IN THE DARK

Update: The lights are back on 90 miles south of Key West. An embarrassed communist party member tripped over an extension cord. All is back to normal.

Power failure in Havana last night. Have to wonder how long those old communists can hold on.

Query: When Cuba opens up, it will be
a) good for Miami's economy in general
b) good for the legal community's  economy
c) bad for Miami's economy in general
d) bad for the legal community's economy
e) no effect

Dolphins started off 0-1 Sunday  on their way to 3-13 or worse.

Semi-controversy in Broward where Judge Diaz, facing a stiff re-election challenge has taken to swearing in jurors every week. Jurors that just happen to be drawn from the pool of registered voters. Kosher?

Another Defendant goes to trial starting today in that horrible kidnapping, sexual assault murder case out of Penrods from several years ago. Judge Will Thomas presides. ASA Reid Ruben picks up where Abe Laeser left off. ASA Laura Adams has been on the case from the beginning.

See You In Court.

Not to change the subject, but Farina retired ten days ago and there was no publicity. Very odd the way it went down.

The Black Death returns

CDC confirms a case of Bubonic Plague in Colorado.

West Nile outbreak in Texas
Nwe hunta virus in yellowstone .

The CDC suggests its from an unusally warm winter.

Thank God there isnt global warming

The Joel Lebron trial is just a formailty. This animal injaculated inside that innocent little girl before he executed her. His buddy Caraballo says that he jerked off on her because didn't want to follow his brother who had Aids. Leathal injection is not appropriate in this case. They need the hog tie, knife slice, buzzard peck...

I'm in the dark as to why the power failure in Havana matters. Hahahahahaha

Anonymous said...

It matters because the Castro boys might not have electricity for their oxygen machines or defib machines to shock them awake every morning. If they die, then you will once again hear the beating of pots and pans on 8th Street. What you won't hear is the giant sucking sound of all of the Castro haters returning to Cuba because most of the Catro haters are too old to return to Cuba anyway.

My theory is that one of the sympathizers here in Miami Dade accidentally cut the power cord running from his house to Havana, while mowing his lawn. Or, the Mossad did it as a test run for what they will do in Iran.

Sorry D.S., although I agree with the jab at global warming deniers, bubonic plauge is not unusual here in New Mexico. It lives in the praire dog and other rodent populations. A friend who works at a local hospital says they treat a few cases every year.

The Captain Reports:

Judicial Elections 2014 ....

We were asked to post the names of those Judges likely to retire in 2014 creating openings for the next election.

Please note that a lot can happen in the next two years including the possibility of early retirement, death, ascension to a higher office, but here is our best guess:

CIRCUIT COURT:

There are 34 Judges up for election. The likely retirees include:

Judge Ronald Dresnick
Judge Leon Firtel
Judge Sandy Karlan
Judge Celeste Muir
Judge Marc Schumacher
Judge Bernard Shapiro

Judge Farina's replacement will have to run for a full term.

COUNTY COURT

There are only nine Judges up for election. None of them will be retiring.

The replacements for Judge Smith and Judge Miranda will have to run for a full term.

Cap Out ....

Fleur Lobree deserves to get the appointment.

Gotta be Breezye, Flores, or Fleur Lobree.

Fleur was appointed and, whether unjustly or not, could not win an election. She should not be reappointed as she will lose at the polls again.

I'm eating at Cafe Tutty Snooty in the Design District loving the ragu of pork in a wine red pepper glaze. While my compatriot is scarfing down a confit of duck and portobello mushroom soufle. Don't even think of eating here. You couldn't get in if your mother owned the joint. Its only for people like me.

Lobree was beat 71-29. She took a dirt nap.

Telfair and half that list are incompetent. Dealt with Telfair and she does not have the judgment or demeanor to be a judge.

I bet you are an incompetent looser. Who does not have half the mind to put your name in for judge. Doubtful that you are at all a reliable source for information. You are probably just another shit talking asshole who slams people without any reason but that you are a jealous piece of shit.

I am so seriously sick of people bashing other attorneys who run or put their names in for judges. It takes a lot of ball to run or put your name in. Doubtful any member of the bar is incompetent to be a judge, some may be better qualified than others but incompetent is doubtful. Stop the hating.

Madeline Acosta, Robert Coppel, Alan Greenstein would be wonerful judges. My money is that John Rodriguez will get it. (Just a hunch).

McWorter? If she is a nice person now then yes if not then absolutely no.

When your too busy trying murder cases and doing your job and you have dumbass defense attorneys asking for stupid plea offers then may not always be in the best mood.

Fleur couldn't defend her seat, not a good thing to have on your resume if you're trying to get reappointed.

Telfair is a half-wit, bully. The half-wit part will eliminate her from getting out of the JNC.

One Lombana, Two Lombana said...

John Rodriguez is a Lombana puppet, put up to run against Judge Thomas because her JA didn't kiss Lombana's ass, or something like that.

Same rationale that put up Manny Alvarez against Special Ed Newman, when Ed pissed off Al Milian.

The difference is that Judge Thomas is a good judge and Ed Newman is, well, special.

I had the pleasure of having Breezye Telfair in my division when I was a division chief. She is hardworking, dedicated, and intelligent. I think she'd make a great judge.

Ofelia Damos would be good county court judge material.

Anonymous said...

whoever wrote that Judge Lobree couldnt defend her seat is probably not an attorney or truly in the dark. Judge Lobree didn't have a chance against the machine that puts Judges on the bench. Have you read the newspaper lately (or yesterday) Good luck to Judge Lobree. We know what we have with her. She is a great Judge and serves our county with dignity. The same way she ran her election. Many of the "winners" can't say that. Only ones who lose are us.

Umm. Judge Thomas is NOT a good judge first and foremost. She is lazy, she cancels her calendar at he whims, she is rude, and she treats people like shit. everyone just voted for her because she is the black and not based on her actual qualifications; that is sad, because she really not what she tries to appear she is. Why don't you do some research and see how many weeks she cancelled her trials, how many times she was late, and why don't you talk to her ex-employees who were treated like crap by her. Have you ever actually practiced infront of her? Having one case here and there is not enough to see how a judge really is. Continuously having cases infront of her will show you her true colors.

See if more people actually held judges accountable for their actions or non actions, the public would know what they are really getting. All the attorneys who tolerate a Judge's persistant bad acts. It is a disrespect to the people for a judge to always be late, not to work and by that I mean not going to trial, to be rude, to not let people speak, and to act like an arrogant ass.

I have a thing to say about Hector Lombada. I have only met him a few times and he seems to be friendly but with a thick overshadowing cloud or arrogance on him. I personally find his antics and him to be repulsive. Him and his croonies think they can pick and choose who can or can't become judge. They try to intimidate judges by throwing opponents against them with promises of taking them down. Well anyone who today or in the next 6 years pays any attention to Lombada in making a decision to run is an idiot. Not only has every opponent he put up recently run but many people now see that he is backing an opponent and automatically go for the other party. Lombada makes false promises to attorneys that is they move their seats he will raise tons of cash for them. The idiots fall for it. Its a shame because Johnny Rodriguez should have stayed against Brinkley. He would have won and the County would be better off. Brinkley is already getting a bad reputation for her demanding this and that and the fact is she has not even taken the bench yet.
Those of us who want a judge who is not a puppet would never vote for a candidate that Lombada or Pelier endorses. I am sick and tired of Miami being a place where it is not the quality of who you are but the quantity of who you know that gets you the job. Today there are several judges on the bench that need to remember that the people are their employers and that they need to respect them by treating them with common courtesy. Judge Newman has forgotten that and that is one of the many reasons why Manny would have made a better judge. However a group of us felt that the simple fact he allowed Lombada to put his name behind him was enough for us NOT to vote for him.
To me and many a Lombada endorsment is the kiss of death for a candidate.

Telfair doesn't have the experience. She's only been an attorney for 6 or 7 years. And she definitely doesn't have the temperament.

Anonymous said...

an asa or pd with 6-7 years of experience is equal to a private with 25years. they are in war every day u cannot say she is qualified to handle murders but not qualified to be a judge give me a break. I'm sure she would be a great jurist.
