RIFKIN ROARS

She's seen it all, and done it all, almost. She's handled the tough Miami murder cases for at least two decades.

And now Dade ASA Abbe Rifkin wants to be a judge. She's done everything except take three hour lunches, sandwiched between denying a motion to suppress in the morning and a rule 3 in the afternoon. Now Ms. Rifkin will be challenging outspoken Broward Judge Matthew Destry in the upcoming judicial election.

The New Times newspaper article is here.  Rifkin is quoted as saying: "It’s 2016 and an election year, so I’ve decided to take it to the people."

Wow. We just had a sixties flash-back. Taking it to the streets. Some ratty jeans; a tie-dyed shirt; a sit in; a march; tune in-turn-on baby. Feel the Bern!!

Anytime a Dade lawyer takes the bench in Browerid, it's a good day.

See You In Court.

Hmmmm

Abbey is a real nice, decent person. She's smart and will be a great judge.

Destry is a nice person too but, a horrible judge who is reversed almost weekly. He makes everyone sit there all day. He really needs to work somewhere else.

Great news. Wished I lived in Broward so I could vote for her. She would be a awesome alternative to a very unpopular Judge. He is ripe for picking.Good luck Abbe!!

I've got $500.00 for Abbe immediately. Destry should be in jail.

What's the history of Dade lawyers who live in Broward, winning a judicial election/ winning against an incumbent/getting appointed?

I know of Teri Miller, Ilona Holmes, Michelle Towbin who sit on the bench now. More?

9:50 - what a stupid comment. Abbe will be a fantastic judge because she is smart, fair and kind. Plus, she's got style and class both inside and out.

I worked with Greenwald when he was a PD in Orlando. Good lawyer, great guy.

Enough with these former ASAs becoming judges.

Very hard to believe that Rifkin has not been appointed by Rick Scott given his penchant for appointing prosecutors. However, rumor has it that Nathan Diamond bashed Rifkin at the governors office and due to the negativity they passed on her appointment. Diamond and Rifkin tried a contentious murder case last year before Judge Pooler and they had many a fight.

I am in Broward so I get to vote for her. Hopefully she will get a little $$$ behind her so she can run a decent campaign. Destry is a friggin joke !!!!

How does Rumpole let 9:50 slide by with that comment? Don't split hairs, Rump, you know what was meant.

I didn't initially see the negative connotation that you saw. I now understand why the comment could be objectionable. I removed it. I guess in politics the phrase that was used which you correctly objected to is often used to describe voters considering a candidate. But when I make a mistake I correct it. The comment is gone.
