SATURDAY FOOD EDITION

An alert reader asked us a question for the ages: Chicken Wings- Drumette or Wing?

Wing

Drumette

Steak choice- Filet Mignon, NY Strip or Ribeye?

Pizza: NY Style or Deep-Dish Chicago Style?

Subs: Philly Cheesesteak or Miami Cuban ?

Hot Dog- NY Nathan's Off the grill or Chicago Style boiled with a slice of tomato and pickle (Rumpole's Choice- we did a whole post on Chicago style dogs many years ago). Mustard or ketchup or both on the dog?

  1. The Captain weighs in:

Wing for me. But both are great. Love me some great chicken wings.

Ribeye. And make it Cajun and it’s even better.

    Pizza. New yawk style

Subs. Anything from Laspadas but especially the turkey, ham, and salami combo. Not big on either of your options.

Hot Dog. Nathan’s every day and twice on Sunday. With mustard.

    Cap Out …..

  2. Hanzy: What do you think about these questions Coco?
Coco: Well easy is ribeye and NY style Pizza and grilled hot dogs. I keep going back and forth about the wings.
Hanzy: I'm a drumette guy Coco.
Coco: You always were a leg man Coco.
Hanzy: And I am partial to the filet, with bearnaise sauce, maybe some cherry sauce too, asparagus, steak frites, some good creamed spinach and a dark California Petti Syrah. I'll also take the Ceasar salad with anchovies of course.
    Coco: But of course.
Hanzy: And of course a NY slice- I like to get a walking slice when I am in the city. Just walk up to a counter, order a slice, fold it in half and eat it while I walk down Broadway.
    Coco: What about the coke?
Hanzy: No drink with the walking slice. You have to me a man sometimes.
Coco: Love the topic. Could talk about food all day. Maybe next week we will get a topic on sushi versus sashimi.
Hanzy: No raw fish for me.
Coco: And with that, we are out. Until next time, it's Hanzy and Coco saying be good , be nice, be loyal, be true.

  3. I love the Hanzy and Coco discussions on all issues about life and living well. Those two are just class acts. I saw them recently at The Forge with Anwar. Wasn’t Hanzy “Mr. Love 94” also?

  5. Good post Rump. Need your help. My GF - fed pd, ivy league college and law school, thinks her you know what doesn't stink- anyway we were talking and had too much wine and a gummie and she says Donald Segretti was the cause of Watergate and was behind most of the crimes. I tell her she is crazy and he is a lawyer in Califonnia and all he did was some work for CREEP.
    Can you settle this?

  6. Well you're sort of both correct. Segretti was part of the "USC Mafia" of lawyers working for Nixon starting with his 1962 run for Governor of California. Segretti was recruited for the 1968 campaign after he got out of the Military. He was part of the dirty-tricks campaign and the main force behind the Muskie Cannucks letter (look it up) as well as anonymous letters alleging sexual indiscretions by Scoop Jackson and Hubert Humphrey. In 72 Nixon feared Muskie more than McGovern. By knocking Muskie out of the democratic primaries, Segretti did his job.
Now here's where it gets interesting. He had little to do with Watergate, but did go to prison for 4 months but also still has his bar license in California and did actually run for judge in the mid 90's before withdrawing when his role in Watergate erupted into a huge campaign issue. He is a likeable and affable man who was recruited to do things he had no real desire to do. At USC he did some campaign shenanigans (they called it "rat-f'ing") and in All the Presidents Men there is a scene where Woodward meets with Deep Throat and asks about "Rat-fing" as he and Bernstein are running down Segretti's role and Deep Throat replies that "Rat-fing" goes all the way to top- implying that Nixon approved the dirty campaign tricks.
As far as I know he is in his 80's and still alive.

  7. One of my favorite quotes is from the Watergate era... "They were afraid, never having learned what I taught myself: Defeat the fear of death and welcome the death of fear."

  8. 1. Chicken wings: Wings. Duh, theres a reason they're called chicken wings.
    2. Steak: Ribeye. Good enough on it's own - no sauce needed; although a good marinade is approved. The filet is a close second.
    3. Pizza: New York. Classic. The Chicago is a good meal, but not pizza.
    4. Sub: The Philly wit wiz and oninons.
    5. Hot Dog: Nathan's with mustard. Tomato doesn't belong on a dog.
