knowingly broke the law with the Iran-Contra fiasco- was to see this country succeed. That was why he raised taxes when he needed to; that is why he was friends with his philosophical opposite- Speaker Tip O'Neill; that is why he negotiated with the Soviets and radical Muslim sponsors of terrorism- he did what he thought would benefit America first, and was faithful to his conservative philosophy second.
If you have any questions about the facts we've listed, Google them, individually or as a whole. These are known facts about our 40th President. Our purpose is to have Reagan's actions honestly viewed and understood. We cringe when Regan's record is conveniently changed into what neo-conservatives (who don't even know the basic facts of Reagan's life like where he was born or raised) want them to to be.
Longtime and careful readers will well remember our listing of the greatest presidents of the US and our identification of Theodore Roosevelt as our favourite President.

State’s top elderly advocate removed from job
.By Carol Marbin Miller and Michael Sallah

After years of fighting for the protection of nursing-home residents, Florida’s top advocate for elderly people was abruptly canned Monday by Gov. Rick Scott amid longstanding conflict over the group’s role in helping thousands of frail elders.
Brian Lee, director of the Florida Long-term Care Ombudsman Program, was ousted from a job he held for seven years just weeks after requesting that the state’s 677 nursing homes reveal detailed information on ownership stakes.

The largest government building in Washington DC, home to more bureaucrats than any other building, is named after Reagan.
Forget about Silent Charlie! We now have Silent Rumpy who refuses to comment on Arnie's deceptive ways. At least it's not just your football picks that stink.
I will comment on the comment left by the attorney about the acquittal of his client based on a "fictitious" . third party upon whom he apparently based his defense. Despite appearances to the contrary I don't just write these posts while waiting to take off in my NetJet flight. Some writing takes time and thought.
PS- Like any tout, I have good runs and bad. However, I have done something I don't believe anyone else has ever done- publicly picked games every week through the Super Bowl for two years and consistently won. Since then- the last two years I have, to coin a phrase- returned to earth- with some winning streaks and some losing streaks. But you can't take away what I did. Being on the high wire in public takes guts. Thus, my anonymity.
Ronald Reagan never mentioned AIDS until he was directly questioned about it in his second term, and he never gave a public statement on the epidemic until 1987, when 20,000-30,000 people had already died from it. Later, the president was advised not to say that children couldn't catch AIDS from casual contact. Members of the Reagan inner circle attacked Surgeon General C. Everett Koop for encouraging sex education and condom use. The CDC was underfunded and there was never a comprehensive plan for dealing with the epidemic.
Don't forget that his son with his second wife was a ballet dancer (not that there's anything wrong with that.)

Wait a minute.
I was an ASA in 1983. Reagan was prez. I am no fan of the Gipper.
He wouldn't fund SallieMae. We all were in a big mess cuz we had huge (not by today's standards) student loan debts and no loan consolidation.
Thanks Ronnie! You really made my life difficult.
And I admire that about you Rumpy.
So, now, some predictions:
1. Will the HEAT make it to the NBA finals this year?
2. Will the Fins draft a QB or trade for one?
Cap Out
When did this blog stop being about our trials and tribulations at the REGJB and start being a Michael Moore extremist left-wing attack rag?
Please bring back the blog that gave pertinent information and the occasional chuckle, not this.
The Heat will make it to the Finals this year! Though Rumpy will never admit it!
The State Attorney's and Public Defender's office will be turned into a wheel system where private attorneys willing to take cases will be paid $69 per prosecution or defense. I have formed a committee of traffic attorneys chaired by Hidnert and Hanna to implement this system. Chief Justice Milton Hirsch has already approved this exciting concept to save money to the taxpayers of Florida.
Ill take the 69 dollars! I just had a fight with the JAC to get paid 54 dollars an hour! This is why I don't do these anymore. How much more can they cut!
Brian Lee should hire an attorney to review his rights or remedies under the state's whistleblower statute or the Federal Qui Tam statute. If Mr. Lee assist in exposing a fraud he could be entitled to a percentage of the money he saves the government.
