On
Thursday, February 27, 2020, from Noon to 2PM, Miami-Dade Public Defender Carlos Martinez and FACDL-Miami will co-host a training session entitled
Driver License Offenses. It will cover just about everything that can cause a driver license suspension and a driver license crime.
This training is open to all Assistant Public Defenders, Assistant State Attorneys, Regional Counsel Attorneys, Private Attorneys and Judges. [but no one else].
The training will feature a panel discussion by judges, lawyers, Advocate Program managers, DHSMV supervisors and court clerk staff led by private defense attorney
Michael Catalano. The panel will include Circuit Court Judge Richard Hersch, County Court
Judge Jackie Woodward and private defense attorney Victor Vedmed.
The training will provide an overview of how various Florida Driver License offenses can impact the status of someone’s driver’s license and how to remedy that impact. [Who wrote this sentence? There are crimes against the English language we cannot overlook even if the President orders us to go lightly on the offender.]
The panel
will also discuss the specific effects of Driver License suspensions resulting from DWLS and DUI offenses. [Umm...hang on a sec...uhh.. You cannot drive!! Right? Did we guess the correct effect??]
And they will explain the processes involved in restoring one’s Driver’s License to good standing. [It is very hard to stand a driver's license upright. The sides are very very thin].
The training will be held in
COURTROOM 4-1 in the RICHARD E. GERSTEIN JUSTICE BUILDING located at
1351 NW 12th Street. [Light refreshments will be available in the lobby during intermission].
Coming next week: The Heartbreak of Disorderly Conduct.

I'm not any of the identified participants and not a great driver. How can I snag an invitation? The seminar sounds quite worthwhile and informative.
Only 10 comments for a “Judge Freddy Moreno retiring” post?
Are you fucking kidding me? One of the all time greats.
Pitiful. It goes to show you that as hard as you work - no one cares. You are just a “blip” in time in Miami. He could have left 10 years ago and made $2 million a year as a law partner. Instead he gave his live to you ungrateful members of the bar for $150k a year.
Just 10 disparaging and idiotic comments for a great man. Sad. Hey Judge Hanzman - don’t try so hard with your careful preparation, well thought out academic Orders and thoughtful rulings. No one will remember when you are gone.
Come on you losers. Show some class.
8:19am is obviously the Maitre’d at JOE’S Stone Crabs??
8:19 AM While not a bad judge, that is a very low bar for Miami black robe wearers.Freddy was never known as even a good trial lawyer, much less than a great one. In fact, in his own firm Kevin, David and John were much better. No present Judge would be a partner at a decent law firm much less make 2MM a year. He became a judge for the benefits, not having to try cases and fight OC and of course a steady salary and pension, like most others who could not make it in private practice. 8:19, not sure if you are off your meds or vaping early this morning. But get real......
The TRIALMASTER will definitely not be attending this seminar for bottom feeders.
8:19 AM,
That's the sad and pathetic aspect of our profession, specifically in criminal law. You can kill yourself in the justice building for 50 years, affect countless lives, make significant sacrifices and , when it is all said and done, you're barely a memory. Whenever an influential attorney passes away, there is hardly a blip about them. That is why nobody should work that hard. Our profession does a horrible job at invoking the memories of the lawyers that contributed
to it.
He’s not retiring. He’s not going anywhere. He is going to senior status. Chill.
Lighten up Francis
Oh right on. Judge Moreno couldn’t make $2 million a year in private practice? Harley Tropin would hire him in a NY second. All of the great rulings in class action cases made by Fred? Hanzman would be hired by Greenberg Traurig and would bring their litigation department up to an A+. Judge Hanzman would be a $4 million a year lawyer. Maybe more. Even Judge Zilber would command big bucks for his litigation skills.
I'm surprised to see you post something like this. DL suspensions may be a joke to you, but I can assure you they're a big deal to those whose licenses have been suspended (particularly those whose licenses were taken because they couldn't afford to pay a ticket). I would've expected more from you.
