Good afternoon,
Thank you all for your patience and continued cooperation. In the last 3 weeks we have done an incredible job of maintaining justice in the REG. Thanks to the efforts of the SAO, the PDO, the COC and Corrections we have handled hundreds of cases here and in
other counties. We have stayed on top of DCF commitments, no actions and bind downs. And we have implemented plans to get us through the weeks ahead. I cannot express sufficient gratitude to all of you who have spent more time with me than your families.
THANK YOU!
We have been troubleshooting virtual conferencing in our courtrooms and while we are close, we are not quite ready to launch full force. As such, the schedule for next week will remain the same. Bond Hearings & critical hearings in 1-5. Courtroom 4-1 will
be available for some limited ZOOM hearings. But next week we are still going to be in the "testing" stage. I will send more information on how to set a case in courtroom 4-1 later. We will be utilizing ZOOM as well as LIFESIZE, which was given to us by
the SAO. But please do not request a hearing next week yet. I will be working with my judges on standing requests to set next week. We expect to have the issues ironed out early next week.
Beginning 4/13 we will be handling all IN CUSTODY arraignments and OUT OF CUSTODY/UNREPRESENTED arraignments at 9AM in courtroom 4-1. Attorneys will be able to appear virtually. The 10AM/4-1 calendar will then consist of IN CUSTODY pleas and SPECIAL SET hearings.
PLEASE DO NOT ASK TO SET ANYTHING YET - I will send out procedures next week once we have perfected our virtual connection to the jails.
I am hoping to have a detailed procedure by early next week. In the meantime, please continue on with the current procedures. And again, thank you to everyone who has been so helpful during this time. And please call me if you have any questions.
