SWIFT AND SURE

SUPER BOWL BETTING TIP: The Swifties cannot find a song equal to Tiny Dancer, so throughout the weekend we will be giving you some Super Bowl betting tips- this one from Matty Meatballs, a professional bettor who lives in Vegas. You can bet the Chiefs on the money line and get +105 or +110 meaning that without points a 100 bet returns 105 to 110. OR you can get Mahomes as the MVP for +130-  so if you like the Chiefs, play the Mahomes MVP and get better value. Case in point, Meatballs was part of a consortium that spread seven figures among a dozen books last year during the NBA finals on Nikola Jokic winning the MVP and not his Denver Nuggets winning the series.   The bets paid off handsomely and generated about 25% more in odds than a bet on Denver.

As promised, heading into Super Bowl weekend we renew our feud with the Swifties.

We start with Ms. Dunderhead's new album.

Someone get this girl an editor! It should be either "The Tortured Poet's Department" if it's one poet, or the "Tortured Poets' Department" if it's a bunch of tortured poets. And if these poets are listening to her insipid swill, we know why they are tortured.

We promised a song off, and we will start.  Without using the heavy artillery just yet, we submit for you this song, bubble-gummy in nature, which is miles better than anything she squeals, be it in Tokyo where she is this weekend, or in a Super Bowl box where she will be Sunday.

Nice first punch leading with a great Elton song. But these swifties will come at you hard. Hope you have Shumie and The Q on your side. These girls are relentless and tough.

You're wrong on your grammar. There's just the one Department, so the the is fine without the singular possessive. The Department of Tortured Poets is illustrative. This has been your moment of pedantry. You're welcome. Taylor who, now?

They are not required to use the possessive form and the title is not a grammatical mistake.

They could argue that "Tortured Poets" serves as an "adjectival noun" or "noun adjunct" which modifies the word "Department."

It would be akin to using such terms as "Visual Arts Department" or "Natural Sciences Department" when referring to certain academic offices and divisions. Or "arms race" for those who remember the Cold War. In such examples, it is not necessary to use the possessive form of the modifying noun.

@6:34pm . . . well done explainer.

I’d like to commend the hijacking of this thread by those of us on the grammar spectrum. Also, as far as music goes, how ‘bout those Grammies? Chapman/Combs was magnificent.

Anybody else have a GF harassing them to get VIP tickets to the Shumie bowl parties this weekend ? Pop up restaurants and club at the beach and also miami river with a REN (a venue ) menu and tons of models. Like I’m not paying 1000 bucks to be jammed into some room with loud music and get handed an egg roll and beer and told I’m lucky. Jeeze she’s making me crazy.

@5:28 - If you're going to use "how 'bout" then it would be followed by "them" as in "how 'bout them Grammies" not "those" as used in your comment. See relevant examples below.

Let the grammar wars continue!

Can't wait for her album about her current man...I welcome title suggestions, but here are a couple from me:

Loose Ends
Indian Maiden
Tomahawk Chopped

I certainly do not believe Rumpole has listened to any of the versions of All To Well. While it may not iconic, like Don McClean American Pie or Dylan’s Like a Rolling Stone, the lyrics and vocals are amazing. It’s great story telling. It’s not the pop bubble crap out there. Give the 10 minute Taylors version a run.

Oh look, can it be more obvious how much you disrespect women. There is never a time when you do not address a woman you do not like in a demeaning manner. I am not a Swiftie but you have major issues with women. You may not know it but just review how your past posts and it is just sad.

I could make some silly Rumpole like response but instead I invite you to email me and discuss why you think this is so.
I have major issues with sanctimonious judges and prosecutors who threaten people.
In my law firm you would find the exact opposite of your criticism but if somehow my writing reflects otherwise I’m interested to see it.

I would say my picking a fight with swifties is much more generational than gender related.
Maybe I should have posted the Carol King video It’s Too Late Baby instead of Elton John. Or any of the Joni Mitchell songs as she was just honored for the first time at the Grammies.

In truth I am so misanthropic that my dislike extends to 99 % of the population and not nearly the 52% or so of the other gender. I discriminate almost entirely based on intelligence and not gender. I dislike being around or exposed to stupid people or in other words right off the bat the 45% of the population that is going to vote for the former president. And then I take it from there.

I could say some of my best friends are women but that would be so disingenuous as I don’t really have friends. I can say that Pat Benetar is in my top ten favorite rock stars. Maybe top five. So email me. Hit me with your best shot. Fire away.

The misanthropy defense will not protect you from charges of bias or prejudice. If any of the unintelligent people you dislike happens to include people of color, women, or LGBT people, then you will be charged with racism, sexism, homophobia, etc., no matter how many stupid straight white males you might also dislike.

Maybe. As it happens, Taylor Swift sang a tribute to Carole King at her induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Karma- Taylor Swift.

You are an ass, sir. Stuck in the past and too afraid to embrace the future.

Jealous perhaps you don't have anyone like Taylor, loving and supporting you and showing her love for her man for the world to see. You need a good doctor to remove whatever bug crawled up your ass.

Yes. Yes we are relentless. We refuse to back down especially from all the un necessary hate.

Taylor Swift is to 2024 as the Monkeys were to 1968. Manufactured clap trap.

Even The Monkees had multiple hits and award nominations. And you still hear some of their songs played today, so they were not entirely forgotten or discarded.

The Monkees peak fame lasted about 4 years, between 1966-1970.

Taylor Swift has stayed famous for over 15 years now, which is pretty good endurance within the music industry and popular culture. However little you think of her talent, she hasn't been one of those ephemeral pop stars who are famous for one year and then forgotten the next.

Tiny Dancer- you do realize Britney Spears did a version with Elton John, right? Rumple is an old foggy fart who doesn't realize the impact Taylor Swift has on people. Why is it okay for people to worship a sports star but when it comes to Ms. Swift you have an issue? She has won countless awards, magazine covers including Time, her concerts are selling out, her parents are marketing geniuses, people love to hate on her for no reason other than she shows up supporting the man she loves. So what? She's not harming anyone and this constant bullying and knocking her songs is unfair. You don't like her songs, fine but there's a million plus people who do love her songs and her lyrics have touched people. You may not get it but don't go attacking her simply because you don't like her. It's funny how people waste their time and energy hating someone. I hate Springsteen, not a fan of Elton John but I don't go around wasting my time telling people I do. And just so know, she's not bubble gum music.
