ISN'T IT GRAND

Before we begin, apologies for not giving you our lock of the week- Bucs +9.5 over Cowboys. If there is one constant in the NFL, it's the Cowpokes playing down as soon as everyone jumps on their bandwagon.

How is that Grand Conspiracy investigation run by top level DOJ lawyers out of our own SDFL office doing? The Failing NY Times has a report Friday.

Let us summarize:

DOJ Legend Joseph diGenova, 81, was dragged out of retirement and sent to Miami (like many retirees) to run this investigation. Now, MAGA minions thought. "we will get to the bottom of this!"  Then the contretemps began. Frustrated with his slow movement (some might call it careful prosecutorial analysis) AG Blanche (motto: "When POTUS says JUMP! I say how high?") brought in two DC DOJ flunkies to push matters along. Joey D then threatened to have US Marshals remove those lawyers forcibly if they tried to enter the grand jury room. Enraged, Blanche called diGenova and ordered him to DC. In response, diGenova quit. Soon after his deputy quit.

Worry not MAGA minions, SDFL US Attorney Jason Reding Quinones was on the case! His office would bring home the tocino iberico.

But wait! Isn't the SDFL understaffed- there used to be 200 lawyers and now there's about 100? No worries, Reding recruited military lawyers to lend a hand. (More about the pending public execution of a member of the military next week).

From the failing NY Times about our SDFL US Attorney's Office: "The chief of the office's criminal division has been sidelined. The office's health care fraud section has been decimated (adversely affecting the income of Rumpole and many defense attorneys in our fair city). Many prosecutors say the office feels leaderless and are worried that a place once known for big drug cases and white-collar cases (funding our retirement) has pivoted to politics."

How does the AG feel about Miami US Attorney Reding Quinones? As per the Times: "Reding Quinones [is viewed] as feckless and [an] inexperienced manager not capable of running the day to day operations of his office, let alone the grand conspiracy case...they felt Mr. Reding Quinones spent too much time in Washington and too little in Florida."

Feckless? Ouch. We've been called many things, but never feckless. That has to hurt.

Long time Miami AUSA Maria Medetis Long had the case. After her review, she wrote a thoughtful memo indicating there were no crimes to indict. Naturally, she was removed from the case, spurning Joseph diGenova's entreaties to come back on the case when it was given to him.

This is quite frankly disappointing. We had high hopes for the investigation. The Grand Conspiracy case had the ability to answer questions that have troubled us for decades, including

Why was the Kennedy Center not originally named " The Future President Trump Center?"; Just how did the 69 Mets manage to win it all within nine years of bring the historically worst team in the history of baseball?; Just who profited from the designated hitter rule anyway" Just exactly where is Obama's birth certificate?; Why is there no new cafe in the REGJB?; And why can't the Yankees do better in the post-season?

In any event, this much is clear. The SDFL US Attorneys Office has not just become a laughingstock amongst Miami Judges and lawyers, but the DOJ powers that be view it as incompetent, and even worse...

Feckless.

THE CAPTAIN WEIGHS IN:

Should anyone be surprised by the revelations that Jason Reding is un-qualified. Our loyal readers will recall The Captain's post about Reding a couple of years back, when Reding was first applying to the JNC for an open seat.

Attorney Jason A. Reding, now known officially as Attorney Jason A Reding Quinones, according to the Members Page with The Florida Bar, changed his name from “Reding” to “Reding Quinones” on December 1, 2023. Mr. Reding has been an attorney, holding himself out as Jason Reding, for more than 15 years. Today he is interviewing for one of the two open Circuit Court seats and one of the two open County Court seats in Miami-Dade County. (Not so coincidentally, the deadline for filing applications to the JNC for the four open seats was December 1, 2023, the same date that attorney Jason Reding changed his name).

Some more facts:

The Florida Bar lists Jason Reding Quinones as a member in good standing. Reding has been a member of The Florida Bar since September 29, 2008.

It also mentions that he works for the U.S. Department of Justice. He uses the following email address: jason.reding@usdoj.gov.

According to the USDOJ website, Reding is referred to numerous times as only Jason Reding. There is no mention of the name “Quinones” anywhere in his name.

According to AVVO, they list him as Jason Reding, corporate attorney.

According to Clearway Law, they list him as Jason Reding. Apparently, at some point, his law office was located at 2250 SW 3rd Ave Ste 303, Miami, FL, and he practiced corporate, government, guardianship, and probate law.

According to SUNBIZ, Jason Reding incorporated Reding Law, PA in October of 2011. The corporation was dissolved in 2016.

According to Buzzfile, they also list him as Jason Reding, with the same law office address. (1/2)

The Captain continues:

According to LinkedIn, Reding was an Associate at KPMG from 2008-2012 handling transactional and corporate law. He is also a JAG with the USAF. He joined the USDOJ in 2018, working in their office in Alexandria, Virginia. He then moved to Miami and worked in the criminal division for four years before moving to the civil division in 2022.

According to the Miami-Dade County Property Appraiser’s website, Jason A Reding owns a property in Miami-Dade County. The Warranty Deed uses the name Jason A Reding; there is no mention of “Quinones” in his name.

According to the Marriage License Bureau of Miami-Dade County, Jason Anthony Reding has been married twice. First, to Sandra Gonzalez, on August 21, 2004. Sandra Reding’s name appears on the paperwork submitted to the Florida Department of Corporations when Jason Reding incorporated his law firm, Reding Law, in 2011. When Jason Reding filed for a dissolution of marriage in 2012, he did so using the name Jason Reding. He was married a second time, on November 25, 2017, to Jennifer Donates. There is no mention of the name “Quinones” on either of his marriage licenses nor on the clerk’s website regarding his dissolution of marriage case.

In 2018, Jason Reding was the plaintiff in a lawsuit filed against Citizens Property Insurance Corp. The property where the alleged damage took place is the same address as the property listed on the Miami-Dade County Property Appraiser’s website. Once again, there is no mention of the name “Quinones” anywhere in the lawsuit nor anywhere in the online Exhibit - the policy that Reding paid for that was the basis of the lawsuit.

That's your US Attorney for the SDFL. We should be so proud.

Bring back Jimmy Johnson for God's sakes. "How 'bout them Cowboys!"

I had a rather crazy domestic injunction with Jason when he was a judge. He could not have been more fair and polite. I have not seen a bad side of Jason but, anyone who works for Trump is stupid.

captain / judges are politicians in this state. they solicit money for their campaigns and rule on cases for the clients of lawyers who have donated money to their campaigns. this is legal. Who cares if the guy starts using a Spanish last name so long as it belongs to him. only an fool running for Office would not use a spanish sr name
if he or she could in dade county.
