RULE BRITANNIA
Very quietly, HRH Queen Elizabeth II, of whom we are a loyal subject, became Britain's longest serving monarch this past Wednesday at 5:30 PM, GMT, when she surpassed Queen Victoria, her great-great grandmother.
Walter Bagehot, the English Journalist observed that the monarch has three rights: the right to be consulted, the right to encourage, the right to warn. Would be our own judges take heed of such limited rights.

NOTICE
We saw this email the other day:

But then we thought that perhaps there is some use of a subpoena absent a deposition that would allow the attorney to speak with the witness without notice to the prosecution. The prosecution is allowed to investigate their case without notice to the defense, why wouldn't the defense have the same right? Just a thought. A COUPLE OF PREDICTIONS Your 2015 Miami Dolphins, featuring one of the top five players in the NFL in Ndamukong Suh, will be contenders for the division championship into December. The J…E…T…S are on the clock with the first pick in the 2016 NFL draft, having gone 1-15 in this season, followed by the Cleveland Browns who went 2-14. The Jets could also have the anti-perfect season and go 0-16. We love the Eagles, and they could be Super Bowl bound from the NFC. The AFC is wide open. Almost any team could get hot and make a run. Peyton Manning? We see a career ending injury this year. Steelers/Deflators? Under 50.5 looks nice. |

ReplyDeleteThe league of prosecutors, whatever that is, will be giving the prosecutor of the year award this year to Laura Adams from Sex Battery. Has anyone besides me dealt with her? She's no glowing star. In the past they give the award to ASA's who the Defense Bar respected. No so, this year.
Thursday, September 10, 2015 2:54:00 PM
Maybe the prosecutor of the year award was voted on by, guess what, prosecutors?
ReplyDelete2:54 p.m., I hope that the League of Prosecutors will have the good taste to conduct their awards ceremony at The REN (a venue) with a fine selection of food and drink and stimulating dance music.
ReplyDeleteLaura is very dedicated to her job. She deals with some of the worst offenders out there - sexual predators who prey on young children - so I understand her general disdain for accused people and the attorneys who represent them. She is not pleasant to deal with and can be vindictive. But, from a prosecutorial standpoint, she does go after sex predators, serial rapists, and child abusers. She's also been in that office for 20 years or so. As much as I do not like Laura Adams personally, I think she is deserving of the honor.
ReplyDeleteI find that Laura is a very honorable prosecutor
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me the defense can investigate their case in secret all they want, with no duty to disclose. However a subpoena is a court order and once the court is involved, the state has a right to be a part of the discussion.
ReplyDeleteDear Anonymous Commentator at 6:51 AM,
ReplyDeleteYou took the time out of your life to comment about Laura Adams. Here is how your comments comes off: a. you're losing the case against Adams; b. you lost the case and are pretty bitter about it; or c. your client did whatever they allege he did and couldn't afford a better lawyer so he questions you on everything.
Stop writing stupid comments and work harder. You know what Laura is doing right now? She's probably preparing her acceptance speech (while you're commenting about her).
Yours truly,
Fake Laura Adams (deserving of the prosecutor of the year award)
P.S. Who the fuck wakes up that early and thinks about Laura Adams? You need an exorcism.
Laura is just doing her job.
ReplyDeleteI recently had a case with Laura Adams. She took it all very personally. She was polite but, she acted like it was her own family member who was molested.
ReplyDeleteShe's not a prosecutor of the year in my book.
Rump
ReplyDeleteYou gotta stop putting FACDL list serve stuff on the fucking blog.
Laura Adams generally prosecutes people who are charged with raping or sexually abusing children, the most innocent and defenseless in our society. Her disdain for these crimes and for those who are accused of committing them should be a feeling that we all have as a society, especially because often those little lives are forever damaged far into adulthood. The consequences of these crimes leave a trail of sadness and destruction that is sometimes irreparable. If you do not believe that Ms. Adams is as kind as she should be to you who represents these men, perhaps you might start by being kinder to the child victim whom you repeatedly seek to make out to be a liar or to the little girl who daddy told her he "was making her a woman" or to the precious little baby step daddy found so attractive. Perhaps if there were more people like Ms. Adams looking out for our children, the sexual abuse and rape of these tiny defenseless beings would not be such a common occurrence. I am personally grateful if Ms. Adams prosecutes these cases as if they were her family member and I can assure you that if your little precious child were sexually abused you would want Ms. Adams sitting at counsel table representing the State. It's easy to hurl insults sitting behind an "anonymous" post. However, please know that what you reap you will eventually sow in some form or another. Perhaps it will be your son or daughter on the receiving end of anonymous insults or posts and you will then understand that it is unkind and completely unnecessary. We have to do better and Ms. Adams deserves to be applauded for her advocacy of these children, not criticized. Thank you Laura.
ReplyDeleteI have no problem with Laura Adams but, she's gotten a bad rep with many defense lawyers for being so aggressive.
ReplyDeleteI had a case supervised by Ms. Adams. Client was innocent. He passed my polygraph and theirs. It was a L and L with just a 10 year old saying uncle touched me between the legs. No bruises and no physical evidence. Father of child forced the child to make it up. The father of the child had a long grudge with client. Father had long history of domestic and other crimes. Story didn't add up. Client waived Miranda and said they made it up. Client over 60 with no prior arrests. No controlled calls. No evidence and the kid was overheard by a relative being coached to lie.
ReplyDeleteAll angles showed client was honest. Phone records verified what client said. Nothing verified what the kid said.
At bond hearing, I allowed ASA to question client in full and they only asked a few questions.
I asked the detective to allow my side to make controlled calls to flush out the truth. Laura Adams told the cop not to do it and said that the state had no duty to help show innocence.
Plea offer: House arrest and probation. Client took it over my advice. Client was told over and over in jail that if he didn't take the deal, he would do 40 years. Client was more worried about being home to take care of his wife who had cancer.
Thanks Laura, now an innocent man is a convicted felon.
Laura, you are no prosecutor of the year in my book.
It's possible to be a zealous advocate without being a total jerk
ReplyDeleteI nominate Michael Von Zamfpt as next year's prosecutor of the year.
ReplyDeleteI know all you whiners out there want Asa 's to just not give a fuck and do what you want.
ReplyDeleteThankfully for this community there are a few people like Laura who do give a fuck and want to put predators in prison
TIRED OF ALL YOU WHINGEY DEFENSE LAWYERS
Laura Afams absolutely deserves this award. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just lashing out after what was probably a very embarrassing loss to Ms Adams. For example, 8:39am, I know your case. Didn't both Judge Luck and Judge Sayfie find PEPG? Sounds like your sex offender client manipulated you too...
ReplyDeleteLaura Adams absolutely deserves this award. Anyone who voices otherwise is clearly lashing out because they lost (or are losing) a case to her. As for 8:39am, didn't both Judge Luck and Judge Sayfie find proof evident/presumption great in that case? Maybe your sex offender client has successfully manipulated you into believing his outlandish story. Stop whining and be happy that our community has someone of the caliber of Ms. Adams fighting for our most vulnerable victims.
ReplyDeleteTo you 4: 52pm I say this. We are all tired of lawyers on either side who whine too much but, are we not supposed to all be in the business of truth and justice? I've had dealings with Laura and they weren't all that bad but, shame on her if she refused to allow a defendant to show his innocence by allowing controlled calls. If that's true, that's disgusting.

Pretty sure the smear campaign against Adams on this blog was set up by Mikey Catalano. Hes having a meltdown because the state attorney wont take Adams off one of his cases. Hey Mike, if you cant play in the big leagues, go back to Kounty Kourt.
ReplyDeleteI thought Catalano only practiced on kounty kourt
ReplyDeleteLaura God bless you if you pissed off catalano
Catalano is spiteful and can't defend serious cases. If Laura is taking him on, it is a near-certainty that he will try to attack her personally, because he can't beat her in the courtroom.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Laura Adams reads this blog.
ReplyDeleteYou pick on Catalano but, I ask you this, how many big, really big felonies have you handled?
ReplyDelete1005 more in the last year than you and catalano ever have

ReplyDeleteState Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle:
"I am extremely proud to announce that the Daily Business Review has accepted my nomination of Laura Adams for their “Women in Law” 2015 Award. Please join me in congratulating Laura on this prestigious honor that is bestowed annually to highly respected and experienced judges, attorneys, and other public servants.
Laura has been a rising star since she began her career with our office 21 years ago. She started out in county court, where her skills in handling DUI cases quickly earned her a promotion to Chief of the Criminal Traffic Division. Laura was then promoted to the Felony Division and in just a few short years, was selected to become a Felony Division Chief. During her time as a Felony Division Chief, Laura supervised junior felony lawyers and tried approximately 20 homicide cases, earning guilty verdicts in each of those trials.
Later in her career, one of the most notable cases Laura was involved in was the case of Ana Maria Angel, who along with her boyfriend, was kidnapped from South Beach by 5 men, then robbed, raped and ultimately murdered. All 5 defendants were convicted for their role in the crimes, with the actual killer being sentenced to death.
After about 7 years as a Division Chief, Laura chose to transfer to the Sexual Battery and Child Abuse Unit, where she has prosecuted several high-profile serial rapist cases such as the Shenandoah Rapist, the Palmetto Bay Rapist, the North Dade Rapist and the Little Gables Rapist. They were all convicted after trial, and sentenced to multiple terms of life in prison. For the past 8 years, Laura has chosen to remain the Chief of the Sexual Battery and Child Abuse Unit, where she oversees the prosecution of those who commit acts of physical or sexual abuse against the most vulnerable of victims: children. In her most recent trial, Laura prosecuted a man who repeatedly raped his stepdaughter. That offender was sentenced to 485 years in state prison.
Laura has also been instrumental in providing training to police departments and child welfare agencies to ensure that these types of cases are properly investigated. In addition to her responsibilities in the Sexual Battery/Child Abuse Unit, Laura has remained active in handling cases involving traffic homicides, murders and police shootings.
As a result of Laura’s commitment and dedication, I have also nominated her for previous awards, all of which she has deservingly won. In 2001, Laura received the Bill Schurr Award, and in 2008, she received the L.E.O. Award for “Prosecutor of the Year.” Last year, Mother Against Drunk Driving (MADD) recognized Laura with the David I. Gilbert Prosecutor Recognition of Excellence Award, named after our very own Unit Chief of the Traffic Fatality Unit.
Congratulations Laura for your exemplary service to our community!"
