NEW JUDGES

Fresh off the campaign trail where he couldn't beat a rapist and accused felon, Governor DeSantis reluctantly turned his attention to Florida business and appointed four judges for Miami. In a surprising development only two of four were prosecutors. In a development that surprised nobody, none of them had any experience representing people accused of a crime.

So more Desantis judges. More books being banned. More motions seeking to enforce  rights under the constitution denied. Yawn...another day and more judges who have faithfully sworn to do nothing more than call balls and strikes.

County Court Judge Carlos Gamez was appointed to the circuit court. He takes over the prestigious "Aponte Division".  Things are looking "Rosy" for Judge Gomez.

Christine Hernandez was a state attorney and US Attorney and now she is a circuit judge.

Jennifer Hochstadt was appointed to the County Bench. She was an Assistant County Attorney.

Jason Reding QuiƱones was appointed to the County Court. He is a former Fed... and so it goes.

As you can see, we are just soooo excited by all of this.

  1. I’ll bet Desantis saw the name QuiƱones and picked him, not knowing that got his entire life until a month ago he was Reding.

  2. Christine Hernandez was always wonderful to deal with as both as an ASA and AUSA, she'll make a fine judge

  3. Rumpole I blocked my much younger girlfriend from everything. She’s not a lawyer. She’s one of these hottie influencers that gets like 100k a month for doing bull crapola. Anyway she once saw me on the blog and now writes comments to stalk me. Please block her sexy butt.

  7. No I knew she wasn’t a lawyer. She saw the blog and now leaves comments as a way to stalk me and subtly threaten me.

  8. I for one am glad Christine Hernandez will be on the other side of the bench now. She is a formidable opponent as a prosecutor, and a pleasure to deal with. Great pick for the bench.

  10. I’m sure any of our new judges would immediately grant her a restraining order. Just calling balls and strikes and neber doing anything that could stop them from being promoted. That’s the name of the Florida judging game.

  12. I add my voice to the chorus praising the appointment of Christine Hernandez. I found her to be both smart and compassionate.

  13. Gamez is totally unqualified to be a judge. He will rival El Aponte for incompetence. HIs family political connections overcome his lack of qualifications. Ironically taking over for another incompetence El Aponte. The Miami judicial bench is a joke.

  14. Hey at 12:23--

Listen moron-- I am well aware of that! I did not realize I needed to post the author behind the quote. The full quote is-- G-d does not play dice with the universe.

I also am well aware it is not a lyric. I posted it as a daily reminder to all who might be questioning things in their life or about life in general.

  15. 3:03-- How exactly is she threatening you? How would she know what blog to find you on? Something does not add up-- are you sure this is not a figment or your moronic imagination?

  17. How exactly did she "see" the blog? Whose blog- Rumpole's blog? The comments here are moderated so your whole comment/incident does not add up or make sense. There are chunks missing.

Did this so called hottie watch you post a comment on this particular blog? I dont see any stalking like or even threatening comments.

  19. I’ll be shocked if Christine doesn’t turn out to be one of the finest Judges in the district.

  20. There are two vacancies in Criminal, so I suspect that Judge Gamez is going there, so as not to delay Judge Perkins arriving in Civil.

  23. I had a case with Jason Reding as an AUSA. He was a pleasure to work with. I look forward to seeing him in the RGJB

  24. Gamez is a pompous windbag. Uses words he doesn't know the meaning of.

  25. I had a totally different experience with Judge Gamez. Only appeared in front of him once. I had a complicated commercial lease issue. He read the briefs and was totally up to speed. He asked good questions and get this, gave a prompt ruling. I didnt get dopey vibes, but ymmv. In the last year, I had to wait 6 months in my last jury trial for a judge to turn my jury verdict into a final judgment. when on a contingency, that blows.

  26. Hey Rump, last time i checked the concept of "innocent until proven guilty" was still alive. Anyone can be an accused felon and when was Trump convicted of rape? I just re-read the 4th and 5th Amendments. Funny, I did not see a clause that said "if your last name is Trump and first name Donald, the above does not apply."

  27. I don't know Ms. Hochstadt, but my experience with county attorneys is that they are very very good, have excellent trial and writing experience, and know civil procedure, a serious deficit for former prosecutors unless they spend some serious time reading up on it. So I am pretty hopeful about that appointment.
The comments about Ms. Hernandez (who I also do not know) also make me optimistic.
Shows that even the former presidential candidate cannot strike out every time.

  28. @12:14 - a jury found, under the preponderance of the evidence standard, that Donald Trump sexually assaulted E Jean Carrol.

This is the same as when OJ was found liable for the deaths of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson.

Neither was criminally convicted, but both, as a matter of law, did the deed.

You must be confused. I think Gamez has been in DV since he was appointed. Maybe he was covering for someone?

  30. Christine Hernandez was in private practice for a while before prosecution gigs. I found her very smart and capable.

  31. I’ve litigated against Hochstadt. Smart, courteous, great demeanor and top notch writer. Great addition to county bench.

  32. Rumpole, I have a serious problem-- Why do I keep passing gas but not pooping? I figured this would happen later when I hit my senior citizen status but it has been happening a lot lately. HELP!!!

  33. Christine and Jennifer are both former ASAs. Both smart and accomplished. The bench is better off with them on it.

  34. Christine Hernandez will be a good judge.

  35. Quinones has a rep for not being a hard worker. God forbid he gets assigned to criminal and we get another lazy judge.

  36. Jennifer Hochstadt was also a prosecutor prior to the County.
