ROSENBERGS GUILTY?

BREAKING BLOG NEWS??? WHOA NELLY. A reader reports the 3rd DCA just stayed Judge Blake's order giving all the third degree felony  cases in the United States to the three attorneys and two high school students who Rock-n-Roll for ROC. Say it ain't so Joe!!!

Decades and Decades ago we stumbled across a book on the trial of accused Russian spies Ethel And Julius Rosenberg.  And so began our fascination with the law.

Guilty or innocent, the treatment and executions of the Rosenbergs marks a low water point in US Criminal Prosecutions.

Now comes a NY Times interview (the title links to the article) with  91 year old Morton Sobell, who served 19 of 30 years in Alcatraz for his conspiracy conviction for espionage  with the Rosenbergs. ,  Sobell  states that Julius Rosenberg was in fact guilty of espionage, but that his wife Ethel, who was also convicted, took no part in the espionage other than knowing what her husband was doing.

Sobell also confirms that the sketches of the bomb, made by Ethel Rosenberg's brother-David Greenglass who worked at Los Alamos- and which were turned over by Julius Rosenberg to the Russians, were useless.

Anyway, the article caught our eye.

Here's some political trivia because we're in the mood:

The 1960 Democratic Convention was held where?

Norman Mailer covered the convention. What was the title of his article on the nomination of Kennedy?

Who was Nixon's running mate in 1960?

What city hosted the 1960 Republican convention?

On what number ballot did Kennedy secure the nomination?

In 1956, who did Kennedy lose to in the fight to be the democratic vice presidential nominee?

Two other contenders announced their candidacy in the weeks leading up to the convention. One of them challenged Kennedy to a debate which was televised. Who was that other candidate and before what delegations did they debate?

Reminder- suicide pool players, turn in your picks. We're leaning towards the Seahawks at home over the 49'ers. The Seahawks are bad, but not that bad.

Bush?McCain were both complicit in the attacks on Iraq which did the following: Destabilized the most stable secular country in the middle east, led to the creation of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, disrupted the balance of power between Iran and Iraq letting Iran, the terrorist State, grow in influence. This is a disaster, not a war on terror. And, at the same time, Al Qaeda is growing in Afghanistan again. SHaking my head.

Did Sarah Palin Try to Ban Library Books?
Alaska Librarian Can't Recall Palin Asking to Ban Books
By BRIAN ROSS, RHONDA SCHWARTZ and ANNA SCHECTER

September 10, 2008—

The librarian at the center of a 1996 controversy with then-Wasilla mayor Sarah Palin says she can't recall any effort by Palin to ban specific books from the town library.

In her first public statement since Palin was named the GOP vice-presidential candidate, Mary Ellen Baker said today, "I simply do not recall a conversation with specific titles," Baker told ABCNews.com.

Palin has acknowledged she twice raised the issue in 1996 of how books could be removed from the shelves, but said it was only a "rhetorical question" and that she did not ask for any books to be banned.

Palin's church at the time, the Assembly of God, had been pushing for the removal a book called "Pastor I Am Gay" from local bookstores, according to the book's author Pastor Howard Bess, of the Church of the Covenant in nearby Palmer, Alaska.

"And she was one of them," said Bess, "this whole thing of controlling information, censorship, that's part of the scene," said Bess.

According to coverage in the local newspaper, the Frontiersman, Palin asked the librarian at a meeting "if she would object to censorship even if people were circling the library in protest about a book."

The report quotes the librarian as responding, "I told her clearly I will fight anyone who tries to indicate what books can go on the library shelves."

The same week that Palin raised the issue she fired Baker (then using her married name Emmons) as librarian, claiming she was not "loyal" to the new administration and had supported Palin's opponent in the election. She said the dismissal was not connected to questions of censorship, and that she had dismissed all city department heads and told them they could re-apply for their jobs.

After a public outcry, Palin rescinded the dismissal of the librarian.

The local newspaper reporter who covered the controversy, Paul Stuart, claims he was later told by the librarian that Palin wanted three specific books removed from the library.

In her statement to ABC News, the librarian said, "I am unable to dispute or substantiate the information Paul Stuart provided to you."

Stuart said he was confident of his memory. "She may have said that but that's not how it was."

After she got her job back, Baker spent two more years in Wasilla before leaving for a library job in Fairbanks.

She would not address her reasons for leaving Wasilla, but friends say she felt badly treated by Mayor Palin.

"I don't care to revisit that time in my life," Baker told ABC News.

Who gives a fuck about the princess?

Why don't you civil attorneys stay where you belong--on your blog, in your offices and in court on Flagler Street maybe once a month, once every two months?

Did anyone watch Palin's interview on Good Morning America?

Rump if you received a comment that said "who knew rednecks could write"

Could you not publish it? The comment was meant to be published on another post on another blog. I'm still hangover from last week!

8:30, I'm not a civil lawyer, I practice criminal law. I knew the princess' mother.

8:08, Gilberto and Miguel both were sentenced to 30 years. IMO they will never be paroled.
The million dollar question: which brother fathered the pretty yet illegitimate princess?

8:30, you sound like a whiny brat. What's the matter, the princess block your email address? BTW, it isn't only civil attorneys who have a thing for the princess, it's all areas of law, including judges.
