"Success has many Fathers, but failure is an orphan."
John F. Kennedy. (original attribution unknown.)

This just in: Rumor is that the Miami Chapter of the FACDL will be filing a lawsuit based on the 8th Amendment’s prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment, seeking an injunction prohibiting the Dolphins from playing, and if they play, prohibiting any media coverage of the game whatsoever.

On a serious note, many criminal practitioners know the difficulty of representing a Defendant in Federal Custody who is housed in the “SHU”. The special housing unit is a close confinement area where the most difficult and potentially dangerous individuals being held pre-trial are kept. Now comes word that the Bureau of Prisons has decided that to discipline the worst of the worst- to discipline the inmates in the SHU, the BOP will force those incorrigible inmates to watch the seven games the Dolphins have played this year.

If the Concorde still flew, it would be theoretically possible for the Dolphins, who play in London next week, to play the game and arrive at home before they actually lose.

Dolphins Coach Cam Cameron gave a speech recently where he said things were looking up for the Dolphins. Earlier in the week, the Dolphins welcomed as their new speechwriter the guy who used to write Bush’s speeches on Iraq.

Actually, Huizenga offered the State Department to have the Dolphins make a quick stop in Iraq to cheer up the troops. General Petraeus responded by saying

“What, things aren’t depressing enough over here?”

How bad are things for the Dolphins? Michael Vick sent them a message before Sundays game telling them to cheer up.

Things are so bad that the entire Broward Judiciary is embarrassed for the Dolphins.

The biggest hit Zach Thomas had all day was when he wrecked his car on the way home from the game. (True story and no one was hurt.)

Now that we’ve got that out of our system, we can return to the REGJB topics.

Rump, stop being a typical fins fan and tell the full story - all is not bad - in fact, on miamidolphins.com they have begun what they refer to as a "mid-season sale." Some sale items are further reduced another 25%.

All is not lost.

It's Zach. Spelling counts.

THE CAPTAIN REPORTS:

PUBLIC DEFENDER ....

It is true that, in the past three elections, Brummer has filed very early for reelection.

In 2004, he filed 18 months before election day.

In 2000, it was 19 months and in 1996, it was 16 months before the election that he filed.

We are 54 weeks away from the 2008 General Election and no one has filed to run for the Office of the Public Defender.

... and to 6:24 pm, I'll let you all know some answers when the time is right; (and I happen to like Warren's bowtie; my father used to wear a bowtie).

CAPTAIN OUT .....

Your father probably did not look like Oswald Cobblepot inhis bowtie!

The plan is for "carlo" to file at the last second so that he "cat walks" to become Public Defender.

No need for a cat fight when you are in the cat bird seat.

I haven't read in a few days but in catching up, here's a few things that concern me - and should concern you...

What is with the anti-semetic BS that's being posted about the administration of the PD's office? I guess the source should be considered...

What probably doesn't "concern" Rumpole or the writers of the drivel is the following:

I have never heard ANYONE say that Carlos is disliked. As a matter of fact, most people truly like AND respect him for his work here at the office. He is excellent at the legislative affairs that he handles, he is excellent at dealing with Tallahassee, and he knows more about all of those topics than anyone I have ever met.

Rory Stein is a brilliant legal authority and those who bash him are nothing more than jealous and bitter which makes them pathetic.

To whoever is writing all the crap; whether it's "3rd floor PD", or someone else, please run for PD. No one here is afraid of that. It will only make the party after the election that much sweeter - as it was the last time.

Rump:

Never knew you were a fan of Dim Sum. Can we find you at Tropical Chinese on Bird Road? FYI: Mr. Chu's on South Beach has great dim sum - Tropical Chinese quality without the line of people waiting on the weekends.

Thought you might like to know.

Why do people keep writing to the Blog and wondering out loud why some candidates don't file for reelection 15 years before the election in question?

Captian, Get a life!

Dim Sum in Miami is like Aroz con Pollo in San Francisco (I know I spelled it wrong) It's just not the same. Pizza in NYC. Dim Sum in San Fran. Hot dogs in Chicago. The way things ought to be.

I agreed with you up until that...

The last time Rory entered the court house, the pd's office was in it. Don't you think he might be a bit rusty??

I'm gonna give the leg up to Captain on this issue. After all, he is the blogs legislative chair.

To 9:02 a.m., it's "anti-semitic" (with an "i"). What are you talking about? Is Carlos Martinez jewish?

Additionally, thank you for giving me the best laugh I've had all year. Rory Stein--a brilliant legal authority? Ha! You must be one of his group of cronies--the ones who can't try their ways out of a paper bag. Does the phrase "voir dire" make you break out in hives?

THE CAPTAIN REPORTS:

First, the name is CAPTAIN not captian. Second, if you don't enjoy what I write, don't read it. Third, someone asked about Brummer's history of filing early, so I gave the correct information.

Finally, I think it is very relevant that OUT OF A POSSIBLE 46 Judges, all but two Circuit and one County Court Judge have filed for reelection:

Judge Prescott
Judge JB Cohen
Judge Figarola

The common practice these days, is to file early, raise lots of money, and scare away any potential opponents. Filing deadline is May 2, 2008; that's only 6 months!!!

CAPTAIN OUT ..............

This just in, if Brummer does not file, Marcus to announce for PD with Barzee as his chief assistant. They are planning it now in shared office space.
