MAGNET MIAMI

Our Herald reports:

L.A. FRAUD SUSPECT MAY BE IN MIAMI

A man charged with multiple counts of fraud related to a $150,000 Internet scheme may be in Miami, the U.S. Attorney's Office reported Friday.
The FBI has issued an arrest warrant for Teodor Manolache, who most recently lived in the Los Angeles area. He is suspected of deceiving buyers in online auctions on eBay, Yahoo! Auctions, and Autotrader.com.
The 29-year-old Romanian national and his alleged co-conspirator, Leontin Salageanu, often posed as Hurricane Katrina relief organizations holding online charity auctions.
Many of their victims believed their purchases supported Katrina survivors, the U.S. Attorney's Office reported.

Rumpole says: Now why doesn't this surprise us? Our fair city is a veritable magnet for a rogues gallery of thieves, ruffians, suspicious characters, and we’re not just talking about the City Commission.

Well, if it wasn’t for them, we’d have to learn about subrogated insurance policies and such.

See You in Court Tuesday. Have a great long weekend.

ok lets see all of you want to get your criminal clients to be set free by a judge and you want gays to get married and teach our kids that all of this is great .Well you all really represent what most folk think

Rumpole says: Ain't the First Amendment great? And anonymous poster, don't you worry. When the government comes for you, and they will, we will be here, your last line of defense, and then, and only then, will you understand what "we" do, and what "we" want.

Typical Criminal defense liberal baloney. All of a sudden getting drunk drivers, drug dealers wife beaters and thugs set free and promoting the marriage of gays
is equivalent to the 1st ammendment.

Hmmm Maybe the logic taught at UM is as faulty as their teaching of offesive football fundamentals!

shit for brains owner of this BLOG why dont you stop bashing Leslie R.

Rumpole says: NO. Your ability to say stupid things is the first amendment. Your right to live without the intrusion of the government is the fourth and fourteenth amendments. So it doesn't matter to you when the government comes for gay people. And it may not matter to you when they come for Protestants, or Jews, or Democrats. But eventually, they will come for you, and then you will know why you need us.

Rumpole says: YOU TALKIN TO ME? YOU TALKIN TO ME?

1) I know Leslie Rothenberg.
2) Her public role as a Judge makes her fair game for debate in the democratic society we live in, especially when she is up for merit retention.
3) I have been working as a lawyer since I was in my very early twenties, and I worked my way through college and law school before that. What exactly do you mean by real job? If you mean defending idiots like you when you get arrested for spewing some vile form of hate, I will do that. I will hold my nose, and give you the best damn defense possible.

Rumpole said...

PS. I'm not gay.

Not that there's anything wrong with it. We are all G-d's creatures. As hard at it is to believe, that includes you.

Really, Leslie R. was in criminal for 11 years. Ask any lawyer with half a brain what kind of Judge she was.

You moderate a pathetic blog bashing a seasoned jurist. Moderate is the KEY word.

GET A LIFE LOSER.

give me a fucking break. judge rothenberg bent over backwards for the state when she was a trial judge. she was not a balanced, nuetral jurist.

Anonymous said...

Uhhh, Rumpole, god is dead. Haven't you heard? Reason rules triumphant.

Anonymous said...

Rothenberg was a delight if you were a smart prosecutor. But I have never met a defense lawyer, with a brain or otherwise, who was excited if he drew her as a judge. However, I will vote yes to retain her.

Let the bells ring from afar the great Rumpole has declared that he does not take it up the tookie.

Rumpole: "I'm not gay"

The tabloids are having a field day. In this late evening news alert our unreliable Sources inside the Rumpole camp have leaked information that Rumpole will state for the record:

"I'm not gay"

Unconfirmed reports have it that Rumpole is not Gay.

Rump---I found it a bit ironic that in your discussion of Leslie's fairness you recount a "private" discussion you had with her. Nice. You treat all your "private" discussion this way?

SO-IF PEOPLE VOTE NO---TO ALL--NOT TO KEEP ANY OF THEM, THEN WHAT HAPPENS?

I ACTUALLY DON'T CARE AND HAVE ELECTED TO VOTE NO TO ALL OF THEM NOT TO BE RETAINED FOR THEIR SEAT...........

Anonymous said...

JUSTICE IS FULL OF BALONY ANYWAY---IT IS ALL ABOUT NEGOTIATION AND LIES.....THE LAW DOES NOT APPLY AS IT PREACHES----A PROSECUTOR JUST TO WIN WILL EVEN USE A DIFFERENT NAME TO WIN THEIR CASE---EXAMPLE: THE PERSON HAS A FIRST;MIDDLE; AND LAST NAME----IF THEIR VICTIM HAS A PASS----THEY USE THE MIDDLE NAME AND LAST SO IT SHOWS AS A GOOD PERSON TO SOCIETY----BUT YET THE PROSECUTOR OF COURSE CAN GET AWAY WITH ANYTHING LIKE LJ DID.......

Some of the comments about Rothenberg are ridiculous. Hard as this may be for some of you, the system isn't all about the defendants. It's also about the community and victims.

Rothenberg actually was a terrific trial judge who made good rules grounded in law. She never made a ruling she couldn't justify based on prevailing case law. The fact that she is more conservative than some of you is as irrelevant as the fact that some judges are more liberal than me. The issue for merit retention should not be whether a judge shares our philosphies; it should be whether they follow the law. She does and she should be retained.

Anonymous said...

if you vote NO then she is out and the JNC will nominate a group of lawyers, judges for to replace her and send those names to gov jeb bush for to pick from 3-6 names

Anonymous said...

6:33 give me a fuckin break already. IN Aug 2004 the Miami Herald called Leslie B. (Bigot) Rothenberg, unethical for saying she would discriminate against one group of people because she dont like that group of people.

She was a Judge for many years and retired in 2004 to run for as a republican for state attorney and she felt it OK to state in public she is a Bigot and then in 2005 apply for position to 3rd DCA with discriminatory views against one group of people.

A Appeals Judge should be pure and free of those who have voiced views of discrimination against one group of honest decent people. She stated those views in public. How are we to know what views she has not made public against Cubans, Blacks or any other group of people.

Were does exclusion and inclusion begin and stop in Leslie B. (BIGOT) Rothenberg mind. Do we want a Judge on a appeals court who has voiced discrimination already on a valued court that only sit 11 Judges.

We in Miami Dade Can do better.

Rumpole take a stand against these Rothenberg supporters trying to libel you.

.......So if the above is true, I will vote NO as well. But before making a final determination provide some proof,,,a link to read or any other facts to support these allegations.

What about all the other candidates? Who is recommending who? What else should we know about them?

Anonymous said...

she made a huge mistake when she got into bed with the C.C.. however, that was politics and she was trying to win. and in her defense, men who like to swallow male cum kinda gross people out.

Why is the blog becoming a forum re: rothenberg; if you want that forum, create your own website; Regading stupid state attorney's, what do you expect when you hire out of St. Thomas.

Rumpole says: Well you read the blog. Do I? I guess it should have said private in the sense of a discussion as opposed to a public statement from the bench, and not private in the sense of a communication that could not be repeated. It was, as I remember, a discussion in the Pickle Barrel.

Lots of hate in the comments. I have a suggestion: If you do not like this blog, please go read other blogs. There is a blog, I kid you not, that encourages New Yorkers to yell at each other in public. Try that one.

Rumpole said...

Hey, is the PD's office open Monday? And if so, can any lawyers that are banned seek amnesty?

"men who like to swallow male [deleted] kinda gross people out."

I agree with your statement but who are you to say whats gross and not for all people.

If you sit as a Judge (especially a Judge interpretating the law for Floridian's for years to come) your not there to say hey if you want to have a abortion which literally is ripping a baby out of a womens womb and throwing it in the trash is right, wrong, gross or what have you because your polital party says so.

Justice is more than Leslie B. (Bigot) Rothenberg and we can do much better. How she got past the JNC and Bush who for all accounts seems fair is beyond me.

Remember Jeb Bush appointed a number of openly gay Judges to the bench and I tell you if Leslie B. (Bigot) Rothenberg was the GOV she would never have done this.

Theres a difference from being a republican and a bigot she just happens to be both.

I may be willing to vote for her and say yes if she came out publically and said she was sorry for her public position she took in 2004.

Anonymous said...

8:33 pm search the Miami Herald archives at www.herald.com and look for a story under her name from August 2004 you will find what you want there.

with the exception of her C.C. issues, rothenberg did well with her bid to become state attorney. i watched her speak at a couple forums and found her to be very reasonable and intelligent. for example, she had very liberal views on drug poss cases. she told me that she thought most poss. cases should be cts. but when it came to violent crime, if you were convicted after trial, she was gonna blow you away. and who gives a shit about convicted violent criminals. they are the scum of the earth. however, the point rumpole makes about her views on the fourth ammendement is disturbing. i hope she does not let her personal views come between following the law. it would suprise me if she did.

Anonymous said...

I know of one case that went to the 3rd DCA regards gay issues and with no reason whatsoever provided sanctioned one of the litigants.

Was she following the law or slamming a litigant on a gay issues because of personal views? Based on what is being written above she should have disqualified herself.

"Judge Rothenberg, while being a prolific writer and known for her careful review of the record and her analytical opinions, has continued to be involved with the legal system outside of her appellate duties. She currently sits on the Judicial Ethics Advisory Committee and was recently appointed by the governor to sit on the Capital Crimes Commission. Additionally, Judge Rothenberg will be teaching a campaign and election forum, and has lectured on the standards of appellate review, the application of stare decisis, and the preservation of error. The "interpretating" word use was hilarious. Its right up there with Flavor Flav's use of the word "hypmotize" and that girl who on VH-1 said she felt "emotionable" at the awards.

English is a language in evolution, just look at Ebonics.
