SUICIDE IS PAINLESS

SAY IT AIN'T SO!!!!! The latest forecast track shows Ike heading into the Gulf and then......we hesitate to even mention this....but it looks like the Big Easy is under the gun....again.

UPDATE: We told you that we thought the downfall of Republican VP candidate Palin would be her husband. Just a guess we said. Here's where it's starting.
Palin's husband's business partner filed an emergency motion to seal his divorce records.

"It brings on many changes.....
"   Name the Movie/show that song was used for.

It's not too late to sign up for our suicide pool. A few people who picked the Giants Thursday night have already moved on to week two. But you have until the Monday night game to email us your pick. The rules are simple: pick one team every week to win, no points, and once you've picked that team you can no longer use that team for the rest of the year.

So far, here are the players and their picks:

Our runner up from last year- Clay Kaiser starts off with a win, having picked the Giants.
David O Markus with a K, our famous federal blogger, starts off with a brave choice: The NE Patriots. David is known for his courtroom daring, as he proves with his football pick this first Sunday.

Rick Freedman chooses the Chargers. Rick didn't make it our of the first Sunday last year. Good luck Rick.

"Shumie Time"  starts off with  the Cowboys.
"The Steel Curtain" selects the Bills.
Michael Feller also starts off with a win, picking the Giants.
"The Q" goes out on a limb  with the Bills.
"The Public Pretender"  rolls the dice with the Bengals.

Miguel De La Over joins our Federal Blogger with the Patriots.

Marshall Dore Louis makes the most daring pick of the week- the home town fish over the J...E...T...S.  A bold move that could well pay off.

Dan Lurvey takes a flyer on the Bills.

"Iffy" Is certain the Steelers will take out the Texans

And last years humble winner? You own Rumpole? We are leaning towards the Eagles, but check in Sunday morning to see if we have changed out pick.

Good luck everyone.  And feel free to join in. Have I forgotten anyone who sent me an email? Let me know.

Click on the title for the answer to the trivia question and enjoy the song.

Clay Kaiser? Is this the same individual known last year as "Feet of Clay Kaiser," or his brother?

Obesity is a disease. We don't make fun of it. We did not post that comment. Plus the guy is a nice guy. Leave him be.

Rump, did you read the divorce sealing motion? It had nothing to do with anything juice on Palin's husband. It was just about keeping addresses and phone numbers of the friends of the Palins out of the public's view so that they wouldn't be harassed by reporters.

"Reformer" Sarah Palin ran a 527 for now indicted Senator Ted Stevens.

"Reformer" Sarah Palin hired a former staffer of nowindicted Senator Ted Stevens to lobby for earmarks for the town of Wasilla.

"Reformer" Sarah Palin, while running for governor, supported the "bridge to nowhere." Only AFTER Senator Ted Stevens was indicted and AFTER she was elected governor, did she decide to oppose it.

And McCain? I remember when he stood up to the religious right and George Bush. Now he panders to both.

Rump...your analysis of the electoral math is flawed.

Obama is virtually to carry every state that Kerry carried in 2004, with the possible exception of New Hampshire. It will probably go blue as well. It also looks like Obama has built up a very srong lead in Iowa and a respectable lead in New Mexico. Bush carried both states in 2004.

The folllowing states that Bush carried in 2004 are tossups: Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, Colorado, Nevada and Florida. The Dakotas and Montana also fall into this category.

North Carolina and Missouri will probably go red, but Obama ha a chance in both. With Palin in the mix, Washington and Oregon may also become more competitive, but I'd still expect them to go blue.

In a nutshell--if Obama caries just one of the following: Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, Colorado OR Florida, he's pretty much in. McCain can still win this election--and it will be interesting to see where the polling is after the first debate, in about two weeks--but he's probably going to have to pull off the proverbial "inside straight."
