NFL 2012 WEEK ONE

UPDATE: Here is the 4pm football update: The Dolphins kept it close for most of the first half and that had a lot of people nervous. But the Texans prevailed and Dore Louis went down bravely in defeat.
The real shocker was REGIII and the Redskins upsetting the Saints (that was THE early season trend and this was a money make for Redskin bettors). And that means Angry Girl, Alan Kaiser, Dan Lurvey, DOM,  and Michael Vick, are all first week losers. Tannebaum's Twitter went down with the Bills (as did we in our picks). Meanwhile BTDT, Stephen Imasche, Brian Freedman, Fake Joel Brown, Fake Alex Michaels and 52nd Street Irwin, all survived close games with the Eagles, Vikings,  or the Lions.
Still waiting on Adam Tebrugge to send in his pick.

Well, here we go. The 2012 football season begins today in ernest at 1:00 pm.  The Dolphins march to their worst record in their history begins in Houston, Texas today. The 2012 suicide pool is posted below, and we made a mistake yesterday calling Miguel De La Over the 20111 winner, when everyone remembers it was Michael Feiler. And speaking of suicide,  Dore Louis commits it today by picking with his heart- the Dolphins, than his head-any of the 31 other teams. At least he is an exponentially better trial lawyer than football prognosticator.

We will update this chart throughout the day. 33 players so far...32 left standing as we start the first Sunday of the season. The chart has been reformulated to be in a mostly alphabetical format.

We cannot devote the time to making picks every week like we did through the 2010 season. But from time to time we will give you some insights on the games. Do with them what you will.

Our source for odds is USA Today/Covers dot com here.

Bills +3 and under 39. Go light on this. But the J..E..T..S  will implode. The question is only when? Buffalo brings in a great defense with the addition of Super-Mario Wiliiams. We like Buffalo here. The Bills were a dropped TD pass away from beating the Steelers late last season and knocking them out of the playoffs. The Bills are for real.

NE at Tennessee. Titans + 5 at home. Titans Jake Locker is starting his second year. Tennessee has a good run game a solid D. Wanna have some fun? Take the money line.  +190, which means you get back a 190 for every 100 you lay. We're putting down a few shekels on the Titans, just for fun. If our guy in Vegas can get us +210, which is out there in some books, we might go as high a geezel (a dime).

Green Bay - 5 over San Fran. Take this for 300 Joel Browns.

Raiders -1 and under 47 against the Chargers. We like the under 47 for 300 Carson Palmers.

If you're a Philly fan, take the Eagles, lay the ten, leave the cannoli.  Browns starting a rookie QB and their rookie star RB is out with a knee injury. Update: Chris Mortensen just tweeted that Richardson is starting. The guy just had knee surgery.  Stay with the Eagles, although under 43 is also a play now. The Browns season is starting out like the way Judge Hirsch's summer ended: not great.

And just because we're not all about football, Obama got a convention bump in all of the polls. Romney did not. It's all down to two things: Does Israel (whose Prime Minister Netanyahu worked with Mitt in Massachusetts in the early 1980's and is a friend of Romney's) strike Iran before the election? Netanyahu does not enjoy great relations with the Obama administration, although an attack would be an unprecedented attempt to influence the US election. And can Romney capitalize on an Obama gaffe in one of the debates? Ronald Wilson Regan went into October trailing  James Earl Carter in all of the polls. Then they debated.....

Enjoy 10+ hours of football. See You In Court Monday.

Last seasons cheers have faded at last.
The empty field hides the plays of seasons gone past.
My home town team opens away
my cheers can't reach them
the distance my volume is drowned
by I will be on my feet yelling
THAT'S ANOTHER MIAMI DOLPHINS FIRST DOWN.

"Miami has the Dolphins...the greatest...err...a very good....ummm..a decent...OK- a not great football team.

"We take the ball from goal to goal...well,,,we try and get a few first downs, like no ones ever seen.

"We're in the air...uhhh...we have a rookie QB so we;ll probably try and run more...so ...we're on the ground

"We're always in control

"And when you're talking Dolphins 2012
well,, they're on the clock for the first pick in the 2013 draft!"

Netanyahu would seriously over play his hand if he thinks attacking Iran would force Obama out of office. Attacking Iran would gain Israel's condemnation from the rest of the world, including almost a majority of Israeli's and President Obama would turn his back on them. The American electorate would award him with overwhelming reelection by stating out of Netanyahu's salvo into WW3.

News of the weird?

Miami-Dade commissioner opposes soccer park idea

By Charles Rabin

crabin@MiamiHerald.com

What could have been a brief, routine discussion last week on possibly turning some county-owned land into a soccer field morphed into a rambling, 31-minute outburst from Miami-Dade Commissioner Javier Souto, who spoke about life, death, phony money, Russia, China — even vanilla ice cream.

The parks department asked commissioners to sign off on the general plan for the park, though there is no funding for it yet. Souto, who chairs the Recreation and Cultural Affairs Committee, jumped in angrily, demanding to know why the matter wasn’t first brought before his committee. When told it would be at some point, he remained far from satisfied.

“If it’s not a matter of life-and-death now, then I say slow down,” Souto said, adding that he was worried about outside actors taking over the project. “All the phony money in the world flows here from Russia, China, you all know that. Is that good or bad? Well, it depends — there are people that, for money, will kill.”

Told to stay on point by Chairman Joe Martinez, Souto began speaking about “the black judge” who created the county’s 13 single-member districts. He also said the park could be as good as vanilla ice cream, and added that the field, on the site of a former landfill, could be contaminated.

Martinez called a point of order, saying the discussion was headed toward a filibuster.

“This is not a filibuster,” Souto retorted.

The item passed 10-1. Souto voted no.

If you missed this in Sunday's Herald , this article is a must read:

Tarnished badges: Opa-locka’s troubled police force.

Before it can clean up the streets, Opa-locka must first correct the chronic corruption and dysfunction in its police Court documents, internal affairs files, police reports and Florida Department of Law Enforcement records obtained by The Herald over the past six months show:

• The force has had 12 police chiefs (and 10 city managers) in 20 years. It’s current chief, Cheryl Cason, was disciplined at least 22 times in an eight-year period before she rose to that lofty position. She tested positive for cocaine twice and nearly had her police certification revoked by the FDLE.

• Last year alone, there were 41 internal affairs investigations on the 58-member force. Ten police officers have either been fired or forced to resign. Many of them were found to have been discharged from other departments for wrongdoing, had criminal records or lied on their job applications.

• City jobs, including police officer positions, are often engineered by city commissioners. Mayor Myra Taylor’s son, Johane, was hired by the department despite having a criminal record for domestic battery. Commissioner Gail Miller’s daughter, Tamika Miller, the department’s former crime analyst, is a convicted felon who, while working later in code enforcement, allegedly pulled a gun on a woman in a beauty salon. She’s still on the job.

• The city’s crime rate remains among the highest in the state for cities of its size. FDLE in 2004 said Opa-locka should turn over its policing to Miami-Dade because the department was incapable of providing even basic services to protect its citizens

D.S., I have no qualms about being corrected, all I ask is that you be correct when attempting to do so. With that being said here's to you pal:

tact (takt)
n.
1. Acute sensitivity to what is proper and appropriate in dealing with others, including the ability to speak or act without offending.
2. Archaic The sense of touch.

A person may HAVE no tact; but they ARE or ARE NOT tact-FUL. Idiot. How about learning to speak English?

D.S. every the former Gov. speaks he exhibits his inability to communicate effectively. D.S., the man gaffs just as much as W, if not more. Had you watched Meet the Press Sunday you would know. You should be cognizant of the fact that this man is highly unqualified for the office of the Presidency. He exemplifies his awkwardness via his inability to connect with everyday citizens and make a clear, concise, and rational viewpoint every time he speaks.
