WELCOME JUDGE CHARLES JOHNSON TO THE CIRCUIT COURT BENCH

THE CAPTAIN REPORTS:

CONGRATULATIONS GO OUT TO OUR NEWEST CIRCUIT COURT JUDGE .....

CHARLES "CHARLIE" JOHNSON

Today, from a list of six finalists, Governor Scott announced the appointment of County Court Judge Charles Johnson to the Circuit Court.  "Charlie" started as an ASA here in Miami-Dade County and worked in that office from 1989-2010.  He was then appointed to the County Court bench where he has served for the past five years.  Judge Johnson replaces outgoing Circuit Court Judge Victoria Sigler.

The other finalists were: Judge Wendell Graham, Judge Lourdes Simon, Judge Jason Dimitris, Ayana Harris, and John Wylie

Congrats Charlie, WELL DONE.

With Labor Day Weekend comes the traditional end of summer.  Enjoy your long, hot, three day weekend.  You can find us at the pool sipping bloody mary's in the am and mojitos in the pm.  And we'll be listening to one of our favorite songs of all time, performed by Rod Stewart, as he wrote about a summer fling, (the first time he had sex so he says), that ended with his return to school in September.

  1. Never thought I would find myself so strongly in agreement with this governor. I guess the broken clock theory might be at work. I don't know if this is good for Charly but I am damn sure it's good for everybody else.

  2. He will be a very good judge, top tier right off the bat.

  3. In other news Law Firm Administrator Certification professor at FIU Law Grace C. Lopez was let go from Carlton Fields Jorden Burke for allegedly having poor administration skills and chronic disregard for her duties. Karma is for real!

  4. Tried a case Against Charlie Johnson and David Sherman. He will be a true asset to the bench. Congrats Charlie! Well deserved.

  5. The only thing I can say positive about Governor Scott is that his Judicial selections for this county have been right on.

  6. This governor consistently gets his court appointments right. Couldn't think of anyone I would rather see on the circuit bench. Congrats.

  7. Stopped by Judge Tunis' court a couple times to watch the pro se white security guard, charged with shooting two unarmed black men while they sat in a car rolling a joint. Heard he fired 4 to 5 lawyers, before Bailey. She was constantly urging him, almost begging him to accept his attorney's advice, or at least let Abe sit next to him to whisper or write notes. Defendant wouldn't let Abe Bailey even sit at counsel table. Guilty on all counts. One dead & the other came to court testifying in a hospital bed; paralyzed from the waist down. Talk about dramatic. Saw the verdict read. Tunis asked if the defendant Kendlle wanted jurors polled. He said: no, I don't care. Judge told the clerk to poll jury anyway. Tough case, but have to give Judge Tunis credit; seems she went overboard to assure defendant understood.

  8. Kobe beef sliders at the REN a venue with small batch hand crafted vodka shots and college football on the big screens. I've had worse weekends.

  9. Glad that Mr/Ms 2:37 pm likes Judge Tunis. All I have ever heard her say it rude and condescending things to lawyers and litigants.

How many times can she start a sentence with..."I don't want to be rude but,...."

  10. Cap. You can't make this up. I got in my car to run an errand a few minutes ago, turned on the radio to 105.9 and what were they playing: Maggie May. That's pretty cool. Thanks for the memories of Maggie S. who was the cutest girl in junior high when I first heard this song.

  12. Really? An unsupported allegation of two judges engaging in adult related conduct and you expected it to be published? Does this look like the Herald to you? Or ATL?

  13. To Mr/Ms. 3:35 from Mr.2:37,

That's BS nonsense. She went way overboard for this def., from what I saw, she was practically begging him to accept his lawyer. Judge Tunis has grated me also, but in the end, she's one of the best, and certainly one of the most experienced, if not THE most experienced judges in criminal. She doesn't suffer fools well; you are right. You are right, partially. I've seen her use the: I don't mean to be rude statement, when a lawyer is unprepared. She does call on unprepared attorneys.

So do you want her.... With all her years of criminal trials (I've had two in front of her over say 8 years) or a judge that is clueless, or worse, just plain dumb &'not willing to try cases & doesn't know the law.

Frankly she gives great jury selection and knows the law. If she doesn't know, she says it. She's never rude;,she seems to hate mediocrity. She's smarter than many of the attys.

  14. Kinda feel bad of Wendall. It would have been nice to give him a term on the Circuit bench before he retires. That most probably was one of the reasons he did not get it. A little age discrimination here? Maybe not, but just saying . . . .

  15. Charlie was a fine choice for Circuit. He will do well. Hard to believe that a man actually got appointed. On another note, the word is the REN is about to get shut down by the Dade Health Dept for continued health issues concerning such 'minor' problems as rodent and vermin infestation. And that is never a joke. Directed to the part owner and investor who constantly posts here, please clean the place up. It will be money well spent.

  16. FU jealous dude. I was at the REN a venue last night. Joint was jumping crowd was rocking food was great. Where else in Miami are you going to get organic long Island duck breast with grilled fois gras in a wild Italian truffle glaze? And the hand crafted small batch vodka shots are the smoothest around. So go take your hater lies to Fridays or Benihana or Bennigans where you belong with your cheap ass palate.

  19. Was at the REN a venue last night. Bunch of Marlins and Mets were there after the game. Have to say the previous commentator was correct. Jammed. Great food. I had the pork shank. A ginormous hunk of meat cooked for hours if not days and then fried at the end with a cranberry wine reduction and some gluten free angel hair pasta in a garlic mushroom cream sauce.

  20. Dude I had the pork shank but chef Miguelito has this home made garlic Chile aioli with home made sirracha sauce. How do you even made your own sirracha sauce? And he infuses bits of a bee hive with honey in it. Simply amazing.

  25. Has anybody seen the ren? He talks about it like it's some famous place in Paris or something yet IN REALITY (where the rest of us live) it is in this shi**y little strip mall next to Wendy's on Sunset Drive in Kendall. PLEASE give us a break and give this a rest.
