HAPPY DAYS

The first Republican president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, is remembered for the Emancipation Proclamation,  his second "A house divided" inaugural address, and perhaps the greatest speech in recorded history: The Gettysburg Address.

Teddy Roosevelt, the 26th president of the United States, started construction of the Panama Canal, wrote and delivered the "Man in the Arena" speech much quoted on this humble blog, and won the Nobel Peace prize for helping end the Russian-Japanese War.

At the current Republican convention, someone who works with something called "Duck Dynasty" gave a prime time speech on the first night.

President Dwight David Eisenhower, wrote two speeches the night of June 1, 1944, one announcing the successful invasion of Europe, another announcing the failure of the invasion. Two nights later he made perhaps the most momentous decision of the twentieth century, giving the go-ahead for the Allied invasion of France, and as Winston Churchill opined, not the end, not the beginning of the end, but the end of the beginning of the Nazi occupation of Europe. As President, Eisenhower spent his farewell address warning the country about the rise of the "military-industrial complex."

Words matter. Speeches can change the world.
On June 12, 1987, Ronald Wilson Reagan stood in front of the Berlin Wall and said "Mr. Gorbachev, Tear Down This Wall!!!." Four years later, on December 25, 1991, the Soviet Union went out of existence, not with a bang, but a whimper.

Scott Baio, of Happy Days and Joanie Loves Chachi fame, also addressed the current Republican National Convention.

The Gettysburg Address. Roosevelt. Eisenhower. "Tear Down this wall!" And now Duck Dynasty and Joanie Loves Chachi.

There's nothing we can say that would ameliorate the enormity of this tragedy and the dumbing down of America and the Republican Party.

Yes RUMPOLE, but how about the GENIUS of Sheriff David Clark (next FBI Director) and Senator Tom Cotton (next Secretary of Defense). Trump will have a wonderful team of "Winners"!

At least Charlie Sheen isn't the keynote speaker. Count your blessings dear man.

Judge Schwartz Resigns Amid Ethics Probe
Samantha Joseph of the Daily Business Review
07/13/2016

Miami-Dade County Court Judge Jacqueline Schwartz resigned effective July 31 amid a second ethics investigation.

Schwartz was on paid suspension following a disciplinary hearing in April on allegations she was intoxicated on the bench. The state Judicial Qualifications Commission also accused her of starting a drunken confrontation with police and staff at a Miami restaurant.

She wrote Gov. Rick Scott to say it was "an honor and privilege" to have serve on the bench, but "unfortunately, as a consequence of a condition I suffer, I can no longer fulfill the requirements of the office for which I was elected."

The Justice Building Blog broke the news.

Schwartz was publicly reprimanded in December for a June 2014 incident when she used profanity and threatened to sue a convenience store owner who refused to display her campaign sign. Other counts in that case stemmed from allegations she removed pages from a court file.

The Florida Supreme Court ordered a 30-day unpaid suspension, public reprimand, a $10,000 fine and a letter of apology from the judge.

Schwartz faced new legal troubles after witnesses said she "took the bench and presided over a criminal traffic docket while impaired" March 28. Her bailiff drove her home, but the judge reportedly couldn't remember her address, didn't recognize her bailiff and failed to realize she was in her own car.

Schwartz's attorney, Jeffrey Feiler of Miami, did not respond to requests for comment by deadline.

I do not envy you Mr. Feiler.

Make America great again. At least trump isn't / wasn't under federal investigation as a nominee. The only reason Comey didn't recommend federal charges is because he didn't want to end up dead.
