The Herald went live with this story at about 9:45 pm:
One source with knowledge of the investigation said Grieco, a criminal defense attorney, will plead to one misdemeanor count of accepting a political donation disguised through a straw donor, a violation of state campaign finance law. As part of the plea deal, he will submit his resignation at City Hall on Tuesday morning before going to Miami-Dade criminal court. He will receive one year of probation during which time he will not be able to run for public office. Grieco will also pay the costs associated with the state attorney’s public corruption investigation.
Grieco, a former assistant state attorney, was investigated by the same office that once employed him. He resigned from the Miami-Dade state attorney’s office in 2006 after an ethical misstep — he was accused of using his position as the prosecutor on a high-profile case to promote his side job as a weekend nightclub disc jockey.
What does this mean for his Bar license? Doesn't he have to report tho to the Bar?
ReplyDeletegood thing he had all those cops at his press conference to make sure no one asked him any questions.
ReplyDeleteFormer ASA here.
ReplyDeleteI was a felony ASA when Grieco was in county court. The running joke was that his head was too big to fit through the courtroom doors. So when his poor judgment and bravado led to the DJ Esquire thing happening, it was no surprise. And now when his poor judgment and bravado lead to him being arrested and pleading to campaign fraud today, that will be no surprise either.
Does this mean the return of DJ Esquire?
ReplyDeleteHe is a good guy, will rebound and be fine down the road. I wish Mike the best.
ReplyDeletelooking at the clerks website, the arraignment is today. why not try for diversion. also, does this mean the return of DJ Esquire? I have been waiting a long time to see him warm up his mac book and press play.
ReplyDeleteaccording to a news article i read, the commish wrote a facebook page during Irma claiming he was in miami beach when in fact he was in orlando. did he lie just to lie? did he want to portray an image of toughness for riding out a storm. how bizarre. MB needs better representatives. getting fired from the sao, resigning in disgrace from an easy commissioner job. cant the city find a qualified person to fill this seat
ReplyDeleteSAO wouldn't go for diversion. They gave away the felony. The w/h is the same as conviction for Bar purposes and he will suffer there. Commissioner douchebag. Probably a spot for him in Trump admin.
ReplyDeleteWhy Grieco and not any of the other politicians in South Florida who do the same thing?
